@angbey
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: it’s more important to know and understand fully why something is harmful than it is to drop everything deemed problematic. It’s performative and does nothing. People wonder why nobody has critical thinking skills and this is part of it because no one knows how to simousltansly critique and consume media. You need to use discernment.
This is ultimately why propaganda is going to work on you. Because you never learned how to think for yourself and the actual ideology behind things. You simply rely on group think and the bare minimum explanations to tell you what’s good and bad.
I thought this was my hometown for a second
So this has actually been cited by academics as part of the major draw to online spaces is the fact that just existing in public is reacted to with hostility and punishment. Gretchen McCulloch discussed this is in her book Because Internet, citing research that shows teens and young adults want to be outside! We want to spend time in social places, it’s just that there aren’t any places to exist in public without being charged for it.
every 1 is honestly beautiful and tragic like sometimes i can't look people in the eye because im like i know something is making you deeply irreversibly sad and you're just here talking to me about the weather and im going to let you
“Was this Ash person Okumura-san’s… uh… well, lover?”
“He was more than that. They were…connected to each other, soul to soul.”
i really really love when animals lay on their back and their paws do that thing
the front paws. i love that
its just very good
Just watched the 2020 movie Spontaneous and honestly? I loved it. On the surface, there is no reason I should watch a movie about high schoolers spontaneously combusting and think "I know what this feels like" but I do!!! It captured the feeling of going through senior year of high school in modern America so well. It's the only teen movie I've watched where the dialogue was witty enough to be fun to watch but realistic enough that it sounded like conversations I've had with my own friends, dark humor and all. The way the movie jumps from tragedy to humor because that's the only way they know how to process the trauma was so familiar.
I saw a few reviews discussing how the spontaneous explosions are probably a direct metaphor for school sh/ootings but I disagree, at least partly. The explosions stand in for a more ambiguous yet imminent fear. It's the constant knowledge that -something- could interrupt you at any moment and make the world feel like its ending. Even when you're happy. It could be hearing the fire alarm while your in math class and not knowing whether to get outside or barricade the door. It's how every time you look at your phone you have to prepare for anything, the worst kind of news, to be flooding social media. It's the universal fear high schoolers have of the future, of life beyond graduation, mixed with the fatalistic knowledge that nothing is guaranteed. Hell, who knows if any of us will be here in half a century with the way the environment is degrading? All of it twists together and lives in the back of our brains 24/7. It taints happy memories and makes bad events feel inevitable. But life keeps moving on. And seeing a movie capture that in such a bold, physical way was cathartic.
I'm not really going anywhere with this, I just stayed up to 2 am to watch this and had to get my thoughts out. Anyway, I loved it-- for a lot of reasons other than what I mentioned here. It's not a technical masterpiece but it spoke to me and it's now one of my favorite movies.

“The Big Bang happened out of nowhere for no reason. … Volcanoes erupt, and drunk drivers drive, and sink holes collapse. And sometimes, people explode.”
in case anyone was wondering, this is Dean Balsamini; the NY Post reporter who doxxed a 23 year old EMT for having an OnlyFans account despite her begging him not to publish the story after he snooped around on her anyway.
aside from trying to make ends meet as an EMT with an OnlyFans gig on the side, she also was working as a part time restaurant host, during a pandemic. this piece of shit reporter went behind her back and informed her employer about her OnlyFans gig. Dean Balsamini and Susan Edelman disregarded the ethics of journalism and published the story as well as the EMT’s name without permission anyway, resulting in a maelstrom of heartache and stress for this 23 year old EMT who has since received death threats and has lived in fear of losing her job—DURING A PANDEMIC.
let Balsamini know how you feel:
oh my…

hi so everyone's probably aware of what happened in lebanon today so if you're reading this please spread awareness:
the air is currently filled with toxins (nitric acid to be specific) and its not safe whatsoever so if you're lebanese:
1. please stay inside and close every door/window, the fumes are fatal and inhaling them could kill
2. if you have pets keep them inside at all costs
3. if you have to be outside remember to take precautions and wear gloves and a mask (make sure your mask isnt loose too) and stay away from anywhere that has pink/red smoke as its a remnant of the chemicals from the explosion
"the trauma made you kind" fuck that. no. i am kind because i cannot allow anyone to go through what i did. i am soft because i chose to be.
Trauma made me scared, angry, and vulnerable.
I made myself kind.
“Ten spears go to battle," he whispered, "and nine shatter. Did the war forge the one that remained? No, Amaram. All the war did was identify the spear that would not break.”
- Brandon Sanderson’s Oathbringer
What if there was an apocalypse but some people were really really in denial and optimistic and thinking everything will be back to normal soon?
Like they’d be foraging through the ruins of New York for supplies, shooting raiders in the face and saying “Man, this recession is really bad, huh?”
Umm….
ARE YOU KIDDING ME
this post, plus that satire one about the increasingly ridiculous callout culture that slowly became more and more accurate
this one
was anything going on in 2017??? did everyone randomly have prophetic visions????????
Another one from 2017 by @nullsynth
the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
turns out we had the 2020 vision after all
“the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls” is actually a really fucking metal quote and i will be using it in the future
@handoverthehands it’s from Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel. Referenced as well in Spirit of the Radio by Rush and again in Disturbed’s cover of the original.
And that in itself was a reference to the Book of Daniel from the bible, when the words of the prophet were written on the Babylonian palace walls.
In the real world, it’s not the kings and people in power who see the signs of doom, but the poor people in the subway, helpless to stop it.
