I need you to understand something. The term "troll" in the context of online interaction isn't about mythical beings under bridges, it refers to the fishing practice of "trolling" where you cast your net or long lines and putter along, reeling in what you catch.

Internet "trolls" on USENET, therefore, were people just throwing out offensive garbage trying to get a rise out of people, and we had to teach each new wave of users, "just ignore them, they literally just want to make you mad."

Ie: "Don't feed the trolls."

"So what?" you ask? So, frankly, I've been online since the term was created. Sugar, you can't troll me. You won't bump my blood pressure or shift my heart rate. The most you'll get is me maybe deciding to play with you – not as an equal, no. Oh, ghu no lol. No, think more, "chew toy that quickly loses its flavor". You're a momentary distraction, a short diversion while I'm bored.

Frankly, most of these trolls can't even give my wit a decent work out. The trolls of old, they were good – some of them at least. If you threw down you could expect at least passable rhetoric and repartee. If you liked arguing, they could at least be useful.

But you fucking children, these days? Ah, well. What do I expect from a bunch of shitlings that use ChatGPT to stroke their ego?

Just saw a whole blog that was 90% arguing that “queer” is a slur and has never and will never be reclaimed (and if you identify as queer you are destroying LGBT rights). The other 10% was talking about how free verse poetry is the same as literal human shit.

I cannot imagine being that miserable all the time.

the thing that will have to be planned for is both tectonic movement and the expansion and contraction of the bridge sections. That is why this bridge will need to have a bunch of ramps and gaps between sections that every vehicle going across will get to do sick jumps off of.

This will also prevent traffic from slowing down. "minimum speed to make next jump: 120 km/h" signs will encourage everyone to go fast, even if the engineers are being a little conservative for safety reasons.

when I was maybe 8 or so, I thought it would be extremely chic to have a regular poker game, so I rounded up all my friends in the neighborhood and taught them how to play. none of us had actual money but we made bets with pocket change from the couch. the fact that I had no idea how to play poker didn’t stop us. I made up rules and figured if I acted confident enough nobody would question me. nobody did! we had a great time!

everyone i've talked to about this has been completely unaware so: if you didn't know already, there's going to be a solar eclipse, with totality or coverage of 90% or more in some places, over a lot of europe, on august 12th 2026. in the uk it will start just after 6pm, and the maximum will be at 7:13pm.
