My psychiatry professor says individuals with a higher IQ when children must be stimulated to develop it further or else they are more susceptible to develop anxiety and depression and also “falling off the curve”. And since as a child you can’t control the circumstances of your development, I’m sad to inform that your family and society have failed you.

The school system’s general method for giving gifted kids the necessary stimulation is to punish them for reading ahead, doodling or being distracted in class, doing math problems a different way, or basically anything else that provides some additional amusement along with the constant monotony of lessons that are too easy for the child. In this way, the child learns that they are supposed to ignore and suppress their talents unless they are directly useful to teachers and future employers. That they are supposed to operate at the exact level of everyone else in the class or face consequences.

The school system was made for neurotypical children of average intelligence with little space for deviation. Anyone who doesn’t fit into its ideal mold leaves damaged.
