The Blair Witch Project - Il mistero della strega di Blair è un film del 1999 diretto da Daniel Myrick ed Eduardo Sanchez.
Realizzato da una coppia di registi/autori esordienti, il film si colloca a metà strada tra il genere documentaristico e l'horror, pur essendo un prodotto autoriale che sfugge ad una classificazione semplicistica. Preceduto da un'originale campagna pubblicitaria[3], il film ha ottenuto molti consensi di pubblico e critica, nonché numerosi riconoscimenti, tra cui il “Premio Giovani” per il miglior film straniero al Festival di Cannes 1999, nonché una menzione speciale al Festival di Sitgesdel medesimo anno.
Le riprese del film si svolsero nell'ottobre 1997.[4]
Nel 2000, visto il notevole successo al botteghino, che lo ha reso il film di budget più basso con gli incassi più alti (248,6 milioni di dollari a fronte di un costo di produzione di 60.000 dollari), detenuto vent'anni prima da Interceptor, la casa che detiene i diritti, la Haxan Films, ha prodotto un seguito, Il libro segreto delle streghe: Blair Witch 2, nel quale, però, non sono stati coinvolti gli autori del primo episodio. Altre opere derivate sono alcuni libri, una serie a fumetti, un fotoromanzo del primo film ed una trilogia di videogiochi di genere survival horror (che costitutiscono uno spin-off del gioco horror Nocturne). Era previsto un terzo film della serie (un prequel annunciato nella versione DVD) ma non fu mai realizzato. Nel 2009 si iniziò a trattare per un seguito di questo primo capitolo che trascendesse i fatti del secondo, successivamente il 22 luglio 2016 al Comic-Con di San Diego è stato presentato, a sorpresa, il trailer del sequel Blair Witch. Il film è uscito negli USA il 16 settembre dello stesso anno con la regia di Adam Wingard. La trama: All'inizio della proiezione si viene informati della scomparsa di tre ragazzi nell'ottobre 1994[5], inoltratisi nei boschi circostanti il villaggio di Burkittsville(anticamente chiamato Blair), nella contea di Frederick, nel Maryland (USA), e del ritrovamento di alcune pellicole e nastri audiovisivi da essi realizzati nei giorni immediatamente precedenti la loro sparizione.
Il film è presentato come un semplice montaggio in ordine cronologico di questo materiale rinvenuto, a ricostruzione dei fatti che hanno visto coinvolti i tre giovani.
Si scopre così che i tre studenti universitari Heather, Mike e Josh hanno deciso di realizzare un documentario scolastico, con cui fare luce su una misteriosa leggenda locale, quella della fantomatica “Strega di Blair”, una vecchia di nome Elly Kedward vissuta alla fine del Settecento nel paese di Blair, a cui le cronache hanno attribuito atti di violenza a danno di bambini del paese, nonché la scomparsa di alcuni di loro.
La donna, che aveva rischiato il linciaggio dalla popolazione, era stata bandita dal villaggio e, rifugiatasi nei boschi, non vi aveva mai più fatto ritorno, per cui la credenza comune era che lì avesse trovato la morte.
Tuttavia, tempo dopo la sua presunta morte, molti ragazzini erano scomparsi nei meandri delle foreste di Blair, dove la popolazione credeva fosse il nascondiglio della Strega, e i fatti di sangue si moltiplicarono nelle zone selvagge che circondano il piccolo centro abitato, fino a risolversi nelle gesta di un locale serial killer realmente esistito e condannato a morte negli anni ‘40, Rustin Parr, che sostenne di aver compiuto i suoi efferati omicidi ai danni di sette bambini spinto dallo spettro della vecchia strega. L'uomo, catturandone due alla volta, li portava nella cantina della sua casa in mezzo al bosco e ne costringeva uno a girarsi faccia al muro mentre uccideva l'altro. I protagonisti nel tentativo di girare un documentario di tutto ciò, si troveranno nei guai. Io ho visto il primo film e il sequel del 2016, e personalmente non mi ha fatto impazzire, ma lo consiglio comunque a tutti gli amanti del genere horror, è una pellicola da recuperare, ve la consiglio👍🏻

Made by a couple of early filmmakers / authors, the film is halfway between documentary genre and horror, although it is an authoritative product that escapes a simplistic classification. Prior to being an original advertising campaign, the film has received many public and critical acclaim, as well as numerous awards, including the “Young Prize” for Best Foreign Film at the Cannes Film Festival 1999, as well as a special mention at the Festival of Sitges the same year.
Filming took place in October 1997.
In 2000, due to its remarkable success at the box office, which made it the lowest budget movie with the highest revenue ($ 248.6 million versus a $ 60,000 production cost), held twenty years earlier by Interceptor, the right-wing house, Haxan Films, produced a sequel, The Secret Book of Witches: Blair Witch 2, in which, however, the authors of the first episode were not involved. It turns out that the three college students Heather, Mike and Josh have decided to create a school documentary, to shed light on a mysterious local legend, that of the fantasy “Witch of Blair”, an old woman named Elly Kedward at the end of Eighteenth century in the village of Blair, to which the chronicles attributed acts of violence to the children of the country, as well as the disappearance of some of them.
The woman, who had risked the lynx of the population, had been banned from the village and, having taken shelter in the woods, had never returned, so the common belief was that he had found death there.
However, long after his alleged death, many children had disappeared in the meanders of Blair’s forests, where the people believed it was the Witch’s hideout, and bloodbuds multiplied in the wild areas surrounding the small town, the act of a local serial killer that was actually in existence and sentenced to death in the 1940s, Rustin Parr, who claimed to have committed his murderous murders at the expense of seven children driven by the spectator of the old witch. The man, taking them two at a time, carried them into the cellar of his home in the woods and forced one to turn face to face while killing the other. The protagonists in an attempt to shoot a documentary of this, will find themselves in trouble. I saw the first movie and the sequel in 2016, and personally did not make me crazy, but I still recommend it to all horror-lovers, it’s a movie to recover, I recommend it👍🏻
