Even with federal grants largely restored, scientists say the Trump administration is still preventing those funds from reaching them. The c
Standing in his laboratory, Harvard professor Sean Eddy gazes at a row of vacant work stations. More than a year ago, this lab was filled with over a dozen researchers. On a given day they might be working independently on analyzing genomic sequencing or gathered around the group table, drinking coffee and helping each other troubleshoot questions about genomic data from different species.
Now, after his funding was terminated under the Trump administration, the computer screens are gone and the room is silent. He's one of the last people left.
" Seeing these labs empty — this is not the way it's supposed to be," he says. "This was a very vibrant lab."
Yesterday, on 2.07.2026, approximately at 2:20 AM a russian missile exploded right next to my flat.
I woke up with glass shards all around me and a door from another room that collided with mine, almost barricading me inside my bedroom. Every window and door in the apartment was blown out by the explosion. My family's car burned to the crisp. The entrance door of the flat was stuck and people have spent 40 minutes trying to break it open with hammers and axes.
Despite great material damage, miraculously, me and my family wasn't injured. Even my laptop and drawing tablet have somehow survived, despite being left right by the window. And, thankfully, I have another place to go to, where I'll be living full-time from now on.
The only thing I want to tell you guys, remember that Russia is a terrorist state. That night dozens of people have died and even more got injured or lost their every possession. I was lucky to only suffer material losses. Attacks like this one have been happening since 2014 on the east side of Ukraine and for four years now all over the country and will continue. Our UNESCO protected landmarks are being destroyed and whole cities are being wiped out by missiles and drones.
Please, be mindful and avoid supporting russian organisations, and don't spread misinformation about the war. This is very important, because info war is just as much of a real part of the war as physical destruction is. If you have the means to, donate to Ukrainian volunteers. Support those who are dear to you.
But even after that life goes on. I still have to collect all of my paperwork for the graduation and applying for uni. People will be going back to work and meeting with friends.
Blame the government! Ordinary people are not at fault!
Ordinary people are working at factories and making bombs. Ordinary people are going to the occupied cities to settle there. Ordinary people taking the abducted children for "re-education". Ordinary people doing all the soft power work and whitewash state's crimes. Ordinary people launching missiles. Ordinary people go to newly occupied territories for vacations. Ordinary people do nothing and say nothing about state's crimes even when they have a chance. Ordinary people teach their kids to be the same.
And ordinary people loudly play victims while sending you death threats and calling you slurs. Ordinary people are telling the people their government bombing that they deserve to be bombed. Even if they were claiming they hate their government just a moment ago.
Army consists of ordinary people who decided to go to kill people in another country for some cash.
And some of them even think they should be praised and rewarded for leaving Omelas.
The new package of sanctions against Russia is finally supposed to include a ban on entry for Russians who took part in the genocidal war against Ukraine. But several countries are already pushing back, arguing that it should only be a recommendation rather than a binding measure.
It's the fourth year of the full-scale invasion and the twelfth year of Russia's war against Ukraine as a whole. Thousands of statements saying – "We are deeply concerned". Thousands more saying – "We must stand united".
And yet, when it comes to allowing Russian soldiers into Europe, the deciding factor is the money they bring as tourists. Some countries are literally worried about losing tourism revenue, regardless of where that money comes from.
People were outraged when the Olympic Committee argued that sport should be a "second chance" for people, regardless of what they had done during the war.
But Europe is effectively doing the same thing through tourism.
So in Europe, it's entirely possible for a Ukrainian refugee — a mother with her child, for example — to run into the very person who killed her relatives, committed sexual violence against civilians, took part in torture, or committed other war crimes, simply because he came there for a vacation.
Just fucking imagine that.
throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s, our generation was inundated with aave. it eclipsed lolcat as the "funny way to talk." ain't nobody got time fo dat turns into dat boi o shit waddup. this is blatantly not an "aracial" or "gen z" way to talk. it IS black english. not to mention the amount of black reaction images!!
