A mature person loves and trusts God. He has walked enough with God to know that he can totally rely on him. He honours God by obeying him, even although he may not understand why he is doing this. He is at peace, regardless of situations, and he has that joy which comes with dwelling in his presence. He bears much fruit which lasts, as he is aware that he is in partnership with God in which his church is being built. He understands that he has his part to play, the planting or watering of seeds, and that God will take it on from there. He loves change, and recognises frequently that his bad habits are disappearing and that his giftings are understood and well-practiced. Loving our heavenly dad. Drawing real close to our own dad is / should be a natural reaction. After all, our own dad should love us and care for us, however imperfectly that may be. Relating these qualities to our heavenly dad, Father God, is sometimes missing. Be reassured that God’s love is unconditional: it does not depend on how good we’ve been. He loves us because that is what he does. His love is eternal. God will sustain you. In the act of creation, God made everything that you can see. But it didn’t stop there! If you fail to maintain your car, you will quickly discover that it starts to malfunction. The same is true for creation. God’s faithfulness means that you never have to worry that the sun won’t come up in the morning. He gave us everything that we have, and He meets our needs. One of our greatest needs is acceptance within a loving relationship. Being Christ’s friend. As a friend, you share confidences, and through this sharing, we come to know each other intimately, regardless of what faults we may have. Enjoying each other follows, leading to Christlike love for each other. A friend has your best interests at heart, stands by you in your lowest moments, and even sacrifices himself to meet your need. They are committed to you, devoting their time and energies to you. We draw near to each other. However, Jesus says “You are my friends if you do what I command.” So, disobeying God means you are endangering your friendship. Obeying God leads to you bearing much fruit, since you are reaching out to others with God’s love. Be totally honest with God, walk in the light accompanied by the Holy Spirit, and remember to unburden yourself before Him. Be real. What is sin? To sin is to miss the mark. Instead of hitting the bulls eye, we miss the target altogether. With reference to our relationship with God, it means that we fail to recognise, love or follow him. Instead, we run our own life, making our own decisions without consulting him. We reject God, ignore his commands and fail to listen to his godly wisdom. Ultimately, we suffer from this severed relationship. God wants to help us to lead truly amazing lives, having all that we need and following his good plan for our lives. Feeling loved and accepted. Everybody needs this. The only problem is that people so often let you down, even those closest to you. Enjoying God. True enjoyment comes through having a real relationship with God. Getting to know him takes time and commitment, but the rewards are worth it. What being “Born again” means. Everyone sins, and this sin separates us from having a relationship with God. We all need a Saviour to save us from these sins. God loves us dearly and doesn’t want anyone to have eternal separation from himself. So He sent Jesus to save us. Jesus died on the cross and took all of our sins upon himself, so that when we come to Jesus and accept him as our Lord and Saviour, we are given forgiveness from our sins, and come into relationship with God. Being “born again” is a process which is initiated by the Holy Spirit, where He prompts and tries to persuade us to put our faith in Christ and live a new life consecrated to himself. Christians are often involved in this process, where we witness to the kindness of God, and what He did for us through Jesus, His Son. When we come to believe in Jesus, accepting him into our life, we are spiritually changed through the power of God. We move from being disconnected from God to having a personal relationship with him. In fact, we are given the Holy Spirit to come and live inside of us. He helps us to live a new, victorious life, since the power of sin is broken in our lives. We have the right to become children of God. Sin breaks up relationships. God gave the Ten Commandments not to squash us with rules, but to help us steer a good path through life. Jesus summed up the law by saying that we are to love both God and all people. God always seeks an intimate relationship with us. It is for his pleasure that we were created. The spiritual gift of wisdom. Although, as a believer, we can ask God for wisdom and He promises to give us it, there is also a Holy Spirit gift of wisdom. It may be used to understand divine revelation. God’s wisdom uses knowledge to advance God’s kingdom. It can be used to enable you to speak to authorities and in defending your faith. It is useful also in problem solving and speaking with unbelievers.
