Chance rant cause I love and hate him and need him DEAD. Part two eventually okay? Okay.

Chance is honestly the hardest to analyze especially since his lore was retconned. I think people see him as just some gambler and it’s really hard to defend him against that due to how he’s written so one noted in some ways. People struggle to see anything behind him beyond a careless gambler. But you have to keep in mind that while he is an addict it came from somewhere. Normal addicts aren’t willing to gamble their lives constantly, especially after blowing up for the hundred time. There’s something beyond it past just a crazed gambler with an addiction that people seem to ignore so greatly due to it being so hard to see with lore being so hard to find for him. Maybe the creators wanted a one noted character. However I see so much more. Taking into account not retconned and current lore chance gambles with his life for such little things constantly. Including Russian roulette simply to prove he can win to a guy, and fucking with the mafia for god knows why and giggling all the while, not to mention how he loads his gun with the specific intention to make it a gamble in his own life. It’s a conscious choice on his part. And he does it again and again despite his in round deaths over and over.

He cares not for his life and it’s very very clear if you read between the lines of his character. Not just in the sense of he loves the gamble and the thrill but he simply doesn’t care at all as long as he gets the chance to do something with any sort of well, chance involved. Which while is heavily tied to gambling also involves nihilism, which people often look past for simple gambling addiction. Which isn’t the complete story of his actions and reasonings! Often blaming his failures on luck, despite the choices he makes always being his own. Nihilism and feeling like everything is out of his control. Like he can’t control anything himself. Which both lead him to his very reckless decisions and lack of self care. He’s attempting to gain control and lose it all at the same time because he can’t decide which one he wants. Gambling takes away the choice and blame of things. It’s not his fault he blew up it was luck. Not him. He’s attempting to separate himself from anything and everything that relates with the world and faults simply because when he does attempt to control things he can’t. Hes just a man. He can’t control what he wants to and what happens. So he has made it so he has as little control as possible for the thrill. He barely had control when he tried? So why have any at all when you can separate yourself from everything and take all responsibility away from yourself. When you have control nothing matters cause you will never truly have control. So have none. But he DOES have control nothing matters cause matter how hard he tries to separate himself from that. Mostly for the fun of it. He’s still doing these things. He’s the one choosing to try and lose control and his own weight over everything. The things that happen are still his fault. Despite how much he tried to pretend it isn’t it’s all luck. Out of his control. Leading him further and further into attempting desperately to lose all sense of control on anything to push blame off himself. To push blame off himself. To make things not his fault. To prove his way of thinking is right and nothing truly is ever in anyone’s control especially his own. In its own way it’s giving him the feeling of control he desperately wants. Because he’s in control of how little control he has over his safety and the things he does. Which fuels this feeling that he has something. Some tangible control on something. Himself. How little he cares and effects himself. He will never truly have no control over anything he does and he never will truly have all control of himself either so the endless worsening cycle continues and he just gets worse and worse every day. But refuses to acknowledge that this is his own fault and responsibility so pretends it’s not happening at all and everything is for the love of the game. While so much of it is. The love of the game, of the gamble. There’s something deep inside that’s beyond that. That he refuses to accept and most likely never will. Just leading to more and more discontent in his life leading to more coping with gambling cause it makes the steaks higher. Makes it more fun because everything in his life is a game. A gamble he doesn’t have control over.

This is why I hate chance being mischaracterized so much or just dumbed down to a gambler. There’s so much more that could be done with him and how he works and how he THINKS. I think so many people could be so much more creative when it comes to his character. Even if the developers are not intentionally making him this way. There’s so much more to see and do with him. Even with his lore retconned. Though I do wish his old lore was still canon I will be coping completely by pretending it is forever and Itrapped is still canon. Okay?with that in mind I think people are underestimating chances wits when it comes to how aware he is of situations and people. I think with the Itrapped lore chance was AWARE of how Itrapped most likely was going to betray and kill him but he didn’t CARE. He’s not an idiot. Though with his careless attitude so many confuse him for such including other survivors. Including Itrapped. But its simply the fact the thrill is worth more then his life. Knowing Itrapped would betray him and still talking to him was apart of the gamble. He doesn’t care for his safety. It’s not worth anything. And it’s another way of giving up control to someone else. Itrapped is in control of his fate instead of luck this time, because he simple doesn’t care what his fate is. It doesn’t matter. It never mattered. And having someone else then the gambling gods and Lady Luck being in control of his life in such a way is so incredibly interesting to him. This man can control if he lives or dies just like Lady Luck did before. But this time it’s someone he can see, actually speak to. With feelings and goals. It’s so much more compelling and easy to completely let go. It’s something he’s never done before and it captivates him. Letting someone with sins and morals that are deeply different then his and he can never truly know them. It’s the ultimate gamble. He adores the idea! It finally lets him really lose control of his fate and himself just like he wanted to. He seems so casual and unaware of what’s happening but he knows. He just doesn’t care. The idea and the thrill fuels him to not care. To feel more at peace and comforted by the lack of control despite how unhealthy it is. I feel like they bit don’t understand each other. Itrapped wants to use chance not from cruelty and malice but how deeply he wants to free his friends from the mess he made. And I’d do good at masking apathy that no one can tell. But chance is so casual and upbeat, just seeming unintelligent in ways. But it’s actually just an apathy for his own personal safety and nihilism that he himself refuses to accept that he has. I don’t see the Itrapped and chance lore and manipulative as people make it. And I DEFINITELY don’t see it in any sort of abusive way at all. And that’s why I hate so many versions of Ichance. I don’t think they. I think they just don’t CARE. I don’t think chance gives a flying FUCK and I don’t think anyone else is seeing that. Even if he DIDNT know Itrapped’s plan I don’t think he cared in the end. I think they were a lot more healthy then people think they are. But this also ties into the fact I most definitely see chance as a masochist. I will never stop the chance nihilist and masochist propaganda. It’s canon. It’s canon! ITS CANON. ITS CANON IN MY HEART. NONE PF YOU UNDERSTAND. But uh. I think the retconned lore added a LOT to chances character and removing it lowers his character down to just a gambler with no real personality or goals beyond that and I hate that okay? It’s dumb. Forsaken. Fix this. Chance deserves better. Okay?
