Today I encountered an especially pathetic Italian greyhound. His owner told me that a gust of wind once blew him into a lake.

Is remediation even possible?
Oh, man... This nails it.
AI is digital asbestos. It's toxic, it's everywhere, and at one time it was the answer to everything.

“you think you’re better than people because you don’t use chatgpt” oh boy
billions of dollars and untold environmental damage for this groundbreaking technology
I've yet to find a quick and elegant way to say that simultaneously, ascribing "evil" to animals is nonsense because "evil" is defined by a human moral framework that animals are not agents within; but humans are not uniquely "evil" compared to animals because our human moral framework is built around defining unacceptable behaviors within society (evil) and animals can often be found preforming those unacceptable behaviors, but they are not agents in human society. But we share many behaviors because humans are animals, so our behaviors are animal behaviors. I don't know. Hard to reduce to a pithy phrase because it's a dense series of concepts.
I feel like there's people who are quick to ascribe evil to any animal they learn an upsetting behavioral fact about. And then on the opposite end there's people who are convinced that there is something wrong with humans, specifically, that has resulted in our current ecological problems, and if a different animal had become sapient (or if none had) Earth would be utopian with no zoogenic ecological disasters. The former is a kind of anthropomorphism, the latter is a kind of self hatred that loops back around to being human chauvinism— "only humans could fuck things up so bad, because we are so special." Really we are just a normal social animal that evolved an extremely successful combination of language and tool use. Essentially all animals change their environment to suit their needs better and prioritize the continuation of their species over others. That's the least special thing about us.

what you learn from hobbies:
consistent practice opens up whole worlds of skill that you couldn't imagine
making mistakes in the process of learning is not only natural, it is also essential
activities that you enjoy can give you more energy back than you spent on them
wow everything is so expensive
