I offer this as nothing more or less than personal testimony, but the single best inoculation I've found against the doomerpill is Ecclesiastes. Not because it's a feel good book or offers any particular comfort or assurances, if anything it does the opposite. But getting told "nothing matters, the world is corrupt and full of injustice, worldly pleasure is fleeting, humans are idiots who never learn (myself included), and the future is uncertain and frightening; now dust yourself off, appreciate your life and its simple pleasures, fear God, and try to live as rightly as you can" by a guy who lived 2000-odd years ago really beats you over the head with a sense of perspective. The troubles of our time are not exceptional. There is nothing new under the sun.
