Adjusted value of Bees. Now that was a special one… because every item in the game had a minimum value, and a beehive was a container for bees, which each had a minimum value… which meant the moment one of your dwarves picked up a beehive, your entire fortress’ net worth skyrocketed… a value used in determining how powerful the foes that visit and try to murder you are.

I think a lot of people would benefit from unlearning the idea that casual sex is inherently disgusting, harmful, or immoral just because they personally don’t want to partake in it. You can stand up for sexual safety and consent without acting like people who enjoy fucking strangers are degenerates. I take no issue with anyone asserting boundaries or stating that they’re not interested in certain kinds of sex or even sex as a whole. But when you condemn or express disgust at others for engaging in consensual sex, that’s when you start to sound like a puritan.

You there 🫵 GM who's down to run some short-form horror mystery stuff. Just trust me and pick yourself up a copy of Eureka Investigative Urban Fantasy and the Foriva: The Angel Game module and run it for your group. You can also get both of those items (and a bunch of other cool stuff) from the publisher's Patreon for not too much money.

I've been running a lot of different short modules for a lot of different systems lately, and FORIVA has had one of if not the best impacts on my group, and it took some of the least effort to prep for. I'm loathe to spoil the actual plot here, but you're basically looking at a module that does a great job of setting up characters with personal stakes in investigating a series of missing kids, then uses those personal stakes in some really clever ways. The module does bring in some themes of psychological horror that are worth making sure will work for your group, but those themes also do lead to some really evocative gameplay and writing.

Tiny Table also did a really strong playthrough of the module if you'd like to see it in motion before committing to running it.

I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while they’re growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). Being loyal to someone means you'll follow them even when they're wrong. If you only follow them as long as they're right, you're not loyal, you're just being reasonable, and basing your decisions on your own sense of morality. empires needing loyalty to the empire itself, otherwise the population might side with another empire, or go for independence

nation-states needing loyalty to the nation, so that they can effectively oppress, expel, or eliminate everyone else

and gangs (this includes states) needing cohesiveness to protect their turf from other gangs

have produced a GIGANTIC trove of literature, art, law, philosophy etc that paints loyalty as a virtue, often the ultimate virtue.

Some good reasons to accept this at face value momentarily are:

to immerse yourself in fiction and enjoy it

to feel strong feelings

to put yourself in the shoes of the many real people that fell for this in the past, and so to better understand them and the societies that produced them

to put yourself in the shoes of the many real people that are falling for this as we speak, and so to better understand them and be more equipped to argue against this deeply conservative narrative

There are… no good reasons to accept this at face value for longer than that.

Now mind you, I'm not saying "don't be loyal to anyone". I'm not in the business of urging people to be virtuous here. I'm saying, if you are loyal to someone, accept it for what it is and don't pretend you deserve a medal. Own your crimes. Revel in your transgressions, even.

After all, I, too, would help my buddy hide the body. I'm just not pretending that's a good and moral thing.

I see a lot of nobles out here who think "Well I have a 10,000 square foot castle, surely that's enough space for a knight." WRONG. Knights are WORKING BREEDS, they need to go on regular quests to prove their fealty and come home horribly wounded. I have seen SO MANY adopted knights DESPONDENT because their liege keeps them cooped up in a castle and won't let them go on quests. If you want an armored warrior who will be happy in your castle you need to get a castellan. They're closely related to the knight breed but adapted to the castle environment.
