If you want a long con...
It’s been 17 years since I moved out of my parent’s house. My mom STILL likes to pretend I am the reason their house is ‘full of junk.’ For 17 years she has boxed things up she’s hoarded, giving them to me because they are ‘mine.’ My sister moved cross country 3 years ago, leaving an ENTIRE bedroom ceiling to floor full of things, and STILL she’ll call me saying ‘I have to give your stuff’ And it will be 3 pieces of junk mail. JUNK MAIL. Today she made a point to bundle up a random book with some generic mail advertisements and hide it in a fridge she coaxed me into taking off their back porch. The entire ride home I bitched about it to my boyfriend, and he suggested I take the book back and randomly hide it in their house. But that wouldn't be enough. So I went online and found the EXACT same book. In 5 days, I will have 5 copies of this book to hide in each and every room of their house. And it will probably take her 5 years to find all of them. It only cost me $17. And I’m not sorry.
Barnes and Nobles is gonna start serving food and alcohol.
Everybody’s cracking jokes about how it’s a desperate attempt to stay relevant in the age of Amazon.
But you know what? Props to them. This is exactly what Blockbuster didn’t do. At no point was Blockbuster like “Hey, movie rentals aren’t the lucrative enterprise they once were. Perhaps it’s time we become known for our cheesy garlic bread.”
Okay but…if someone wants to take me on a date to a Barnes and noble and get me dinner and a drink and then let me peruse the stacks like I’m not saying no. A sandwich, a beer, and 2-5 books on various topics I hope I’ll someday read about? Good night.
The Swedish equivalent of Blockbuster is now best known for its candy, snacks and sodas.
This is El Ateneo Grand Splendid, an old theatre turned bookstore in Buenos Aires:
The stage itself was turned into a cafe:
You can’t even begin to comprehend the massive amounts of money this place makes, despite the fact that they turned the theatre boxes into reading nooks like this:
I’ve literally spent days holed up in there reading books for free while also consuming massive amounts of coffee and pastries.
Adapt or die, people.
Take me to Buenos freaking Aires… Leave me in this bookshop… Never look for me, you will not find me again.

The Computer Room is such a weird concept nowadays but growing up in the 90s/00s we really had a whole ass room dedicated to our computer. Anthropologists 1000 years from now are gonna think we worshiped computers so much we had shrine rooms for them
in 2009 florence welch said “leave all your love and your longing behind, you can’t carry it with you if you want to survive” and in 2018 she said “the loneliness never left me, i always took it with me, but i can put it down in the pleasure of your company” and that is growth
“Life is an increasingly overwhelming experience.”

New favorite dynamic: best friends who are very intelligent and highly capable in their fields when they’re alone, but when they’re together they’re idiots
Bonus:
i leave my house for coffee and nothing else.
