every ship war is just spuffy vs bangel, when you get down to it
This is so true, and I want someone to actually unpack why it’s actually the determinative ship war
reading reviews of intervention and it's always like you guys don't get this episode like i get this episode
Buffy is so funny sometimes like she makes me cackle because what do you mean your mortal enemy vampire guy can just come in to your bedroom in the middle of the night while you’re in bed naked and you just talk to him…
you talk to him and then when he asks you to go somewhere with him you AGREE (??) and make him turn around while you get dressed
NOT EXIT THE ROOM AND HOUSE but just turn around yeah good pet vampire he’s not gonna look and he can just stand there yk bit of company while I put my clothes on
and all that time, all that stuff with her literally knowing he can come in any time be it to stalk her or her family or steal stuff or idk what a silly thought kill them
she doesn’t revoke the invite, doesn’t even bother doesn’t even care
and the only time she DOES care is when she knows he has feelings for her, when it’s obvious now he doesn’t kill her cause he loves her
he could come in any time, put poison in their drinks idk set the house on fire, leave the gas stove on
THERE’S SO MANY WAYS TO KILL SOMEONE like cmon or at least harm them
it’s just hilarious how she really didn’t care about him being evil and didn’t take it seriously but as soon as she finds out he has a crush on her oh boy NOW she’s scared of the big bad Spikey
btvs | passion
"it hurts sometimes more than we can bear. if we could live without passion, maybe we'd know some kind of peace. but we'd be hollow, empty rooms, shuttered and dank. without passion, we'd be truly dead."
it really is crazy how much s3 kills any and all interest one might have in the bangel relationship
i do very much like the very early s3 episodes before angel comes back that show buffys guilt and grief about killing angel and her acceptance of his death i think its a tender and well done capstone to their relationship bc it is a very classic tragedy! but then angel falls oiled up ass naked from the sky and proceeds to be a life suck for the rest of the season
Think of your top five Buffyverse characters – no ties allowed because I’m a cruel person ;) Is Spike among your top five Buffyverse characters?
Yes!
No, but he's among the top 10
Nope, not even among the top 10
Think of your top five Buffyverse characters – no ties allowed because I’m a cruel person ;) Is Willow Rosenberg among your top five Buffyverse characters?
Yes!
No, but she's among the top 10
Nope, not even among the top 10
Growing up is realizing that Damon Salvatore was a stagnant character trapped in an endless cycle of fuckups by writers and a fan base that refused to let him grow, and if he was going to be with anyone, it should've been Bonnie, the only person to consistently hold him accountable and force him to face the consequences of his actions.
friendly reminder that Cordelia Chase was not only beautiful, confident, and sassy, but she was also top ten percent of her class
What I love most about Veronica Mars is that they let her be wrong. Wrong enough that she has to reconsider her own assumptions and behavior and take affirmative actions to correct the consequences. So many shows don’t let their main character do that, in fear that it would make them less likable, and I think Veronica’s fallibility and the compassion that drives her to fix her mistakes is the most likable thing about her
1. Willow
2. Tara
3. Dark Willow
4. Willow: “Actually, this isn't about you. Although I'm fond, don't get me wrong, of you. The other night, you know, being captured and all, facing off with Faith. Things just, kind of, got clear. I mean, you've been fighting evil here for three years, and I've helped some, and now we're supposed to decide what we want to do with our lives. And I just realized that that's what I want to do. Fight evil, help people. I mean, I-I think it's worth doing. And I don't think you do it because you have to. It's a good fight, Buffy, and I want in.”
5. When Xander is trying to prove to Willow that he is the real Xander in ‘The Replacement’ and he does the Snoopy dance. Their PLATONIC relationship is adorable.
6. Xander and Harmony has the BEST fight scene in the whole show. Don’t deny it. 👌
Oh, alright. The demonstration fight scene in ‘Fool For Love’ with the clever editing transitions of Spike fighting the previous Slayer and then cutting back to him fighting Buffy even though he can’t hit her.
7. The Enjoining Spell. Not only is it cool as fuck but it brings about the First Slayer consequences and the genius of ‘Restless’ at a result. How could I not love it?
8. ‘Nightmares’
9. ‘Becoming Part 1’
10. ‘Doppelgängland’
11. ‘Restless’
12. ‘Family’
13. ‘Once More, With Feeling’
14. ‘Conversations With Dead People’
15. The Scooby meeting in ‘Hush’ with the projector and the Danse Macabre music and the absolutely hilarious misinterpretations of each other’s ideas because none of them can say what they mean.
16. Willow/Xander/Anya/Tara reactions in ‘The Body’.
17. ‘Under Your Spell’ even though I hate watching the end of the musical number alongside it because of the context of it.
18. Giles: “She was truly the best of all of us.”
Xander: “Way better than me.”
Giles: “Much, much better.”
19. Professor Walsh: “We thought you were a myth.” Buffy: “Well, you were myth-taken.”
20. Willow: “And remember, if you hurt her I will beat you to death with a shovel.
*Riley looks alarmed*
A vague disclaimer is nobody’s friend. Have fun.”