WHY, specifically, is it black peoples' facial expressions that are seen as just so comical or exaggerated? analyze the history of this nation's comedy and tell me why you might be predisposed to thinking of black peoples' faces as just, "more emotive" or exaggeratedly funny than a white or nonblack person's
and throughout those years, 00s-10s, many black bloggers -- victims of the mass staff-led purge (under the cover of them being 'russian' while reichblr still exists) -- they DID tell us it was a problem, DID try to educate people who freak out at the insinuation of 'being racist,' DID argue, DID point out the duplicity and the appropriation and the gross equivalence of african american slang with unintelligence, goofiness, etc. and they were ignored, abused, cancelled, chased off, until being eventually mass deleted by our racist transmisogynistic staff.
we didn't do enough, and the generation after us gen z "kids" didn't stop the trend. using the '-ahh' suffix. rizz. no cap. ate. delulu. it's giving. it's serving. crash out. lock in. aura. tea. main character. bruh. slay. real. keep it 100.
all of the following images are or were popular reaction images! what do they all have in common?
it feels like the effort to categorize slang as AAVE and not 'gen z' or 'gen alpha' slang has really petered out. it feels like we stopped talking about digital blackface in an era where the administration is posting ai-generated videos of black women who speak and act like exaggerated stereotypes and it frustrates me because we all have a responsibility to understand our generation's role in normalizing this type of racist shit for kids today. this needs to be addressed!
Black people will never stop talking about this, but when we are on sites such as Tumblr, where so many of the white people feel that not only are they not racist, but that calling their racist behavior racist is emotional warfare on them, they will make sure to keep Black voices as silenced as possible.
Also, a lot of the Black people who got deleted or run off of the site weren't even accused of any type of Russian anything. A lot of them were just run the fuck off by the white Tumblr base on harassment shit.

I am afraid of loud noises. It shows up when I'm home, too, of course, but I suppose it stands out more outside Ukraine.
Perhaps that is how you find a Ukrainian abroad in the crowd — a lot of us would jump or tense from loud, booming noises of shutting doors, of things falling, sometimes from sounds of motors, because they remind us of explosions and drones.
I remember falling in love with thunderstorms, the mighty, overwhelming force of nature, the cool wind in my face, the lighting cutting the sky, and me, a little girl listening to New Divide by Linkin Park on my cousin's MP3 player...
Since then, russians forced me to fall out of love with it, because every time I hear thunder, I have to guess if it's just nature or an explosion. My cousin went a little crazy and stopped talking to me because I switched to Ukrainian.
The world has changed forever.
As a kid, I loved fireworks as well. Now, I am so, so afraid of them. I'm panicky scared of staying abroad for winter holidays, because I just know there will definitely be fireworks. And while the rest of the world will be celebrating the New Year, I'm going to be shaking and tensing. Hell, I'm even scared of the fireworks scene in the beginning of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy — I have to turn down the sound when I watch it.
It's just how it is.
My therapist told me those simple delights of life will return once we, Ukrainians, are able to finally feel safe.
The question I often ask myself, though, is how soon would that be?
And the notion that so many nations out there will relate to me honestly breaks my heart.
qifreys breedable womb...olruggios slutty slutty waist....hot gay girldads being hot and gay......ok now that i have your attention can we look a little more like this please. like collectively
i dont think the queer community fully understands how isolating it is to be a queer slav and seeing the fucking hammer and sickle fucking everywhere
not only did our families live through the horror that was the ussr but now we gotta be reminded of that shit constantly in the community that we're supposed to share as queer people
not to mention that the ussr wasnt even communist it was just fascist. why are u communists using the symbols of fascists. it just looks like ur idolizing a fascist state.
i just inherently do not trust anyone using the hammer and sickle nor the ussr flag as symbols of their communist ideologies
As a queer person whose family had to flee China due to the shit that went down during the Great Leap Forward, only to live through 1965 and 1998 in Indonesia, I definitely relate to this. Every time, I swear to god- I see a fellow queer person but they've got hammer and sickle stuff or even a freakin. Mao Zedong bust or some shit like that amongst their belongings my hackles immediately go right up.
