people who are like "but with universal healthcare you'll have to pay taxes!!! Up to 8%!!!" Are so funny. Like as opposed to the 16% of my gross paycheck that goes to private insurance, that won't cover shit unless i call my insurance company, then my doctor, then my pharmacy, then my doctor again because theyre pretty sure insurance got approved then my insurance company because they didn't get the letter, then my doctor again, then the pharmacy again, and then the copay i still am on the hook for.

I live in Canada, where healthcare is free, and like . . . you don't actually notice the extra taxes because you're saving actually saving money in the long run. Yeah, 8% sounds like a lot until you realize how much that 8% is covering.

For example, in Ontario, OHIP covers:

The full cost of doctors appointments, including specialists and walk-in visits

Hospital care, including inpatient, outpatient, meals and nursing care

Scans, lab work, blood tests and x-rays

All medically necessary surgery (this INCLUDES transition care and GRS)

Eye exams for children and seniors

And like, I would rather pay extra taxes so someone can get treated for cancer, than have to feel like shit because I can't donate to someone's gofundme for their cancer treatment.
