The New American Gothic (2017) by Criselda Vasquez

Robby: threatening to "leave"
Me watching after learning that they axed one of the best characters:
I understand that my anger at Robby comes in part from a distinctly "gay woman in the American South in a director-level position" place, but I think a lot people really cannot grasp how bad Robby is at managing the people who report to him, who he's been charged with teaching, guiding, and mentoring. He is the kind of department head that I have to actively work around. The kind of department head whose employees come to me asking for my help.
Dana's flaws are thousand percent less irritating to me because she is a good manager. She is a fantastic leader, even as she's breaking down emotionally.
Robby is a good emergency room physician. Robby is not a good Chief of Emergency Medicine, or a good residency program director.
I wish each individual chapter of a fic on AO3 had the date when it was posted, rather than just when the fic was first posted and when the last update was.
That way you can see at a glance how often a WIP is updated, whether it’s fairly regularly or with huge long gaps between chapters; or if the first 20 chapters were posted in quick succession but the most recent couple were posted at long intervals, indicating that the writer is losing interest and may not finish, etc.
Someone just liked this 10 year old post and tagged it “wishlist” and I feel obliged to add that immediately after posting this, in 2014, I was informed that this DOES exist. So for those of you who don’t know:

There ya go @oa-trance!
why did I not already know this

Chappell Roan, who left her talent agency when she found out the Ceo was in the Epstein Files, is getting more hate than people in the actual Epstein files. Pedophiles are currently presidents and starting wars, wife beaters are getting awards and selling out stadiums, but a lesbian who is not the nicest most cheerful person 24/7 is the actual devil and getting banned from performing. I think she should be meaner. Let her be the nastiest bitch in the world. Maybe more women will wake up from the fucking trance this world has put us through and realise being "not nice" is not the biggest crime in the world.
This isn’t what I usually write about, but I think it’s important.
People talk a lot about fight or flight, but there are two other responses to uncertainty and fear which are equally, if not more, more common in people. Those are fawn, and freeze. Fawn is, smile and try to smooth things over and keep things quiet and maybe you won’t be hurt. Freeze is, mechanically continue doing what you’re Supposed to do, or even genuinely freeze, just do nothing while everything happens around you; if you are very still, maybe the nightmare will pass you by, or maybe pure terror just turns you into a statue.
The way you triumph over fawn and freeze is exactly the same as how you conquer your urge to flee, or to lash out unthinkingly in times of stress: You have to practice.
You have to practice in your head, before you get to the point that you might need to do it in real life. You have to really think about it. If someone comes to my door and asks me to talk about my neighbors, what do I do. If the neighbor comes to the door and begs me to hide them, what do I do. If I’m walking to the car in the Kroger parking lot and I see agents taking someone down, what do I do. If I’m driving down the road and I see someone getting their car windows busted open, what do I do. If the enemy comes to my place of work and I am expected to just go along with it, to aid them in their efforts, what do I do.
You have to plan. Who is your emergency call? What is your support network? How can you strengthen your community before the beasts come to destroy it? Which coworkers do you think would back you up, and so you should become closer to them now? Which coworkers do you think would provide aid to the monsters, and so should be distracted when the time comes?
You have to prepare. It’s time to dump some apps off your phone and load others. Time to make sure that the first aid kit you keep in your car is up to date. Time to make sure the guest room is cleaned out. Time to get your cardio up a little, maybe. Time to get a whistle. Time to figure out what options you have, and how they can fill the needs you might face.
This all sucks. It’s unlikely to suck much less very soon. It’s our responsibility to push back, as we can, in ways quiet and loud–and it’s a lot easier to rise to the need if we’re not doing it entirely cold.
When you were very young, I would play this to make you laugh. I hoped it might still work.

Copyright class actions could financially ruin AI industry, trade groups say.
AI industry groups are urging an appeals court to block what they say is the largest copyright class action ever certified. They’ve warned that a single lawsuit raised by three authors over Anthropic’s AI training now threatens to “financially ruin” the entire AI industry if up to 7 million claimants end up joining the litigation and forcing a settlement.

There's something thats just so incredibly funny about the Afroman lawsuit cause theres literally no substance to it. Seeing all these cops getting upset and offended by Afroman music in a courtroom setting is just so fucking funny. Like a lawyer asking a cop "what private information of yours exactly was breached by the phrase "receding hairline dipshit"?" Like you could have saved yourself the extra humiliation, but instead you guys took it to court and now everyone has seen your sheriff literally break down crying over a song that says she licks pussy. Thats just objectively hilarious
I can't get over this. Afroman releasing individual diss tracks about each of the cops is so good. Cause like its one thing to make one or two songs about the house raid, but then to proceed to make a song called "Randy Walters is a son of a Bitch", call him out by name and say you fucked his wife, and then have that same cop go on court record saying he cannot confirm or deny that he got cucked by Afroman. Like congrats man. Before, everyone just thought he was joking about fucking your wife, but now you wont deny it
when you spent all morning trying to talk to your coworker (who has the same job title as you) about how to make sure that your workplace has a smooth transition from his control to yours, but he kept blowing you off and didn't want to hear about any of the idea that you had and wanted to run by him, and every time you tried to have a serious conversation with you he would say he was just trying to get through the day so he could leave on his three month sabbatical, and now, after ignoring every single attempt you made to make sure that you could run your workplace smoothly without him, he's telling you he doesn't think that the workplace will survive without him (he just berrated one of his female employees for being stressed) even though you just saved a child with a procedure he had never even heard of, much less knew how to perform
