the archivist wouldn't feed on alice because she'd already told her domain statement but it was coming back to get a fourth story from sam, this one about some spooky bullshit that happened before he even got his proper introduction to the horrors. how haunted can one man be. he's just some guy and for no apparent reason The Thing That Is Fear has been periodically putting him in situations since he was five. this poor blighter both has a serious un-chosen one complex and has been repeatedly Chosen for low-level supernatural menacing for his entire life. it's like dread keeps thinking "hmm that one was kind of alright, how about another go... actually nah not that tasty, put him back. unless..."

I gotta say, TMagP is really making me appreciate the built-in infrastructure that the Institute provided for the Archives. What do you MEAN, you don't have an Artefact Storage?? The only other department supporting your work, the one that went out and Responded to things, so you could just do paperwork, got disbanded YEARS ago?? You don't have a boss to give you a measly inch of support as far as a job description??

I thought the Archives were flying blind, but good lord. Magnus ran a much tighter ship than I gave him credit for. At least when people died at work, everyone knew when and why it happened.

Also, let's be clear: when Jon got promoted (very specifically because he couldn't do the job well), he KNEW he was unqualified and made himself a support system of his two best friends, including the one person who should have been promoted. When Gwen got shady BLACKMAIL from her EVIL WORK COMPUTER, she said, "Great! Let's commit a crime to get my boss's job that I don't know or understand!" One of these people is significantly more rational about their expectations for their work, and it's UNBELIEVABLE that it's Jon.