21. “First day of kindergarten. You cried because you broke the yellow crayon, and you were too afraid to tell anyone. You've come pretty far, ending the world, not a terrific notion. But the thing is? Yeah. I love you. I loved crayon-breaky Willow and I love... scary veiny Willow. So if I'm going out, it's here. If you wanna kill the world? Well, then start with me. I've earned that.”
22. “Yes, it’s terribly simple. The good-guys are stalwart and true. The bad-guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats and we always defeat them and save the day. Nobody ever dies...and everybody lives happily ever after.”
23. “You listen to me. I've been alive a bit longer than you, and dead a lot longer than that. I've seen things you couldn't imagine, and done things I prefer you didn't. I don't exactly have a reputation for being a thinker. I follow my blood, which doesn't exactly rush in the direction of my brain. So I make a lot of mistakes, a lot of wrong bloody calls. A 100+ years, and there's only one thing I've ever been sure of: you. Hey, look at me. I'm not asking you for anything. When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you. And I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.”
24. Spike and Buffy
25. Willow and Tara
26. Willow and Giles (Only if Willow was bisexual and after Tara so she’s a consenting adult)
27. Buffy and Willow
28. I vaguely remember watching ‘Nightmares’ when I was a child. I wasn’t completely oblivious to the show. I just didn’t give it a chance until much much later.
29. I like the Season 6 opener the best because it includes the Willow and Tara dance scene from ‘Family’ which is my favourite W/T scene.
30. No brainer. Season 5. They did everything right. The hero died a heroes death. All the Scoobies had use and a part to play in the finale. And most of all, Tara got her sanity back and didn’t die. Perfect.
I tag @willnotacceptalifeundeserved
Oh boy. Alright, decisions.
Buffy
Dawn (is she supporting or main? Unsure - but I'm basing this off of who's in the scooby squad from season one vs who comes in later)
Dark Willow, but in terms of episodic villains then The Gentlemen from Hush.
"You're Willow. The first day of kindergarten, you cried because you broke the yellow crayon. And you were too afraid to tell anyone. You've come pretty far, ending the world not a terrific notion. But the thing is? Yeah, I love you. I love crayon-breaky Willow, and I love scary, veiny Willow. So if I'm going out, it's here. If you want to kill the world, well then start with me."
"We're family" as they stand semi proudly, semi-awkwardly, perfectly positioned in the frame.
Easily the part exposition part fight scene at the end of Fool for love, makes me want to marry the editing.
Bargaining resurrection spell, for just how wonderfully dark and messed up and messy it is allowed to be, like bringing Buffy back doesn't just have nebulous consequences on balance, but tangible disturbing consequences for Willow especially in the real world. Plus the demon they create out of it for Afterlife that has some fantastic little horror sequences.
Prophecy Girl.
Innocence.
Lovers Walk.
Restless.
The Body.
Tabula Rasa/Once more with feeling (can't choose).
Conversations with dead people.
Cut to Giles fighting a miserable-looking skeleton in Tabula Rasa. "GET A DIFFERENT BOOK! TRY ANOTHER SPELL YOU HEAR ME? NOT - THAT - BOOK!"
The opening long take of The Body in which Buffy has to call 911 and do cpr...
Rest in peace easily. Love the musical style and James' vocal performance is godly. It's also very funny how in the middle of it he just randomly wrecks a funeral that's happening in the middle of the night for some reason.
Buffy getting suuuuper creative in Superstar with "Shut up Spike!" "Woah, semi harsh language from Betty!" "It's BUFFY. You big - bleached - stupid guy."
"I walk. I talk. I shop, I sneeze. I'm gonna be a fireman when the floods roll back. There's trees in the desert since you moved out, and I don't sleep on a bed of bones. Now give me back my friends."
"Well they're the bad guys. I'm not a bad guy!"
"Look. When it's dark, and I'm all alone, and I'm scared, or freaked out, or whatever, I always think, what would Buffy do? You're my hero."
Demon: "My debt to you has now been repaid in full." Willow: "What did you do?" Giles: "I introduced him to his wife."
Buffy: "I don't want to be the one." Spike: "Well I didn't want to be this good looking and athletic. We all have our crosses to bear."
Spike and Buffy
Willow and Tara
If they were going to have a Willow romance in season 7, and Faith was going to come back...then at least try putting them together. Even if it's with the implication that it won't work out in the long run.
Willow and Xander.
I mean I watched the show from the beginning as a total newbie, so technically episode 1, after a childhood of cartoons and only one live action show (Star Trek Deep space nine). However growing up my parents quoted Beer Bad so excessively that it felt familiar to watch even on a first time viewing.
I have a special love for Anne, even though I think the best Scooby content for characters who aren't Buffy in a premiere is Bargaining. So...Anne just edges it out because Buffy is my favourite.
Going off of the last episodes of seasons then Restless for sure, but since it's more of an epilogue then my other favourite is Becoming part 2 for the sheer sinking feeling that it gave me when watching that cliffhanger. Cause Buffy apparently dying but at least doing it on her own terms and with a closing monologue and music is one thing, but a totally broken Buffy feeling completely abandoned and running away? Wrecked me.