Like damn. I believe in the general vision, don't get me wrong. Sharing is great and billionaires bad, down with late stage capitalism, 100%! But most tankies and Lenin/Mao Fans I run into in the wild don't. Get it. The way we do. It's theory to them, it's generational trauma to us.
Not long before its collapse in my country, the communist government performed Operation Hyacinth.
It was an operation performed by our police which involved creating a massive database of queer people, they would track those people down, force them to sign documents, provide fingerprints, make confessions, denounce their partners or colleagues.
All for pretty obvious reasons, to have blackmail material on them. Fortunately communism fell a few years later.
references finally DONE!!

I'm having a mental breakdown.
I have just found out that one of my favourite Ukrainian comedians was killed by russians.
And in the very same breath — five or so fandom people, my friends included, reposting and promoting a russian artist on Instagram.
Ukrainian artists die every day. It's not really a joke, it is true. Ukrainian lives are cut short every single day just because they're Ukrainian.
And for all I know, one day I might be amongst them. It's a scary thought, one that I usually don't voice and chase away from myself as much as I can. But it's true. One day I, a Ukrainian artist, as mid and inexperienced as I may be, with all my dreams and hopes and ambitions, might cease to exist for the sole reason of me being Ukrainian. Some of us already have.
And the world will move on. No, not just move on — it will continue promoting russian narratives, russian artists, it will watch and praise russian sports, movies and content about russia and russians.
Because it's not political, is it? Because people would rather find a thousand reasons to blame Ukrainians than one reason to boycott russian content. The reason being the genocide of Ukrainians and the collective responsibility over said genocide.
I can't help but think, if I died from a russian attack during the Easter vacation, all those people who smile at me, reblog my art, respond to my comments, would they stop to think that the russians are at fault? From the smallest artist to the politician to the member of the russian army — the people who have built and supported the society where genocide has become an acceptable thing?
I don't think so.
I think it would, like many Ukrainian deaths, exist in a hypothetical vacuum.
Oh, how sad. What a tragedy.
Anyways, have you seen this amazing drawing of my blorbo made by this wonderful russian artist?
I'll preface this by saying that I am White just bc i think it's important here
I've got a couple of friends that follow an artist on here who has a history of being anti-black and continues to do so (recently posted art that looks an awful lot like a golliwog) and i know it's racist because it's never confronting anything in a subversive way, it's just racial stereotypes.
I pointed this out to a friend once before, explaining what racial stereotypes he was perpetuating and pointing out an instance where he called another person a racial slur bc he was upset with them. That friend said it wasn't an issue bc the artist is Black (friend is white) and then they blocked me. so whatever, i lost a friend but i dont wanna be friends with someone willing to excuse racism so blatantly.
Now, im a lot closer the other two friends i have that seem to follow him, and one of them is also Black. I guess I'm just nervous after already losing one friend but I def want to say something. Do you have any advice on how to approach this? This artist has done a lot of other questionable things but I want to specifically bring up his anti-blackness bc of that recent art.
thank you!
Audience, what do we think?
Me personally, I distance myself from friends that are aware of someone's antiblackness and continue to follow them anyway. Yes, even when the artist in question is of color or Black. These are not people I trust or want to be around.
And if they mean a lot to you- and I've done this too- I've straight up just told people "hey I really value our friendship, but it makes me uncomfortable that you continue to support such and such." And if that goes poorly... Now you've got a reason to dip outright. Because any friend that would do you wrong like that isn't really your friend, to me. The heartbreak of letting em go might be better than the heartbreak of watching them be a happy bigot. But that's me!
