I could be wrong, but given Dorian and Chetney's experiences and what Dominox causes people to do, I think it's more complicated than just "insecurities" but specifically insecurity and guilt over one's actions: Chetney's fears surrounding the harm he did before gaining a measure of control over his powers, and Dorian's belief he is responsible for his brother's death. Dominox is the Grand Demon of Loathing, after all: it's specifically fears about not being enough/not being a good person. So I think it will be less about losing people in the present, and more about (self-perceived) harm done in the past and I'm excited - I think there's still a lot we haven't seen from people's backstories.
