Mom and Dad were adventurers, their parents before them were adventurers, and theirs before them. I’ll be damned if I don’t pick up the sword and time as well, lest I have nothing to share at the family gatherings.

This makes me want to play as an adventurer whose family trains every child to be some kind of adventurer from birth, be it wizard, fighter, or rogue; the child picks. But then, when they turn 18, there’s a big “coming of age” party where everyone gives them theeir adventurer’s pack, and kicks them out of the house. They aren’t allowed back home until they find their soul mate.

Mom and dad met running from a tribe of cannibals & ended up overthrowing a demagogue or two before settling down back on the family farm. Gramma Becky met Grandpa Frank at a cleric temple after a dungeon raid went awry; they still give group tours to the foothills of the site. Aunt Myrtle and Aunt Jean are still under siege in that ruined dwarven fortress against the giants, but to be fair, it had been under siege for a year before they go there, and they figured the giants provided sufficient cover against inquiries about “settling down. Uncle Bob decided his greatsword WAS his soulmate, but that might be why they make him sit at the kid’s table at the Winter Solstice festival each year.

No sad backstory? Pffft, easy peasy!

Ailleth, lived with her mom in the woods ‘till mom sadly died in a bad encounter with a bear. She wasn’t even angry with the bear, it was clearly mom’s mistake. It’s sad, but it happens. Also, dad is not dead, dad has never met his daughter, so yeah. Still counts!

Alia Levanter, given by her mom to a travelling bard cause she had too many children and was afraid she’d die of hunger and illness. Alia recovered, was pretty angry at first (she was a child), then she understood her mom. Now she reconnected with her parents and shitload of sisters (she has, like, ten). Also she’s married and with kids (one adopted). The only angst here is that her husband’s a Paladin and she’s CG (just kidding, no angst).

Aran I’tidal, NE. Has living parents, hopes to have them dead soon. Also her brother. Also most of her family, actually. Still a cheerful character, somehow.

Brandy Courvoisier, has very alive parents, tries to stay away from them as much as possible. She loves them from a distance. They’re pretty nosy and she likes privacy.

Eluedin, White Necromancer. Was born from the Pale Tree (she’s a sylvari), so no parents at all, technically. Has no memory of her Dream. Still very happy about everything in the world. Fascinated by death, always takes time to bury dead animals and tell them they were very nice.

Mackenzie Allen, both parents alive. Had an encounter with a demon feeding from children’s fears as a child, decided to become a Hunter so no kids will feel this scared again. Not angry with her parents because it's not their fault. Like, they couldn't even see it.
