Do Good Recklessly
protect em dashes.
protect ânot x, not y, but zâ format.
protect short sentence stacking as a stylistic choice.
protect fanfic writersâwho are kind enough to share their works with people to read for freeâfrom ai witch hunts, speculations and accusations.
âdonât like donât readâ also applies to any fic that is ai-generated and any fic you think is ai-generated by the way. if you donât like what youâre reading for any reason, you can always stop reading and exit the fic at any point. but harassment is never ever justified. no matter if you think youâve found a noble excuse to do it. and alsoâŚ
witch hunts, speculations and accusations harm the writing community as much as ai does. if not more. I donât want to see another innocent writer get driven away from the community because someone decides to harass and accuse them for using ai just because their fic happens to have âai telltalesâ â the same telltales ai got from having been trained on millions of human-made works to mimic how real humans actually write.

i just saw a post encouraging various fanfiction habits (like going through bookmarks, leaving comments, etc.), saying they're not weird, don't worry, keep fanfiction culture alive! and i totally agree with the sentiment, but i also want to add:
fanfiction is weird. writing it is weird, reading it is weird, gushing about it to your friends is weird! it's a weird hobby, it wasn't even that long ago that most people wouldn't dare mention it to real-life acquaintances, and in some circles it can STILL have social consequences to admit. many people don't spend hours of their day thinking about The Character, or putting blorbo in a blender, or imagining themselves in fantastical situations.
BE WEIRD! unlearn shame! you share the proud tradition of a weird subculture defined by love and passion and community--one that goes back decades, if not more. embrace the weird and stop letting fear of being shamed get in the way of what YOU enjoy. be weird!!
idk who needs to hear this but itâs healthier for you to just accept that youâre gonna be kinda fat than it is to live the rest of your life miserably trying to monitor yourself to maintain a skinny weight your body doesnât want to hold onto
ânothing tastes as good as skinny feelsâ what feels even better is living a life where your self-worth isnât entirely dependent on your thinness and you donât constantly monitor and shame yourself. attaching the tweet that was worth at least five hours of therapy for me
Nothing isn't impossible. I do it regularly!
Having food sensitivities is so annoying! I assure you, being a picky eater isn't fun. It's frustrating.
My love of puns came from my dad. It's a case of ne-pun-tism... I'll see myself out.
People who think sheep are killed for their wool are so hilarious to me. Does your barber slit your throat whenever you get a haircut?? Are you a returning customer to Sweeney Todd? Lmao it grows back, fools.
This is completely ignoring the fact that the sheep's soul is stored in its wool. So sure, the body remains, but the spirit, the essence of the sheep, that's gone forever, and then as the wool regrows a new soul moves in.
Same for me, I get a new soul with every haircut. That's why my personality changes so much.
Tumblr citizenship means being completely unsure if the person posting about sheep souls is being 100% serious or is just taking the piss.
THEY TAKE THEIR PISS TOO?!?!?
Yup, stockpiling it in giant buckets to pour on the poor
Ive said this before but swear the biggest skill to learn as an adult is how to resist high-pressure sales tactics. You do NOT have to answer questions with anything other than "Sorry I'm not interested." No matter how nice they are or no matter how many follow up questions they ask or even how agitated they get when you stand your ground. Just keep saying I'm not interested. Don't answer their questions. Don't give them an opening to try to push back on your reasons. Be a fucking brick wall of I'm not interested.
When we bought our car, I told Sean to let me handle it. I walked in and said "We have X for a down payment and cannot pay more than Y in monthly payments." My Y number had some leeway, but I didn't mention that.
First thing the sales guy did after I laid down the rules was turn to Sean and go, "What's your number?" And Sean said. "Oh, no, you negotiate with Gayle."
So, strike one for the sales guy. Could not divide and conquer us by implying THE MAN would not surprised at what I laid down.
Sales guy then had to confer with his manager and left us at his desk for several minutes. I have a vague recollection (this was 16 years ago) of Sean and I amusing ourselves doing bits about the other people there to look at cars. I am sure we did not give off the stressed or nervous energy they were hoping for.
Guy comes back. His first offer is fifty dollars a month more than I told him we could pay. I looked at him and said "I gave you our upper limit."
"Well, but what's another 50 bucks a month?"
"Something I can't afford."
He didn't know what to do with my open and unashamed admittal that I had a budget because my money was finite.
He went back to talk to the manager again.
It took two more rounds of "I told you what I can afford" before he finally came back 20 bucks under what I'd stated as my max.
The trick to resisting high-stress sales tactics is doing the math at home, knowing exactly what you can afford, and then walking into the room and stating that number minus 15%. Then refusing to budge from that number. Never, ever, meet then where they want. Always meet them where you want. Because at the end of the day, you can walk away and go somewhere else and say "I told the people at Z what my terms were, and they refused to work with me. Here are my terms. Meet them, and you make a sale today."
I have been a salesperson. I tried very hard to make a living selling life insurance. I read all the books and failed many, many more times than I succeeded. In the end, I went into education, where the sales pitch is much more agreeable (do your homework and I'll give you a better grade).
Lemme tell you that sales people are like the fae folk in the old tales.
They are beholden to the magic number 3. Refuse a sales pitch three times and they are trained to give up. They are trained in many ways to "redirect a refusal", but three refusals means it's time for them to give up.
They cannot enter your home without your permission. But once given in any form, permission is tough to claw back.
They truly fear a failed deal. Sale folk feed on the magic of forging contracts. If they cannot meet their quota, they will starve.
Their deals are never symmetrical. Somehow, it's always weighted in their favor, usually in inscrutable ways.
Lemme tell you that
sales people are like the fae
folk in the old tales.
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Forever if you ask.
