Aw, the SpongeBob instagram just posted an ad for their Black Friday sale, that’s so cu – wait a minute
I –
Something that's amusing about the controversy over the Patrick Star show is that no matter your opinion of it. Love it or hate it. We can all agree Spongebob's got drip💦
it’s the little swirl. something about it fills me with both rage and adoration. whoever it was that thought of the little swirl deserves a raise
nothing is more beautiful than an unrelated wikipedia article when you have an assignment to do
hello book of mormon community (3 people)
who wants to talk about my spongebob timeline theory
ok last night i made this post without ever explaining what it meant so im going to clarify
i’ve noticed that the spongebob wiki has this fascination with trying to figure out the chronological order of events in episodes, despite the fact or even BECAUSE OF the fact that spongebob is a non-continuity cartoon where it’s not really in order, but we know that above all else, the first spongebob movie is at the end of everything. no matter what happens in the show, the first spongebob movie is the chronological end of all of it.
but let me propose a theory: what if it’s not the chronological end of every episode? you might ask yourself, how can this be? well my answer is relatively simple. there are multiple timelines that are explored through various episodes in which half of the episodes are lead-up to the first spongebob movie, but the other half lead-up to the second spongebob movie; there are multiple points in which the timelines would split further but these are the two main endings.
although i’m not sure about some specifics - such as whether the majority of the series is quite that uniform, and i’m not sure just where the series starts to split into various timelines … but i’m certain that after a certain point it does.
there are several factors in my favor with regards to this theory. some episodes just dont make sense in correlation to one another, no matter how you organize them and label them in chronological order. in some episodes, characters have changed radically. and there are factors that support the notion of multiple timelines!
for instance, in whirlybrains mr krabs and mrs puff have been dating for 16 years since krusty love - and the two did not know each other prior to krusty love. however there’s two episodes where they are familiar with one another, airing before whirlybrains, during that “16 years” they would have been dating, but have no interest in each other. one of which implies the two had a nasty breakup, and the other where they are familiar with one another but otherwise no implication of the events of krusty love ever having happened. likewise married to money also aired during those “16 years” they would have been dating, and mrs. puff was invited to krabs’ wedding with “cashina” … these are a combination of facts that are not compatible.
unless, of course, one subscribes to my multiple timeline theory. whirlybrains and krusty love exist in the same timeline, or a compatible timeline, but whirlybrains does not exist in the same timeline - or a compatible timeline - as married to money. there may be more examples of such timeline splits but these are the only ones i can go into detail with regards to off the top of my head.
the algae’s always greener supports the concept of multiple timelines, as the episode features an alternate timeline where plankton is the successful owner of the krusty krab and krabs is poor, naked, and in want of the secret formula accidentally created by the two disagreeing as children. friend or foe: trash bash, a game on the nick website also presents another possible alternate timeline where the two reconciled and are attempting to reconstruct the krabby patty secret formula together. and issue 6 of the spongebob comics confirms the notion of multiple timelines and universes in the spongebob setting, giving an entire story about the exploration of multiple timelines and universes. one of which includes an alternate turn of events where instead of rivals, plankton and krabs work at a bakery called the “cookie bucket” together.
so instead of trying to figure out a strict, linear, a to z progression of episodes in regards to the spongebob timeline, i feel as though the spongebob wiki should be trying to figure out where the timeline/s would split and which timelines which episodes reside in.
after having seen the spongebob musical twice i must revive this post to inform the masses that the musical’s mere existence supports my theory as not only does it reuse the internal conflicts of the spongebob squarepants movie and the episodes bossy boots and sponge-cano! - but does so in such a way that it cannot coexist in the same timeline as those episodes or the movie, no matter where you place it chronologically. i’m still not sure what determines or causes the major splits in the timeline like this, or what causes these discrepancies.
the most likely answer is that there are various causes for each timeline split, summarized by the timeline branching out with multiple micro-splits - or branches - for every possible outcome in any internal conflict of an episode … each branching out only to ultimately lead up to a handful of main, recurring outcomes … in such a manner that they can be as such referred to as “the main timelines” … such as the spongebob squarepants movie, sponge out of water, and the spongebob musical … with each being the major staples of the franchise at the moment.
its entirely possible that the timeline branches out earlier than proposed in my original post - perhaps right from the beginning of the series - yet with each timeline branching out yet blending together, or braiding like vines, in such a way that it is not entirely clear which episode belongs to which timeline just yet, until they approach a specific point in time closer and close (ergo, the “main timeline” outcomes) … so the timeline probably would most likely, at this point, resemble a trident - if you will - at this point, assuming that these minor splits braid around each other, before splitting, and then braiding together again
i’m sorry, class, do you follow?

Which resident of Bikini Bottom is the best gay representation?
patrick is without a doubt the epitome of gay. fat, happy, nipples out and free like he is, unabashedly pink, in happy polyamourous love with spongebob but never tied down; definitely visits the bikini bottom bathhouse with pockets full of condoms on the regular. he forgot who his actual parents are (ideal) and mistook another pair of heterosexuals for his parents as if heteros are interchangeable (camp). he has eschewed even a traditional home in exchange for living under a rock, a symbol of his rejection of the sick cishetero culture and its values. and let us not forget his engagement with underground queer erotic mystical healing practices
--he is a suds doula, a leather daddy, a dom vers, and an icon!
Hey if a guy's leitmotif starts building up again but this time it's got like a church choir chanting in Latin it's because he's decided to cool it and be friends right
I'm going to throw a stone at a hornet's nest and say that the TERFs who like to claim Alison Bechdel as one of their own lack basic reading comprehension—and worse still, they lack shame.
There's an actual, honest-to-goodness, authentic, genuine strip of Dykes to Watch Out For in which Mo gets called out for her transphobia when she whines about sharing a restroom with a trans woman. Moreover, she then becomes the victim of bathroom policing herself, because butch women don't fit the cis-hetero-normative mold. It's all right there in the text, plain as day.
Just because Bechdel is a butch lesbian, and prefers that identity over "trans man" or "nonbinary," doesn't mean that she rejects the theory and rhetoric that produced those labels. That's child logic.
Cherry-picking her work to support their bigotry, just so they can claim lineage from a distinguished queer writer, is not only stupid and easily debunked, but it's deeply insulting. It betrays how little TERFs actually care about LGBTQ rights, feminism, or literature.
Any so-called "radfems" interacting with this post will be blocked—thereby cleaning up the "Alison Bechdel" tag for my browsing, so I don't have to wade through a bunch of bigotry every time I scroll through it. Thank you in advance. ❤️
Also, Leslie Feinberg commissioned this comic for Transgender Warriors. I'm too tired to go get my copy from my office and take a picture of it (and all my doodles and notes in the margins), so you'll just have to trust me.
It is now Sea Slug Saturday.
