In a local production of hadestown that i saw, when it came time for orpheus to sing epic III, the fates didnt give him his guitar back. You see, up on the platform by hades' office door, a shiny black guitar has been mounted on the wall throughout the whole play. It is this guitar that orpheus is given to play epic III on: hades' guitar. He once sang a song of love like orpheus, you know.
chills btw

I made my own little addition, hope you don't mind <3
Hadestown Hades be like I miss my wife so I'm gonna make it everyone's problem by inventing global warming
I think my favourite part of the hadestown proshoot is when Eurydice says, "Is he always like this?" and Hermes, who has seen this story a thousand thousand times, who has tried again and again to warn Orpheus not to come on too strong, says with Extreme Exhaustion in his voice, "Yes."
Hermes being the only one seemingly aware of the timeloop nature of the musical really adds something. He watches the same embarrassing meet cute, sees them fall in love, observes them be separated, gives oprheus the same advice to save her only for him to fumble it every single time. Its a labor of love and exhaustion to see the same patterns repeated over and over and trying to stop it every single time
i really really really really really like hadestown's repeated use of "eurydice was a hungry girl" because at first pass you might think oh, she's scrappy and street smart and her ambition is going to be the foil to orpheus's idealist romanticism. but nope! no she is literally hungry. she is starving. that is her motivator and everybody knows it. she loves, oh she does, but she can't be fucking blamed for fulfilling her physical needs first.

I love all the little costuming details you can see in the proshot. Hade's having snakeskin arm bands. Eurydice wearing a snake ring on her fingers and a feather in her hair. The coal covering the souls in hadestown. The lace at the end of Eurydices dress, making it look almost tattered. Hermes wing pins, of course. Just so many things you could never catch from the stage
“Come home with me!”
It's been WAY too long since I listened to the obcr version of "Our Lady of the Underground." I can't believe I forgot about Brian Drye on the trombone.. Marika Hughes on the cello... Dana Lyn on the violin.... Ben Perowsky on the drums... Robinson Morse on the bass.... Michael Chorney on the guitar... and Liam Robinson on the keys.........
Every time I have seen Hadestown - on stage or in the movie theater - people gasp when Orpheus turns around. I just love how it's so old and yet everyone is still always hoping that this time
something that will make sense to literally only me
if i bring back my hadestown protomen comparison now will people get it
something something Orpheus and Joe. he was so close, he almost made it, but he was also always doomed to fail. but he also made it further than any other man has. climb to the top of the world, and when you fall you'll fall from a height most men will never reach
i love u hadestown proshot i love u close ups on the musicians i love u costume details i love u staging details i love u light design details i love u turntable i love u patrick page's boot i love u soon-to-be married reeve & eva in these roles i love u hadestown and ur message of hope despite it all i love u musicals i love u i love u mwah
it's time for spring. we'll try again next fall.
(happy time loop tragedy musical in movie theaters day to all who celebrate)
Kinda insane just how much the accommodations and consideration for Patrick Page's disability improved the show and gave Hades a whole new layer of depth. Every show should be so good to their disabled actors
hey don't cry. springtime orphydice
I saw the Hadestown pro recording last night and I am vibrating god I love this musical SO MUCH. This is the best of the fanart I made like 7 years ago when it first came to Broadway. I've been so burned out lately but I was so excited after seeing Hadestown again I'm like... MAN I should try to make something cool today.
