*LOKI’S POV*
My hand gripped her throat and I lifted her off the ground. “Why are you always in my way?”
Covered in wounds, bathed in her own blood, she was worn from battle. Her hands tried to claw at mine, weakly protesting.
“Because...it’s...the...right...thing.” The Princess managed to choke out.
“Thanos wants you dead. He promised me that I’d have all the power I desire.”
“I will...not stand...alone...against him.”
“But you’ll die alone.”
Using my other hand, I took one of my daggers and ran it through her chest. I let her fall to the ground.
My entire body was trembling at the sight of what I had done.
It wasn’t right. There was no way that I had done it.
This wasn’t real.
The scene before me had shifted until there was nothing. Then a voice hit my ears.
“I loved her even more than you do.”
I turned to see a beautiful woman, her appearance made me dig through old memories to identify her. It took me a moment to realize that it was y/n’s mother.
“..Why..?”
“Why what, Your Highness?”
“WHY WOULD YOU SHOW ME THAT?!” I roared, lunging for the seer.
She simply disappeared and appeared behind me, I turned to face Mengloth.
“That was just one of the outcomes of her future when I met you those many years ago.”
“I would never!”
“The person you are now would never, but there was a possibility that you would have. There was always two paths. The one where you only grew to hate her more after she arrived in Asgard and the one where you would only love her more as time went by. When you decided that she was irreplaceable in your heart, some outcomes faded. That one was one of them. When you decided to run after her in the forest that night it sealed the fate of the fairies. The king of the fairy forest knew it, yet he sent his only beloved daughter to Asgard anyways, to keep her safe.”
She smiled warmly. “My daughter was destined for great things, in all of the outcomes for her future. The thing that had me terrified was that she would die in almost all of them.”
I paled and my breaths became erratic.
“What do you mean?”
“She would most definitely be the key to ending the war that is to come. Her father and I both knew it. I was so desperate to know more that I had broken the only rule handed down to the seers. I went searching so far into the future that I could not handle all of the variables. I saw so many of her futures at once that it had broken my heart as well as my mind. The farther she gets in life the more those outcomes become clearer while others fade.”
“How do I prevent her death?” I desperately pleaded with the goddess.
“I have shown my daughter all the possibilities. She knows what’s to come.”
She knew? For how long? This woman was so warm, how could she be this calm? How could she even stand on her own feet knowing that y/n could die?
“How do I prevent it?” My voice shook with the sheer force it took to keep myself from shouting.
“What if I told you that if you played an active role in trying to protect her that the galaxy itself would be put in peril?” The woman cocked an eyebrow at me.
“I would gladly sacrifice the galaxy if it meant that she would survive.”
“Ah. What a selfish love. Would y/n feel the same?”
I knew she wouldn’t. There was a reason she had not told me that she had been seeing her own death, that she still progressed forward despite it.
So lovely, so brave and kind. Y/n would definitely risk her own life for the safety of the realms.
“What do you care? You stole her wings before she could even defend herself.” I spat.
“I did it because I wanted to protect her. Make her less identifiable.”
“...She was never a seer. You’ve been filling her head with visions for years now. Does she even know that it’s you?”
“No. But she knows that she isn’t a seer. The visions of the past do not fall under their power. She needed to know to move forward in her journey.”
“She hasn’t slept... in years.” My tone had started to grow menacing. “You’ve plagued her with horrific thoughts-“
“I think we’re done here.” She waved her hand and without another word sent me on my way.
I sat bolt upright in bed, the darkness only dense enough obscure my vision slightly.
A whimper and small jolts in the mattress was the only thing that alerted me to y/n’s presence was still next to me.
I watched her for a moment, flinching and trembling, curled up at the edge of the bed and her back facing me.
Another vision. Did she spend every night witnessing her own countless deaths?
Moving over so that I was once again pressed against her bare back, our skin on skin contact making mine flush. My lips trailed her warm shoulder and up her neck until they rested near her ear. My fingertips traced up and down her arm soothingly. “Please wake up, my love.”
She was always a deep sleeper, but now I knew that it was because she actually managed to fall asleep quite rarely.
I started to run my fingers through her long tangled hair. “I wish you’d be more selfish, quit trying to sacrifice yourself for others.”
Her breathing became more erratic.
I shook her slightly. “Wake up.”
A sharp gasp had her curling into herself and her eyes wide with horror before I spoke.
“Shh. Shh. I’m here with you.” I cooed.
Before she had started to speak I continued. “I’m going to protect you. Please stay away from Thanos.”
“Loki-“ Her voice trembled.
“I’ve seen it too. I can’t lose you.”
“I can’t stand idly by while other sacrifice their lives to save the world.”
“I know.” I sighed.
“It might not end with my death.” She tried to make light of the situation.
“That doesn’t make me feel any better.”
She turned in my arms and placed her head on my unclothed chest, listening to my heartbeat.
“What can I do to ease your mind?”
“Other than staying out of this war and let the others fight against the Mad Titan?”
“Yes... other than that.”
There was only one thing I’ve ever wanted from this girl, and that was her herself.
“Odin is gone. Thor can abolish your engagement..”
“Yeah?” She already knew that it would happen and was offended that it had taken me this long to figure out this information.
“Marry me?”
“Why would that help you?”
“Because I’ll forever be bound to your heart. In this life and the next. Marry me, my love?”
“O-okay, but the only one on this ship that has the power to do so is your brother.”
I smiled so widely that my cheeks had started to hurt, I could have leapt out of our bed in joy had it not been for that girl wedged between my arms.
“Don’t worry.” I said as I reached under a pillow and brought out one of my daggers to hand over to her.
