unfortunately very true. Doing Better does not always mean never being upset or never being triggered or never having trouble. often Doing Better means experiencing those things and being able to keep going/cope healthily/move on. if youāre in a bubble with no sensation, if youāre numbing yourself out, thatās not what recovering really is. it wonāt help you have a happier life itāll just make your world smaller and smaller until you canāt fit anywhere anymore. gotta learn to make peace with the hard stuff too, thatās the only way to keep going

thereās a t-shirt that says āI survived a bad day and all I got was the rest of my lifeā and yeah I still think about it
I feel like half the time I'm like: "Yeah, I'm completely fine and used to this"
And the other half the time I'm: "I am slowly being torn apart and I cannot do anything about it, so I grieve myself and what I wish I could do."

Glen Martin Taylor, ābut iām safe in here.ā
(snaps out of it) OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING!! HOLY JESUS CHRIST FUCK WHY DID NOBODY TRY TO STOP ME (eases back into it) ahhhh. yeah this feels right
What helped me write trauma better is remembering that the nervous system learns predictions. If danger used to come after quiet, calm can feel threatening. If kindness used to come with a price, kindness can feel suspicious. So healing is not just āthey know theyāre safe now.ā Healing is the slow, annoying, deeply unfair process of teaching the body that the old prediction is not always the present truth.

Some hope and comfort today. š The pain and struggle *will* fade one day, and youāll be left with growth and learning.
