Dany in Qarth
There is something very poetic about Lyanna's (supposed) last wish to Ned being that he doesn't raise Jon to know about the prophecies and letting him choose his own fate.... and then Jon proceeding to ignore and dismiss every magical thing and prophecy that comes his way.... honouring his mothers wishes and he doesn't even know it

âWhen he spooned an extra portion onto Jon's plate and gave him the crusty heel of the bread, he knew what it meant. He knows. He looked around the hall, saw heads turn quickly, eyes politely averted. They all know.â

the overwhelming feeling Iâve had watching HOTD is of a show that doesnât really want to exist but feels like it has a duty to tell the story itâs telling. but when u watch it ur like. the story isnât even good. like everything is so desperately serious and earnest and LABOURED yet absolutely nothing lands with me. itâs like listening to a deadly boring relative at a party explain the trials of their youth hoping itâll teach u something but they get lost somewhere in the telling and ur like hang on i zoned out for a second what was the point of this story again

I bet GRRM thought HOTD was going to be his redemption arc. After the entire series of Game of Thrones was ruined to point the rewatch is almost impossible and it faded quickly as if it wasnât a phenomenon for the 2010s and is the measurement of how to ruin one of the top franchises in media history âhe probably thought he could have least one complete series that was good enough to be his legacy since he is struggling to finish the book. He seem to have âgardenedâ himself into the corner with the book and now heâs running out of time and now he realizes this maybe his legacy (and it will be if he doesnât get a posthumous person to finish it if he doesnât) . And since fire and blood is a complete book, it didnât have the excuse of being unfinished and he prob thought after the backlash that was GoT no way hbo would fuck it up (donât tell me itâs a history book, Iâve read fan fictions better than what we saw and they followed the book)! Ha!
And thatâs why he may actually speak up about them fucking up because the show is too far gone now.
Edit: wrote this in 2024 and later he did speak up.. and he's vaguely speaking up again... Holy moly who know it would get event worse

"it's a history book so it's biased blah blah"
Okay but, as a professional historian, history is a bunch of competing narratives, sure, but some of those are still vastly more likely than others, and even though pure historical truth is forever out of our reach, your job is still to take a stance and, crucially, defend it. With evidence. And logic. Some sources are more reliable than others. And some events simply cannot be argued with due to their very public nature. So when F&B gives us different versions of a story, it's up to the writers to determine the most likely one based on the reliability of the sources and the inworld logic, not just pick the one they think would look "coolest". And that still leaves the instances where what F&B says is simply what happened, without a shadow of a doubt. Those things should not be changed. And any changes they DO make should make sense within the established rules of the universe.
Examples:
Aemond and Vhagar killing Lucerys by accident? Perfectly acceptable. We only know the outcome, we were not there in the sky with them, so it very well could have happened.
But Daemon being the one to kill Vaemond with no input from Rhaenyra? Simply not canon, because Rhaenyra feeding him to Syrax was a matter of public record at the time that no maester could conceivably later erase without a bunch of people going "wait, my dad was there when the Velaryons came to court to demand justice for it". Therefore, the show should not have changed that simply to make Rhaenyra more palatable.
Criston beating Joffrey to death instead of killing him in a tourney? Defies in universe logic, because a Kingsguard breaking guest right and committing murder during a wedding would have been executed.
Alicent the deeply religious woman kinslaying her way across a warn torn continent? Give me a break!
Yeah. I donât buy the Aemond and Alicent scene defenses for a SECOND.
âOh itâs a natural character progressionâ I donât care. There are better, more creative, and less sexually repulsive ways to signify a character has deep insecurity with their status as a second son in a medieval world and with their status in their relationship with their mother.
This all ties back into the whole sexual punishment thing that the writers have been doing to team green since the beginning. Theyâve been placing Alicent in constant noncon situations. Making Criston an âincelâ (though I still heavily disagree with the characterization). Making Alicent and Criston somehow partially to blame for blood and cheese because they had consensual relations. Having Aegon talk about how his nethers have been mutilated. And now having Aemond be a contributor to the constant sexual punishment the writers wish to inflict on Alicent and giving him a weird dream about her.
And what purpose do these scenes even have that couldnât be done by simply giving Alys and Aemond more scenes and character depth? Alys can function as a proxy for Alicent just as easily as inventing Alicent appearing somehow to try to kill him (which is another topic that is so obscene because literally who even is this woman? Season 1 Alicent would never). Instead of playing this weird sexual degrading game they impose on the Team Green characters they could simply show Aemondâs deep rooted insecurity in his place as a second son and his craving tenderness from a maternal figure through Alys.
Iâm not saying that the traits theyâre conveying arenât consistent or donât make sense for the character. But what I am saying is that the way in which the writers are choosing to delve into it is suspicious as hell. They donât care to delve into the interesting character subconscious theyâve created. They donât care to expand upon the natural character progression of the character. They just want to shove shocking sexual scenes into our faces and obviously that can only be done to team green. Because sexual empowerment belongs to Rhaenyra alone.
#feminism or whatever.
