"Modern" Dead Poets Society Headcannons pt. 3
*TW* attempted suicide (You've been warned)
Some of these headcannons are gonna have some angst to them. (No Neil dying or Meeks dying, Neil still attempts, but fails).
One of the only photos he has of his younger self is one the neighbors took of him. It's was him in kindergarten, playing with the neighbors many dogs in the yard. He loved them more than people.
For the entirety of college and his senior year at Welton, his birthday present from his parents was another desk set each year. They never asked if he got it and they never gave him even a card, just the desk set.
He and Neil found fun ways to destroy them, they once burned that years desk set, and made smore over it with the other Poets.
Had nightmares for the longest time that he'd wake up and Neil would have succeeded the night of the play.
Neil was there to comfort and cuddle with him afterwards. When he would finally fall asleep on Neil's arms, Neil would kiss the edge of his nose to watch him scrunch it up.
Loves helping people, volunteers with seniors and does activities with them. Learned how to knit and crotchet, so he could make Todd a scarf.
Didn't plan for making it past 18, he swore he'd be dead be either his own hand or his fathers.
Knows exactly what everyone wants for their birthdays. Plans it perfectly and is the go to party planner for any and every party the Poets want.
His last thought before attempting was hoping Todd would be okay. When he woke up, his first thought was also "is Todd okay?".
Took a long time, but he is way more honest with his emotions to the Poets. He used to hide them or go to who he thought he wasn't closest to. Turns out they all cared about him so much.
Has performed in drag for the other Poets. Todd was surprisingly the loudest, laughing and cheering for him the most.
He gets prickly with people if they push enough of his buttons and did so with old friends. He wanted to make them leave because he was terrified they would leave on their own.
Will do anything in his power to not lose a bet, Including studying and cheating.
Ignored his emotions trying to make sure everyone else was okay, while Neil was in the hospital. Broke down and completely trashed his side of the shared dorm.
Has told multiple different "backstories" for how he befriended Neil, Neil has only told Todd the truth where as everyone else doesn't know. They met normally, but they first talked to the other on picture day when both of their outfits got ruined by a surprise thunderstorm.
Dislikes watching other people's PDA, doesn't care about any of the Poets. Has still fake gagged and told Anderperry to "get a room" during one particularly long kiss and longing stare.
Was raised very religiously, taught all the horrible things about queer people. A lot of internalized homophobia as well.
Has regular movie nights with Meeks and Pitts, loves animated films and mysteries.
Was a big reason why Todd, took so long to come out as Gay and tell everyone about him and Neil. Cameron felt horrible and realized he had to work on himself, which eventually led to him coming out to the others.
Bonded the most with Todd about favorite books and teas. They both really liked Frankenstein and Earl Gray teas.
Blind as a bat without his glasses, he runs into everything and can't legally drive a car.
While he's smart, he thinks people only like him for his brain and not his own personality. He's thought this for a very long time, and still thinks it when making new friends.
Two left feet, can "dance", but is likely to step on toes and whack people in the face. Pitts doesn't care and dances with him the entire time.
Get stubborn when people question him and it often leads to fights. He's had a multiple day fight with Pitts about the radio and Pitts thought they would break up.
Unknowingly makes stupid faces reacting to things, he's "meep"ed before and it became a group chat reaction image.
Works with Charlie and takes photos of the Poets and random moments/when they make a funny reaction worthy face. Took the Meeks "meep" photo.
Hates fighting so much, both listening to others fight and fighting with someone himself. Rarely cries normally, but will often be in tears when someone is fighting either with him or someone else.
Stomach is a black hole, eats everything and anything, including Helton Hash. He never gains any pounds either his metabolism just works like that.
In the Poets, he had a hard time feeling like he belonged because someone else was always more of something then he was. Charlie was funnier, Neil was nicer, Meeks was smarter, Knox was more romantic, Todd was more creative, and Cameron was also smarter.
Learns bits and pieces of some of the languages Meeks knows and is planning on learning. He mainly learns compliments and how to say "I love you".
Most likely to use the group chat at 2 or 3 am for a random question or small little rant about love. Occasionally someone messages back, most of the time asking if he's gone to sleep at all or if he just woke up. Todd does indulge in the questions and rants the most.
Hates himself for the entire Chris situation. He realized how bad and creepy he was and wanted to apologize to her, but he hasn't because he feels like he doesn't deserve her forgiveness.
Read a bunch of Romance novels, like some of the classics. This did help him realize he was also open to guys, as a few of them made him flush a lot more than he intended.
He's had a hard time thinking he was good looking or attractive, He felt like everyone else was more attractive than him in the Poets and worried he'd end up alone.
Had a weird jealousy for Charlie, because he was mad Charlie was attractive, and was made he was the most attractive Poet. He later realized that it's kinda weird to be mad someone is hot. (He had a crush on Charlie and was upset he was so hot, essentially)
Hope you liked this one, this is definitely one of the ones I had a harder time with. I really would love if you guys gave requests for maybe au idea headcannons or headcannons in specific scenarios, like the poets at the beach or arcade. I'm feeling more burned out doing just plain headcannons and feel like I'm gonna repeat myself soon.
