A Jegulus Fic

The day of the match came quickly, and Regulus didn't need to have been told by Barty when it was happening, because it was all anyone could talk about. A buzz filled the Great Hall at the meals, and even the professors wished any students participating luck.

"I still don't really understand what the big deal is," Regulus grumbled as Barty dragged him into the stands. 

"Says you! You were incredible when we had to try out our broomsticks! You would be so good at Quidditch," Barty said with a playful nudge. Regulus just rolled his eyes.

"He's right, you know," Evan said, walking up beside Regulus. "You should play next year."

"I don't want to," Regulus said impatiently, and they took their seats. Beside him, Barty screamed chants and cheers along with many Slytherins.

When the players came out, Regulus caught sight of James. Regulus knew that he played, but sometimes it slipped his mind just how young James really was to already be the star Seeker. The way he moved on his broom was beyond impressive, Regulus had to admit. His muscles rippled as he clung tight to his broom. His eyes narrowed as he played, constantly searching. 

Slytherin was ahead for most of the game, gaining point after point, but Regulus knew it didn't really matter. Gryffindor wasn't far behind, and the Snitch was what actually won games. It was up to James and the Slytherin seeker, and he looked confused. James, on the other hand, flew through the air, gritting his teeth with determination. He seemed to catch sight of something, and then he was gone, whizzing through the pitch, dodging Bludgers and weaving through the Slytherin players. He was good.

He knew it wasn't allowed, but Regulus didn't really care. He snuck up to the Astronomy Tower. He had overheard a few Gryffindors talking about how to sneak up to it, and although Regulus hated admitting that Gryffindors were right, he didn't care in the dark of the night. The view was beautiful, no doubt about it, but the best part was the chilly air that engulfed him. He forced the dream out of his mind, adding it to the collection of the endless nightmares. 

"It's nice up here, isn't it?" a voice said softly. Regulus whipped around to find none other than James Potter, smiling at him. Regulus clenched his jaw.

"What are you doing up here?" Regulus hissed, refusing to make eye contact.

"Couldn't sleep. You know, this place isn't strictly Slytherin. I'm just as allowed to be here as you are," James remarked. Regulus didn't respond. Instead, he turned to leave, annoyed that James had ruined the brief peace he had. "I didn't say you had to leave, either. I'll shut up." Regulus paused. He turned away from James and walked as far away as possible while still being able to look out at the grounds. 

"Fine," he muttered.

"You know, you're very different from your brother," James said thoughtfully.

"No shit," Regulus scoffed. "I thought you were going to shut up."

"I like talking to you, though," James said with a smirk.

"We basically just met," Regulus said drily. James laughed. 

"You can't judge me then," James said brightly.

"Yes, I can, and I already do," Regulus said.

"Well, that's a shame, because I don't mind you. You're not as horrible as I thought you would be," James remarked. 

"Am I supposed to be honored by that?" Regulus asked. James shrugged. "Alright, I'm leaving. Thank you for the enlightening conversation."

"Don't go," James said quietly. "It's lonely up here."

PERFECT - A JEGULUS FIC

UPDATES EVERY WEEK OR EVERY FEW DAYS!

Regulus used to share everything with Sirius.

Until the fateful day in which Sirius turned eleven and was shipped off to school, and Regulus was left to fend for himself.

The worst part was when Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor. There was nothing worse than having to sit at those wretched family dinners, waiting patiently for his parents to stop talking about what a disappointment his brother was, hanging around with blood traitors and useless scum. Sirius had to know that without him around, Regulus was essentially the sole child of the Black family. That all of the pressure once placed on Sirius had been transferred to the shoulders of Regulus. That as soon as Sirius had went gallivanting off with his new friends, he was dead to the rest of his family. Regulus hated his parents, but more than anything, he hated Sirius. For leaving him behind.

And what little time Regulus had left with his brother was spoiled by talk of James. The stupid Potter boy who Sirius could never shut up about. And so Regulus hated him far before his first day at school. And when Regulus finally did step into the dining hall and spot his brother, laughing his head off next to some boy who Regulus could only assume was James, all of his previous sentiments about James were solidified. Mainly because of his stupid, stupid glasses that made his features sharp, and his annoying hazel eyes, and his goddamn hair that was all messy and unruly and the complete opposite of Regulus' neat, dark curls. Yes, of course Regulus understood why the girls threw themselves at James. He was handsome. But in that annoying, scrappy way that screamed 'troublemaker'.

When the sorting hat was placed atop Regulus' head, he couldn't help but lift his chin, and cast a superior gaze into the crowd. He heard chatter coming from the Gryffindor table and briefly glanced over to spot James cackling loudly. A look of irritation flashed across his face before Regulus could help himself.

"Slytherin!" The sorting hat cried out, and Regulus let a smug smirk drift onto his face. His parents would be pleased. Regulus wasn't sure if that made him happy or not, though. He took a seat calmly at the Slytherin table, adorned with green decorations.

"I'm Barty," a boy to his right said to him with a grin. "Barty Crouch Jr." 

"Regulus Black," Regulus said curtly. He gave a polite nod. The Slytherin table wasn't nearly as loud as the Gryffindor one, although chatter filled the dining hall. Regulus took note of the people surrounding him. Many of them he knew from his parents, although there were a few strangers.

my post was abt the whole idea that realizing you aren’t cis doesn’t mean you have to change everything. this could be bcuz it would be a risk to your health or financial stability. it could be because you don’t feel safe doing it. it could be because you already present more ambiguous and don’t feel the need to change anything. also, side note, some ppl might not feel actively uncomfortable being treated as their birth sex, but being treated as their chosen identity makes them euphoric, and that still counts.

but yeah, if you would prefer to be your birth sex, then you are probably cis
