I'm planning to write a fanfic, some post-canon (or maybe pre-canon idk) found family stuff (mostly focused on Eggs, Winnie, Herbert, and the boxtrolls themselves). Maybe, you have any ideas on what you'd like to see in a fanfic like that? As in, plot ideas maybe?

That's funny because I'm making a fanfic myself, an au specifically, I've also did stuff for something similar to your idea

I'd say Herbert seeing his wife again would be interesting and heartwarming, Winnie having an older brother/sister? They're more like side plots :p

I've been debating over what to do with Herbert's wife for a while now. All the information the movie gives us about her is basically nothing, so It's up to our own interpretation, I guess. But, as far as I see, It's heavily implied that she passed away? I don't know, really. If Herbert and his wife were divorced, or just separated after he "died", wouldn't she look for Eggs? Wouldn't she know that the boxtrolls aren't the monsters Snatcher paints them out to be? She would. So even if she's alive, she's probably not even in Cheesebridge anymore. In the movie It seems like the only family Herbert has left is Eggs (and the boxtrolls, of course). So, If I don't get any ideas on this, as sad as it is, I'll probably be sticking to the most common interpretation that she passed away. But, I'll be definitely writing about Herbert and Eggs' life after the reunion, I feel like this deserves a lot more attention from the fandom than it gets, really 🥹

It sounds funny, because she's more of an older sibling to Eggs herself. But the idea that she's just mimicking that behaviour because she has her own older sibling is actually a very realistic thing. Also, getting back to talking about single dads, the character I do in fact headcanon as divorced is Lord Portley-Rind. He and his wife barely interact throughout the entire movie, and It took me a while to realise that Winnie even had a mom before I rewatched it. Um...Portley-Rind is basically raising that kid alone? I've heard people say that he and his wife are in a lavender marriage (wich, fair enough) but I'd say they don't even look like they're in a marriage in the first place. So, yes, divorced. Winnie's sibling could be living with her mother and visit them from time to time throughout the story. This seems like a cool concept, I'll try writing something with it, thanks!!

As for what I will definitely be writing. I will make a pre-canon fanfic about how Herbert met the boxtrolls, because WHY, ONCE AGAIN, DOESN'T THE FANDOM TALK ABOUT THIS?? They were probably stealing his stuff for a while since he's the inventor who has more trinkets, gears and other tinkering stuff than anyone in this town. And he just...sort of adopted them, in a "I guess theese silly guys are mine now" kind of way. LIKE??? 🥹

And also, I NEED to make a fanfic of Winnie integrating the boxtrolls (along with Eggs, he'll have his own role there) into society. Do I need to add anything or is this self-explanatory? 🙃

this little facial expression from Alberto has definitely got to be one of my favorites because not only is this one of his only “soft” faces that is directed specifically at Giulia, but it’s from the middle of his jealousy arc.