“Dawn (is she supporting or main? Unsure - but I'm basing this off of who's in the scooby squad from season one vs who comes in later)”
She’s supporting but the narrative does wrap around her quite a bit in Season 5. It’s intentional.
“Dark Willow, but in terms of episodic villains then The Gentlemen from Hush.”
Agreed. They’re my favourite monster-of-the-week.
“"We're family" as they stand semi proudly, semi-awkwardly, perfectly positioned in the frame.”
I’ve changed my mind on mine for this. I choose this scene too. Especially because Spike is in the frame because I love that he is declared family too. I can’t believe I never thought of this scene. It’s THE Scooby moment. The one that really resonates with everyone.
“Easily the part exposition part fight scene at the end of Fool for love, makes me want to marry the editing.”
I swear we have the same brain sometimes.
“Restless easily. Love the musical style and James' vocal performance is godly. It's also very funny how in the middle of it he just randomly wrecks a funeral that's happening in the middle of the night for some reason.”
You mean ‘Rest In Peace’. Easy mistake to make when the episode ‘Restless’ is so good. 😊
“If they were going to have a Willow romance in season 7, and Faith was going to come back...then at least try putting them together. Even if it's with the implication that it won't work out in the long run.”
Gods I so wished for this to happen too. Such a missed opportunity to pair them up in Season 7. Like you said… even if it ultimately wouldn’t have worked out for them.
Really great picks. Thanks for responding.
Don’t forget to tag someone else to keep it going.
Yeah I misstyped, Rest in peace.
I guess Dawn is technically supporting but she's so prevalent in my mind that I cannot imagine her as anything but a main character. In a way that spell the monks did worked on me lol.
@angelofthe2000s if you are interested but also open to anyone else who sees this and wants to do it, as per usual.
1. Buffy
2. Cordelia (I’m counting her as supporting here even though arguably she’s an OG scooby because she leaves after season 3)
3. Glory is my favorite Big Bad, Sweet for my favorite MoW
4. “The spark. I wanted to give you what you deserve, and I got it. They put the spark in me and now all it does is burn.”
5. I agree with what someone said above, it has to be the scene in Family
6. Spike and Buffy in School Hard, Buffy and Angel in Becoming part 2, Buffy and Faith in This Year’s Girl. I love when Buffy fights her love interests clearly lmao
7. Spell at the end that awakens all the slayers. “Every girl that could have the power, will have the power”. The girl with the baseball bat and the girl who gets up after her boyfriend hits her, I just love that spell so much.
8. Prophecy Girl
9. Passion
10. Homecoming or The Wish
11. Something Blue or Hush
12. The Body or Fool for Love
13. Once More With Feeling
14. Chosen
15. The scene between Spike and Buffy in Touched, it’s just so vulnerable and intimate.
16. When Buffy finds her mom in The Body, god I can’t even imagine, poor girl.
17. Rest in Peace but I’m also partial to Walk Through the Fire.
18. “What is your childhood trauma?!” Gotta love Cordy
19. As a response to Cordelia asking if she’s campaigning for bitch of the year: “As defending champion, you nervous?”
20. “That’s me as a vampire? I’m so evil and skanky… and I think I’m kind of gay.”
21. “A bitca?”
22. “Do you like my mask? Isn’t it pretty? It raises the dead! Americans.”
23. “That’s a big rock. Can’t wait to tell all my friends, they don’t have a rock this big.” And obviously his whole speech to Buffy in Touched.
24. Spike and Buffy.
25. Willow and Tara
26. Giles and Anya, their scenes in Tabula Rasa had so much chemistry
27. Buffy and Willow
28. Once More With Feeling like years and years before I actually watched the show
29. Bargaining- just seeing how her friends and Dawn are coping with Buffy’s death was so interesting.
30. Yeah it’s got to be The Gift. It’s the perfect finale, could very well have been the end of the show although I’m so glad it wasn’t because I love season 6 and I’m fond of 7.
Weevil thinks he's so edgy for a guy with more moral standings than like 2/3rds of his high school.
Best Sister Tournament: Round 9 (Finals): Battle of the protective older sisters who were willing to sacrifice their own lives to save their little sisters
Buffy Summers (BtVS)
Katniss Everdeen (THG)
Propaganda Under Cut:
I despise ship wars, but honestly shout out to the Buffy fandom for having the gumption to keep the same ship war circulating for nearly 30 years.
As somebody who loves enemies to lovers and ADORES villian/protag (like I’ve never met a villian/protag I didn’t at least mildly enjoy), I have never gotten into Reylo and I don’t know why. Can someone explain the appeal to me or maybe like why I’m not that into it even though I love the trope and they are such an iconic example of it? I want to get into it, I don’t know what’s stopping me (maybe it’s all the racial controversy after the first film? I barely remember it but maybe it just left a bad taste in my mouth or something?). Idk Reylos I want to stand with you so someone pls make a really good argument, make me see what I’m not seeing
