Aegon I Targaryen with Balerion (he was hatched before 114 BC and flew with the other five Targaryen dragons who moved from Valyria, so it's unlikely that Aegon was his first rider. Also in HOTD, Balerion’s first rider was Daenys the Dreamer, and while most of what they did in the series doesn't make sense, this is actually plausible)

Visenya Targaryen with Vhagar? (Vhagar hatched in 52 BC, and Visenya was born in 29 BC, and we don’t know when she claimed her. So if we say that Visenya claimed at the earliest possible time (right after birth), Vhagar would have been 23 years at the time, which means that she could have had a former rider)

House of the Dragon s3: A bigger mess.

House of the Dragon's FYC event of 2025 had some interesting stuff, I will talk about here quickly:

George was not present again. If you know, for s1 Martin was present, but for S2 he it wasn't, and now for S3 again, he was not present. Take that as you will. But it tells me that the long dispute with Ryan is not over.

The writing is almost over and, and they will star recording in a some week.

There are new big characters in S3. In Condon words basically 25% of the cast is going to be new.

Regarding Rhaenyra in action scenes, here what Emma Darcy said: " I got what I wanted, folks"....if this doesn't open a can of worms in itself. Get ready for warrior Rhaenyra guys. 😭

There will be four of the biggest Dance events that will be adapted this season. My guess, we are getting, First Battle of Tumbleton, Battle of the Gullet, Fall of King's Landing, and maybe, Battle of the Honeywine.

There will be an episode in S3 that seems completely based nothing on the book, a conceptual episode. What means basically they are breaking the formula of the show, and how the episodes are structured, and will be very character driven. There is nothing more narcissistic than a fucking conceptual episode. Nothing screams more pretentious writing than this. Said that, what this probably means we are going to follow one character for the whole episode. And if is Rhaenyra or Alicent, I will just need to be on acids to watch this mess.

I don't want to talk about it, but, I think it must be said that, Emma and Olivia lines about rh@enicest, may or may not confirm that they shifted Alicent and Nettles stories. And Alicent will be the tool that will cause conflict between Daemon and Rhaenyra.

Anyway. S3 looks like will be a bigger mess than I was even expecting, if this are a sig of anything. To much characters to much going on. And not properly development.

See and that reply was just to start an argument because that wasn't my point. Ryan said it was "accurate" to the lore. Don't say "I want to remain faithful to it and respect it" when it's very clear to a lot of book readers that he doesn't care what George has written to be factual.

What got me though was how Ryan stated no one could tell what happened up there but it was well documented. I'm sorry... He's contradicting himself. Not to mention Vhagar is fucking massive, her wingspan is 150 meters and she's 90 meters long. Meleys was described to be as bright as copper, and while Sunfyre is the smallest of the three he has gleaming gold scales. I'm sure it's easy to fucking tell which dragon is spewing fire from its mouth.

"The dragons met violently in the air, a thousand feet above the field, with their fireballs bursting as bright as the sun. Meleys managed to close her jaw around Sunfyre's neck, just as Vhagar fell upon them."

It's clear to me that Vhagar had at some point separated from the two after they met in the air and then divebombed from above. Causing all three to hit the ground so hard that stones fell from battlements of Rook's Rest.

Yes, nothing says feminism quite like taking away a massive military accomplishment made by a female character and giving it to a male character just because you wanted to speedrun his villain arc.

Also, in asoiaf, the dragon flames are the same color as the dragon. For example, Sunfyre’s flames were golden because his scales were golden, and Tessarion’s flames were cobalt blue because her wings were dark cobalt.

Granted, they don’t specifically say what colors Meleys and Vhagar’s flames were; however, they do say that Meleys was scarlet, pink, and copper, and according to GRRM’s team Vhagar was “bronze with greenish blue highlights and bright green eyes”. So, presumably, Sunfyre, Meleys, and Vhagar’s flames looked different enough that it shouldn't have been too difficult to distinguish them.

There is also never any indication that Aemond ever betrayed Aegon, even though he is one of the more villainized characters. So I do think it's pretty safe to say that at the very least Aemond didn't try to kill Aegon in the book.

If Jace and Luke were aware of rumors about whether Laenor was really their father, then they were certainly also aware of the rumors surrounding Rhaenyra and Daemon's alleged involvement in Laenor's death to marry each other. The family drama alone would have been intense enough without the dragons! They not only had to deal with being questioned about their legitimacy but also faced the painful possibility that their mother might have been involved in their father's death...the uncertainty, the personal loss, the betrayal!!!!

Team Black should have some drama going on just like Team Green.

