anthropology student thoughts #23
not me wanting to do ethnography in the sims. i would get my sims thru tons of daily life activities and i observe them; thing is, i'd make an anthropologist sim and let them observe the others. down below i am going to write some potential research goals
- the relationship between vampires & werewolves in the sims 4
instruments: literature review, interviews, participant observation
sociological paradigm: conflictualist
how i'd do this: make a household - the anthropologist, and two vampires and two werewolves. then i'd let the supernatural sims be like, autonomous while i control the anthropologist
- academic stress within university students in the sims 2 (or the sims 3, depends)
instruments: literature review, interviews, participant observation
sociological paradigm: functionalist
how i'd do this: play as the anthropologist and befriend the other sims, then i take their interviews. interactions such as "get to know them" or observing them in their natural habitat. they want to know how the sims cope with the academic stress and what they do
- tourists in isla paradiso & how they interact with the surroundings in the sims 3
instruments: literature review, participant observation, interviews
sociological paradigm: symbolic interactionism
how i'd do this: play as a hotel manager who's also an anthropologist; they seek to observe the tourists to see how they interact with the surroundings (i.e slide) - what do they use the most?
- celebrity culture in the sims 4 // the sims 3
instruments: literature review, participant observation, interviews
sociological paradigm: symbolic interactionism
how i'd do this: play as judith ward and enter the celebrity-only areas, then explore the activites these celebrities are engaging in the most. // make a new sim altogether in the sims 3 and they get into a singing or acting career, and then they'd talk to other celebrities; trying to get into the rhythm, yknow?
- clubs and get-togethers in the sims 4
instruments: literature review, participant observation, interviews
sociological paradigm: symbolic interactionism
how i'd do this: play as an anthropologist wanting to fit in windenburg. they would go to social clubs, DJ booths, coffee shops and notice how the sims interact with the space and each other.
this is good for like.. potential gameplays, but also, as an anthropology student, i see the potential for RESEARCH QUESTIONS!!!!
update: i havent actually done any of these ack, but theres still time, right?
