I used to draw a lot, but I got disillusioned so I stopped. Now Iām trying to get back to drawing, one disproportionate human at a time. Iāve been doing my research (reading Wikipedia articles on March of The Falsettos, Falsettoland, and In Trousers and some of the lines just caught me off guard by how ridiculous they sounded. Figured Iād share:
the year is 2035. the new beauty standard is for women to cut their ears off, as ears are a masculine trait which make the face look too big and hearing isnt necessary as it doesnt align with being demure. evil feminists say perhaps this is unnecessary and ears are natural. women are agressively proclaiming they are cutting their ears off due to sensory issues
This is great satire, but sometimes I genuinely think my life would be easier being hard of hearing due to my horrible sensory issues surrounding noise.
In defense (sort of) of Christian Borleās Marvin:
While I do prefer Micheal Rupertās Marvin, I do think that Christian Borle showed the struggle that he was going through more visibly with how irritable he was and some of the tension with him and Jason. Also, I find that thereās more of a change between Act 1 and Act 2 with Christian Borleās Marvin showing how he had grown as a person with the time he spent with Charlotte and Cordelia and away from Whizzer to reflect. I felt like some of the emptiness that you talked about came across to me as more numbness or slight regret. I do however wholeheartedly agree that Micheal Rupertās Marvin feels more ārealā as you stated, but seeing the ārougherā version of Marvin that Borle depicted felt more real in the sense that a person dealing with that much turmoil wouldnāt exactly be a ball of sunshine. This rougher, meaner version of Marvin also feels slightly more in line with how Marvin is portrayed when heās younger in In Trousers (take that with a grain of salt as I just listened to In Trousers and I am still formulating my opinions and analysis on it). Rupertās Marvin is more charismatic and ārealā, but to me Borleās Marvin almost deals more realistic if that makes sense. I still prefer Micheal Rupertās Marvin for a variety of reasons.
My knee-jerk reaction is to disagree with everything you say, but let me finish re-listening to the revival before I respond.
I appreciate your feedback. I agree with many of your takes, but I do think that there are some aspects of Christian Borleās performance that are quite good.
Iām strongly considering making some sticker or at the very least designing some for fandoms that I really like (itās mostly gonna be falsettos). I havenāt designed stickers in years and when I did it wasnāt for anything I enjoyed, it was for an organization that needed them for events and wanted to pay me to make some designs and get a fraction of the sales. Not sure if Iād sell them. Giving away stickers to cool people is fun, but if theyāre fandom specific it can be hard to spot fans in the wild. If I make some designs, iāll post them!