These boys and Daemon's daughters... all four betrothed and knowing their parents are married and that they married each other immediately after Laena died and Laenor was killed and everyone knows they killed him in order to marry each other...

They should feel some type of way about that! There was a lot of juicy stuff they could have done with this.

Imagine you're enjoying a morning tea on the terrace looking down at your city. boy doesnt it look pretty this morning ! Maybe for the first time in years you'll go visit - so you toodle off to the stairs. You get 4 flights down, and wow you're huffing and puffing, after all you're no spring chicken anymore, and then !!!!! and THEN you realise you have 1122 steps left to go. Suddenly the citys looking less appealing isnt it

And you're probably going to have to walk all the way up again. Also, because of the amount of time it'll take to walk both up and down you're not going to be able to spend much time in the city.

I feel like it shouldn't need to be said, but a relatively faithful adaptation of the source material is actually a very normal and reasonable thing for both an author and that author's fanbase to want. People can sneer about book purists all they want but it's the rare adaptation that surpasses the original, and HotD does not even come close.

And if there have to be some changes (for legitimate reasons), they should make sure that it's at least decent and fits into the story.

This is the last time I’m gonna talk about this topic, mostly because it’s hiatus era and I would like to be able to write fics without outrightly bashing s2 Alicent, but I do think it needs to be said.

There’s nothing defendable in what Alicent did when she gave up her entire family on a silver platter for Rhaenyra.

So many takes about how we—the ones who found that scene abominable and abhorrent—misread the scene, or purposefully misinterpreted just to hate her; that what Alicent did was a good thing because it would have spared her entire family if only she let Aegon die. Giving up Criston and Gwayne’s location to be slaughtered (in what is most likely going to be Butcher’s Ball) wasn’t the intention; Alicent would never do that to her family and this was the only way to ensure survival en yada yada yada.

Yet the only person she said anything about saving was Helaena and Jaehaera, the latter of which is still continued to be dehumanized by no one referring to her as anything but ‘child’. Alicent put no thought towards Daeron—her innocent 16 year old son, who has done nothing—who was now joining a war that she started by declaring his brother king. Daeron, who’s flying alongside the Hightower army, in a war that will not end just because the Dowager Queen decided enough was enough. Who might die, and actually will die, before he ever sees his family again.

And even if she believes Rhaenyra executing Aegon would end the war (which it won’t), what made s2 Alicent think that the deaths would stop there?

A son for a son? Rhaenyra didn’t even remember that Jaehaerys had already been murdered for Luke. What made Alicent think that Rhaenyra would spare fucking Aemond of all people??? Aemond, who killed Luke and Rhaenys, who’s now Prince Regent because Aegon’s heir is dead? Who rides Vhagar, and would rather burn the world down than cleave to Rhaenyra? Who’s committed the majority of the crimes that make up Team Green? No, Aemond will have to die.

Daeron will have to die.

Jaehaerys, had he lived, would have to die anyway.

Maelor if he existed too.

Otto, Criston, Gwayne—all dead by virtue of being active participants and commanders in TG.

The only way Rhaenyra can claim that throne and ensure she can hold it is by eliminating the rival claimants, down to the youngest son.

That was something s1 Alicent knew, had raised her son on the belief they would die if their sister ascended, before the writers butchered her to a million pieces and left a caricature in her place. The claims go down son to son before it reaches daughters, which meant killing Aegon wouldn’t stop Rhaenyra’s troubles. She’d have to go after his sons and brothers too before the throne is legally hers.

There is no version of this story, where war has already started and a king crowned, that would end with little bloodshed beyond the death of said king.

In a different world, an argument could be made to spare some of them. If Rhaenyra had ascended untouched, then perhaps deals could’ve been made. Aegon would still have to die, I’d imagine. Take the Black at minimum, with Jaehaerys following in his footsteps as an adult or perhaps the Citadel. As long as Aegon’s line persisted, there would always be a chance of rebellion happening once Jace becomes king. So that whole line would have to be removed.

Aemond and Daeron would be less dangerous, but there would be little chance they’d be spared. The Black for Aemond, because I can’t see him agreeing to be a Kingsguard. Daeron would go to the Citadel without question. Jaehaera would either be married into the main line via Aegon III like in canon, or Rhaenyra would arrange for her to marry Jace to solidify his claim. He’d have a better claim through Jaehaera than Baela, after all.

And even then, that was still best case scenario. Worst case they’re all executed to protect Jace. Because Rhaenyra’s reign might somehow be mediocre and peaceful (really she has no makings of a great queen), but Jace’s will be a landmine. Between two legitimate brothers and no sisters to marry them to and trueborn cousins and uncles, Jace’s ascension was going to be a massive clusterfuck that would make the Dance look like a play.

