1/3 people with ADHD attribute rsd to be the worst part of having adhd, I am definitely one of those people. To my non adhders, please understand that it is not your fault for causing me this pain, but it is agonising and so anything you can do to limit the amount of pain caused is greatly appreciated

1) Please be honest when you cancel plans

If you tell me that you can't come and hang out because you have to look after your cousin, but you're actually hanging out with Eliza, I will know. Please just tell me straight out that you haven't seen Eliza in months and this is the only time your sceduals match up so can we please rescedual.

If you are no longer feeling up to going out, because of anxiety, depression, stress or anything else, PLEASE JUST TELL ME THIS. I get it, we've all been there before, there will be no judgement, but it will save me a lot of pain, questioning why everyone hates me and why I will never be good enough

2) Please do not make plans you don't intend to keep

We've seen the memes, but maybe you havent seen the anticipation that's getting us through the Week. To have something We Were so looking forard to taken aWay, it hurts, please just tell us you don't feel up to it

I choose to use ADHD rather than ADD becuase even though both terms are very flawed, I don't have an attention deficit, I may not be hyperactive in my body, but I am definitely hyperactive in my mind

Tips for managing a tidy room when you have ADHD

1) simplicity over aestetics

The most important part in managing a tidy room is having system that works for you. My current system involves having hobby boxes, I use felt boxes with handles that fit into my shelving as pictured below

This makes it very easy to grab a box out when I want to do an activity and I always know where to put specific items. Another thing I do to increase simplicity is my dirty clothing system. I always end up with dirty clothes around my room. This was something I put off for so long because it felt so lazy and unpleasing but I started up a bucket to put all my dirty clothes in and it has been a room changer, at least they are all contained to one small area.

2) Clear storage

This is something I use for things too small or specific to have their own box. This way I can keep things together and easily see whats inside. Some examples are shown below. One is a stackable set which is nive because it takes up less space, the other is just a cleaned our takeaway container that I use to hold small items like beads

I keep these clear boxes in a craft draw. It makes it exponentially easier to access things that I need.

3) Have a random objects and memorabilia box

Unlike neurotypical belief, decluttering doesn't have to mean getting rid of stuff. I always had so many things that I couldn't get rid of because someone special had given it to me, or it had a special memory attached to it. These things just seemed to always be lying around and in the way, cluttering up serfases. So I made a special box to put them all in. I have a decorated shoe box which is covered in photos of me with friends which I put items in, and a smaller clear box where I put pins and keychains as well as smaller items like coins. These aren't items I use in my daily life and so I can put them on the highest shelf, which would otherwise go to waste as it is out of reach.

ADHD brains have a lot to offer the world. We tend to be generous, funny, creative. ADHD'ers are 300% more likely to start their own business. We not only think outside the box, we’re often not even aware that there is a box.

General question to my fellow tumblrites with ADHD. Has your ADHD prevented you from driving? I have a license, but I decided for my own safety and safety of others not to drive because I'm too easily distracted. My mental health has also greatly deteriorated to where as I was having panic attacks in the car. (Also I have fibro, so sometimes my arms and legs hurt too much to type and walk, let alone drive.) It was not worth the risk to me. This has caused a lot of issues and obstacles for me because I don't live in an alternative commute friendly city, but I'd rather go though some hassle than be dead. Just curious if anyone else has that problem.

ABSOLUTELY, I also find driving impossible because there are just too many thinks that I have to pay attention to.  I can’t manage all of that focus at once. I also have the habit of getting scared on the road and then going into freak out mode and taking my hands off of the steering wheel. I’ve had three driving instructors quit on me because they feel being in a car with me is endangering their safety.  I’m 18 and I have 5 hours of driving experience.  I’m just incredibly lucky to live in a city where public transport is always an option

Does anyone else feel like there’s a difference between like… disorders that cause you distress primarily because of their symptoms and disorders that cause you distress primarily because of how society treats you for having it

Like, for example: I do not experience many troubles because of my adhd symptoms, but rather because of how society treats me for having ADHD (especially in the education field)

However, my OCD symptoms cause me a loooooot of hardships, especially the intrusive thoughts

And like I’m not saying that ADHD symptoms give me no distress at all (RSD for example can be debilitating), and there’s FOR SURE a ton of ableism in regards to OCD, but yeah, that’s how I sort it out in my mind
