Okay. For my money, the entire thesis of Chris Nolan’s 2026 film The Odyssey is that society chokes and sputters and dies when we abuse, ignore, or violate social norms like the laws of hospitality. That is not really what The Odyssey (the book/poem) is about, but I can clearly see why in the horror that is the 2020s, someone could read The Odyssey and go oh my god that’s a lot of bad dropping in. That’s a lot of bad visits. That’s a clear vision of how the loss of social norms and cohesion fucks you up and how war, literal, brutal war, is a terrible wound that destroys your humanity and your understanding of what civilization and society is. I don’t know that the iteration of Greek society that ultimately birthed the poem would agree with Nolan’s take, but I think this movie is quite ideologically coherent, that Nolan knew exactly what he was trying to say with each and every adaptational change, and I think he wasn’t nuts for using one of the most famous classical western civilization works as a way to make that argument.

"lupita nyong'o can't be helen of troy because helen was greek and there weren't black people in ancient greece"
DO YOU THINK THESE MOTHERFUCKERS DIDNT HAVE BOATS. THIS ENTIRE MOVIE IS ABOUT ONE OF THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS AND HIS BOAT
As a European, we always had 'Moors', which we called black people
We also had Arab people that came here
Travel existed
"You hear that? They're saying The Odyssey doesn't even have nobody!"
"They've got nobody in the Odyssey?"
"No I'm saying they don't got nobody."
"Nobody's there?"
"Nobody's not there!"
"So everyone's there?"
"Everybody but nobody!"
the odyssey (2026)
#how long have we been holding on to this one?
I held onto this for six whole months. It was soooo hard waiting.

Canadian Nightmare
JESUS CHRIST WHO THE FUCK LET THAT EXIST
The Canadian regionalization DLC for Nyan Cat looks amazing.
This is nothing I wanted and yet everything I ever needed
Bless you Canada and your gigantic dinosaur snowplow monsters
Woo woo, motherfucker!
@a-mahariels-travels
Goddamned Mezolithic Megafauna’s what that is. Goddamned warranty expired on those things centuries ago, but do they care? Do they go decently extinct, like the ground sloth, gigantopethicus, or wooly rhino? Fuck that, they’re doing downhill runs on your favorite skiing course is what. Because Fuck it, is why.
Now I understand why moose are built the way they are.
It’s so they can gallop untrammelled through six-odd feet of snow.
Jesus Christ I read those mother fuckers could run 55km an hour but seeing it is another thing especially plowing through the snow
DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY
This is why I want a Fallout game set in Occupied Canada.
Because let’s be honest, deathclaws don’t have shit on moose and caribou
Incorrect sayings that I use so often I’ve almost forgotten that they’re not the originals:
I have bigger fish to fight
We’ll burn that bridge when we get to it
You can lead a horse to water, but if you drown it you have to walk home
Opening a can of whales
You made your bed, now shit in it
Combining the latter two into the phrase “you opened this can of whales, now lie in it”
"the early 2010s were better" no they weren't. "hey soul sister" was on the radio.
stereo. The way you move ain’t fair you know.