Alicent really would get her wish to die 'unremarked' since she'd be killing her entire family effectively.

You know who won't die unremarked? All those men-at-arms and levies who were called up and died fighting for the cause she championed, many if them now dying because of her betrayal. Their families WILL live most likely and will carry that pain, anguish and sense of betrayal or abandonment for the rest of their lives.

This would not be peace at all, if anything it would wind-up like the aftermath of the 4th Dornish War and the Blackfyre Rebellion. Further bloodshed would be all but guaranteed.

Also, Alicent, Helaena, and Jaehaera would never actually have been free. They would spend the rest of their lives as hostages, and at the very least Jaehaera (who has a better claim than Rhaenyra according to Andal law) would have been married off to one of Rhaenyra’s sons. It's also possible that Helaena and Alicent might have been married off too (the Widow’s Law wouldn't have been enough to protect them because Team Black would have had enough political power to bypass it and the ability to threaten them into pretending that they consented), but that’s more uncertain and depends much more on the political landscape.

If the writers wanted Alicent to abandon everyone else, they could have had her grab Helaena and Jaehaera and run away. Instead, they had to make her character assassination even worse by having her betray her entire faction (which includes all of her male family members, including her 3 sons, her brother, and her lover) and their allies in exchange for her daughter, granddaughter, and herself living under glorified house arrest for the rest of their lives (which she also somehow doesn't even seem to realize).

I dont understand team blacks insistence that the greens killed her daughter. Yes the two gut punches of Rhsenyras father being dead and Aegon being crowned triggered her into an early birth, but she was very clearly far along already, and that child didnt come out premature then die later in the same way Baelon did. It was a still birth. Still births dont happen at birth it happens before that and the mother tragically in those days would never know it.

She had 3 healthy children with Harwin, then 2 children with her uncle. And unfortunately, when Targaryean women have children multiple times with men in their own family, miscarriages and stillborns are not uncommon.

It's horrible, but her daughter not making it was not the greens fault, it was a tragedy that has happened to many women in Rhaenyras family including her mother.

Like her daughter not making it obviously effected her even more considering how close it was with Lucerys's death, but I don't grasp why they call her death murder and that it's the greens fault.

Its nothing short of a miracle for Rhaenyra that she had 5 healthy children up to that point with little complications. I get why Rhaenyra blames them in her grief, but I don't get why team black fans blame them when we should have the objective knowledge to know better.

I agree. The fact Rhaenyra had as many healthy kids as she did for the tine period is incredible! But things happen, especially in that time, and it’s no one’s fault

I feel like the reason they blame the Greens is purely because Rhaenyra says they killed her daughter, even though we are supposed to see this as delusional. Black fans really do just agree with whatever she says and not think deeper (unless thinking deeper means that you claim that everything in the book is Maester/green propaganda)

Obviously it is tragic, but considering Visenya’s condition when she was born, there is no way she would have survived even if she had been born later.

This is how Fire & Blood describes her:

"a stillborn girl, twisted and malformed, with a hole in her chest where her heart should have been and a stubby, scaled tail."

To be fair, the account does come from Mushroom, which means that we should take it with a grain of salt. However, we do know that Targaryens sometimes have stillborn babies who are part dragon (for example, all 3 of Maegor the Cruel’s children, probably book Laena and Daemon’s youngest child, and Daenerys and Khal Drogo’s child). So, a part dragon stillborn is definitely plausible.

Now, considering that description, I think it's pretty safe to conclude that there is no way Visenya could have survived even if she hadn't been born too prematurely (actually her being born early might have saved Rhaenyra because she would have been smaller than if she had been carried to term), because a human being cannot survive without a heart. And chances are that at least some other vital parts of her body were also affected by this.

It’s also easy to conclude that the greens aren't actually responsible because the only way they could have been responsible is if they had poisoned Rhaenyra early in her pregnancy, which there is no evidence for (I dont think that irrational and groundless accusations made during a traumatic event counts evidence) and wouldn't make any sense considering that if they were going to poison her, they would have done it when she was pregnant with Jace (her first child and heir) and/or Aegon (her first child with Daemon), not Visenya (her sixth child overall and third with Daemon). At most, someone might be able to argue that the greens were responsible for the timing, but even that is a bit of a stretch.

I’m pretty sure that there isn't a hole in the chest; however, there is no way that none of her organs and/or any of her other vital body parts weren't severely impacted by this, which would most likely make it impossible for her to survive even with modern medicine.
