Loving you Isn’t an Accident | Diego Hargreeves x Reader
Prompt: “Christ, Y/N, I missed you too.”
Damn Diego straight to hell.
You hadn’t spoken to any of your siblings for twelve years, yet Diego seemed to take it personally, shattering any semblance of having a normal family reunion.
He could at least try to pretend, you thought, everyone else is.
“You know,” he started leaning against the door frame, arms crossed, “you look really good, all things considered.”
“All things considered, what is that supposed to mean?” you asked turning sharply, ready to spit fire at your most annoying, but quite possibly favorite brother. Instead you faltered, you faltered because of the way he was hunched over as if he was about to cave in on himself. You didn’t think it possible a single person could hold so much sadness within them.
Seeming to notice your once lazy stare turned analytical he stood up straight, “I don’t know. I just expected you to look the same, I guess. You always seemed so much softer, so hopeful.”
“Yeah… well, I’m not seventeen, and I sure as hell don’t think I can change the world anymore,” you swallowed sorrowfully, the past twelve years slamming into you like a freight train. He stepped closer to you. In the same way you might approach a stray cat, afraid the slightest movement might send you running out of his life forever.
“For what it’s worth, I always thought you could,” he said giving you the slightest nod.
Fuck it, you thought. You’re so tired of how awkward and clunky this conversation feels. You used to spend hours talking to Diego, telling him every single hope and idea you had for your life, now… now you can barely look at him.
You barreled into him, wrapping your arms as tight around his torso as possible, “I missed you.”
He held you close trying to absorb you into his bloodstream, like you could be the glue to hold him together. His hand drew circles around your back in a way that felt all to familiar.
Crying because you hadn’t seen him in twelve years. Because you had no idea seeing him would hurt this bad. Because you didn’t want him to disappear again.
Crying because you only felt right when he was holding you.
“Christ, Y/N, I missed you too.”
