there is this conversation about how pop culture treats "live action movie" as the ultimate adaptation of any work, the ultimate form that any story is to take if it wants to achieve cultural legitimacy. and how in contrast videogames are seen as puerile and childish.

i will say this: i genuenly think, genuenly truly think the piranesi could be adapted into a truly fantastic video game. Like generation defining game of the year tier game. I think piranesi has in itself the making of a truly fantastic game, something in the vein of myst or the return of obra dinn. Or maybe something more like grey or jorney.

my point is that i think videogames would be the perfect format to mine potential ideas or angles or unexplored potential in piranesi that you couldnt get at in any other medium. it wouldnt be just a gimmick or a tie in, it would be a legitimate artistic exploration. It could be on the same level as the i have no mouth and i must scream game.

Every now and then I look through the internet archive for interesting vintage sewing and fibercraft books. Today I found one that's really cool!

Clothes for Independent Living is the earliest source I've seen about altering clothing for people with disabilities. It was published in 1978 by the Michigan State University Cooperative Extension. They have hacks to add flexibility for better range of motion, help for people who use crutches and some basic stuff to improve clothing fit for people who use wheelchairs. The info on fastenings is pretty outdated, I think we have a lot of better options now, but otherwise the whole little pamphlet is useful and accessible.

Several times on here I've seen the take "I know local theater is bad and cringey, but you have to support it anyway!" And while I understand what they're getting at, I'm always like, why do you assume it's going to be "bad" just because the artists are members of your own community? I just saw a local production of The Importance of Being Earnest and it was HILARIOUS. Everyone was DELIGHTFULLY funny and we thoroughly enjoyed it! There have been so many times I've been greatly moved by "amateur" or student art, and if you can't allow yourself to appreciate anything but "the Best" (and who decides what "the Best" is anyway? This production of "Earnest" was way funnier than the version that Judy Dench and Rupert Everett were in, as deservedly "famous" as they might be) then you are just being a joyless snob. There's beauty and talent all around you. And if that makes me "easy to please," then well... That means I'm pleased more often! And why should I want to apologize for that?