She stared at me with confused eyes. “And here I was just thinking you were happy to see me.”
“Ha. Ha... In Asgard an engagement will start with a ring then the groom would give a family sword to their bride to pass them protection. It’s no sword but it-”
“So this is why you told me never to accept a sword from Thor all those years ago?” She questioned, taking the blade from me.
“Yes.”
“So you wanted me then?” She smirked.
“Ever since you walked into the library and looked at those shelves with amazement. Never stopped since.”
“My brother, I request something of you.” I asked slowly, standing before him in his room on the refugee ship.
Thor had a lost look on his face. “...Yes?..”
I took a knee to the ground and crossed my right fist over my chest before bowing deeply to him, a great blow to my pride.
My voice was low, spoken through gritted teeth. “I request that you end the engagement between you and the princess and allow me to take her hand.”
It felt like hours that I was looking at my shoes before I heard him let out his breath.
“No... I won’t allow you to hurt her any further.”
“Of course.” I stood, pulling my hair back from my eyes.
“That’s it? You’re not going to argue? Not going to storm off, yelling about how you will steal her and the crown?”
“It’s as you said. I’ve hurt her, I don’t dare to dream that I would ever deserve her. I have to prove myself better.”
I held my palm out towards him, making the Tesseract appear, urging him to take it from me.
His tensions were building up quickly. “Loki... why do you have the Tesseract?”
“I’m just trying to do something right. Take it before I change my mind.”
He cautiously picked up the blue glowing cube, shifting his gaze from it to me. Thor raised his eyebrows.
I turned, ready to accept my defeat, and reached for the door.
“All of this... for her?”
“It always has been.”
“If...” he paused trying to find the right words to say. “If it is what the princess desires as well, I will approve. Know that I will be watching and if you so much as think about betraying her again I will show you no mercy.”
I tensed up, unable to speak.
“Well? That’s my condition.”
“...Thank you... Brother.”
*NORMAL POV*
Bruce, Loki, Thor and I stood in the room designated for the King.
“This is wonderful news! Shall we start planning the grand wedding... and the feast!” Thor gasped suddenly. “I do love a good feast.”
“Woah. Woah. Woah. What’re you talking about?” I chimed in.
“Shouldn’t there be an engagement period before she rushes into something like this?” Bruce asked worriedly.
“Well it is the wedding of the Prince of Asgard and the Queen of the Fey. It has to be spectacular.”
“I thought that’s what we were all doing in here? Bruce can be witness as you marry us.”
“Please don’t drag me into this.” Bruce’s voice was meek.
“...But surely Loki would rather see you in a beautiful gown and show you to the-“
“Brother, she’s always pretty. Its a well established fact among the people. I’d prefer you to make her mine sooner rather than later.” Loki spoke, unfolding his crossed arms.
“It’s true.” Bruce nodded uncomfortably.
“But it would be so great for morale. Everyone seems to be in a saddened mood.”
We all just stood there and gazed at the new king questionably.
“Yes. Thor. The people are sad, their home was just destroyed by Surtur.” I said slowly.
“Fine.” He huffed, throwing a small fit. “Do you have a chord?”
“A chord?” I asked.
“Here.” Loki’s voice chimed. I watched as he reached into his pocket and produced a golden ribbon. One I had surely seen before.
He saw that I was trying to figure out why it was dancing on the edge of my memory. “It fell out of your hair the night I chased you into the forest on Asgard. It was the only thing that led me to you. Despite your clumsiness, you were very difficult to locate.”
I stared at him. “And you kept it? All these years? After all the pain that night had brought?”
“I refuse to let any memory of you go.” He handed the ribbon to his brother before holding his hand out to me.
I placed my hand on top of his and looked to Thor before nodding my approval. He started to wrap the ribbon around our joined hands.
“In life there are many bonds we form as we grow and change into the people we are meant to become. From parents to siblings.” Thor looked pointedly at his brother before shifting his gaze to me.
“To our friends. Our fellow warriors and even our enemies. We form bonds with our homes and our surroundings. I’ve had the honor of watching your bond form. From hate to friendship to enduring heartbreak and now to this.”
He finished tying Loki’s hand to mine and looked at us with a smile. “These are the ties that bind you, in this life and into the next. Today your souls have come together and formed a bond that not even the universe can destroy. Loki. Y/n. As king... As someone who loves you both dearly, I bind you together. From this day until-“
Thor didn’t have the chance to finish his words before Loki suddenly lunged forward and kissed me.
“I love you.” He kept mumbling against my lips.
I smiled. “I love-“ ***
Thanos stood tall, the infinity gauntlet, now missing a couple of stones, proudly displayed on his hand. Bodies of the Avengers laid still on the ground by his feet.
Tired and bloody, Steve, Tony and Thor stood up once again.
“ONLY THREE STONES LEFT! GET ME THE GAUNTLET!” I screamed, using all of my strength to disintegrate the green time stone.
I didn’t know whether or not I’d have enough in me to destroy them all.
“You got it, sweetie!” Iron man still had his trademark confidence while he charged the Mad Titan followed by Thor and the Captain.
Thanos snatched the metal man out of the sky and snapped his spine with little effort. He had a harder time killing cap and finally he had extinguished Thor’s life.
I had no time left. The time stone still hadn’t been destroyed when Thanos came after me.
His large hand ended up clasped around my throat and lifted me off the ground.
“You don’t... scare.. me... You need me... alive... to create more... stones.” I struggled to put my words out.
“I just need your blood.”
His hand around my throat twisted and I fell the ground in a heap by his feet.
I was thrown violently out of my vision when Loki’s arms wrapped around me. “Whatever you saw, we will face it together.”
