@everschuylersisters
Btw, even if 'cc boundaries' were a good idea and in theory ought to be enforced, in practice that is an incredibly dangerous environment to create.
Let's think this through. If you tell your fandom to police what other fans make and inform you if someone is breaking your boundaries... and the main topics you ban are gore/sex/'mature' content... and a fairly large subset of your fans are teenagers/children....
what do you think is going to happen?
The answer is an army of children harrassing people on your behalf, while constantly exposing themselves to smut & gore. They will then either write callout posts to try to punish the creators (often reading/examining the content in-depth to do so) or sending the porn/gore/mature content directly to you (or older fans with more social clout who loudly proclaim their dedication to this fight¹) to deal with, in the name of protecting their fave.
To be clear, I have seen this happen before in other fandom contexts, it is not a theoretical outcome. And it is FAR far more dangerous than any story someone could write and post on AO3, or any art posted to Twitter.
This is an environment that will get kids/teenagers hurt, regardless of intention. It's the underpinning of why I'm so vehement about freedom of speech and creativity within fandom, because no matter what intentions are, the reality is that 'cc boundaries' create an environment that is extremely hospitable to abusers.
¹ Even if your intentions are pure as the driven snow, some of the adults who campaign vehemently for enforcing boundaries will inevitably be doing so because they are creeps who like exposing kids to nsfw content. The cleverer predators privately convince kids to RP/write/draw 'boundary breaking' content, which is then used as blackmail to ensure secrecy or else risk ostracization if they went public with the abuse. This is not a hypothetical.
Since as of this morning this is Pyro's stated goal:
I am going to reiterate: this is a recipe for children actively looking for porn and gore, and sending it to you. That is not hyperbole, or catastrophizing, it is a literal description of what will happen. This is not intended to be concern trolling or exaggeration; those outcomes are something I have seen happen in other communities with similar 'boundary' rules.
Can you please consider the danger to members of your community? Setting up a system like this is a recipe for a high-control, high-shame environment where things like coercion, blackmail, and grooming are extremely likely.

The Glendale Archives protagonist: “To admit that I don’t want to stop something that is hurting me…It opens me up for what I fear the most. Being abandoned. . . . But then again, how can I learn to accept these things if no one is around to witness it? How can I be accepted for it and prove the fear wrong if there’s no one there? I guess I’ll…just have to learn to accept it for myself.”

ok, i went and found pyro's statement from discord and i have concerns.
first, we're starting right off the bat we have proof that what people were worried about is correct: people are already finding fans to out to pyro. so you are going to have this fandom become a panopticon where keeping track of your fellow fans to turn them in is normal. and i would hope i don't have to explain why this is a bad thing.
second, he didn't back down on the wording at all. even if he doesn't mean to cause harassment, that's exactly what's going to happen (see above). fans are basically being rewarded for turning other fans in and the threats that he made which sparked harassment already still stand.
the whole issue is that instead of taking a reasonable stance on the issue that people like cleo have done, he's creating an environment that sews distrust among fans. because of not understanding what a boundary is. it is absolutely more than fair to block people you come across who are making you uncomfortable. it's fine to ask people not to do something with the understanding that if they do, you'll block them.
it's just not ok to spur this kind of attitude in fandom spaces while also not doing anything to keep yourself away from things you dislike, like blacklisting and blocking certain tags.
That person also asked whats going to happen, and he just tip toed around the question to say whats NOT gonna happen
That’s not the issue
The issue is the calls for harassment. The Minecraft community is known for many things and one of them is that we are not fucking chill if we think someone’s doing something wrong, we’re gonna fucking ruin their life. A creator actively saying they are going to survey and send people after people who break their rules instead of just blocking tags or banning people is wild
That is how people get hurt that is how people have been gotten hurt. It has already happened.
Please, please understand that
creators deserve to feel respected and heard, but they cannot control their community and they should not control their community. If something bothers you block or ban it. Fans deserve to feel safe in their own spaces
and creators should learn how to block things
Can we not do this again please? We’ve learned this before.
How many death threats do we think I’m gonna get?
dare I say that the concept of “boundaries” as it’s used in mcyt spaces is indicative of the poor understanding of consent many of these ccs have or are we going to keep pretending it’s acceptable to outright threaten your audience with targeted harassment if they don’t conform to your rules
transcript:
chatter: I'm choosing to read this as "don't @ me or send me content that makes me uncomfortable, and I won't go looking for it in spaces (like tumblr or w/e)."
pyro: um… if i hear about - i mean, i have - i have my little birds in all forests, and if i hear about, um, if i hear about repeated offenses, then, like, i will send my people after them. but, um… and i will, like, you know… deal with that, in the ways that i deem appropriate. but, um, there's obviously no way that i can fully stop it, but i really think that we as a community have a really good enough rapport to not have that happen.
Time to pull out the Cleo post
These newer(?) CCs need to learn what “don’t like don’t read” means I’m begging
I feel like pyro's statement is also (even if inadvertently) encouraging fans to police each other's creativity and just overall contributing to a very hostile fandom culture.

***HOTD S3 MINOR SPOILERS i try to describe the scenes I'm refering to as vaguely as I can***
my first afterthought is that Alicent is fucking evil the way she's so casual bout sentencing her two sons to die like xd whoever her children are it's disturbing to me to see her so determined and ready?? Like how can it be the same Alicent that attacked Rhaenyra after she refused to take any resposibiity for the fact Aemond lost and eye. That Alicent was able to kill her in front of EVERYONE for being so entitled, the same Alicent that was so afraid to rebel and protest forever!! AND NOW YOU WANNA TELL ME SHE DON'T BAT AN EYE encouraging Aemond to get himself into a trap she helped to build.
Untill s1e8 they had perfect arc for Alicent in the progress - her motifs, motivations, reasonings had such solid fundaments, but they BUTCHERED ALICENT AS A CHARACTER and ended up with something so weird. they had the story finished by grrm and they fucked it up anyway. that's an achivement, you must admit.
Also I FUCKING HATE the scene with Aemond WITH MY WHOLE HEART I wish I could erase it from memory and never see again. why. what for. who needed this. there was fortunately no vertical incest in the whole targaryen dynasty for a reason and it should have stayed that way. truly disgusting and weird and Helaena and Jahaera and I guess Daeron deserve better family I'm so fr 🤓🤓🤓🤓

loved this new interpretation of star. sm more fleshed out and the character design is soooo gorgeous too.
