Hey there! I’m August, but you can call me Augs. I’m a 15 yr old boy and I’ve been a DC fan for as long as I can remember. My biggest obsession is the Robins. I also love Supergirl and Jon Kent's superman. Here's my Carrd if you want to know more about me!

This blog is my little corner of the internet to share everything I love about DC. You’ll find recommendations for comics, movies, and shows, plus infodumps on characters, storylines, and obscure details. I post reviews of comics, films, and TV shows, and sometimes I try redrawing my favorite panels... my art is definitely a work in progress though. Sometimes I write AUs, make headcanons, or even write short fanfics.

Comic Review Masterlist

Welcome to August's Comic Chatter, a series where I write my reviews about comics that my friends are tired of hearing. We're starting with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow because someone asked me about it earlier.

I don’t think it was groundbreaking the way some people hype it up to be, but it was pretty refreshing to see Kara shown “Superman’s female version” lens or the “coming of age teenager” view most writers shove her in. This story gives her space to be her own person, which is rare and wonderful.

What I really liked is how the book portrays Kara as much more flawed and damaged than Clark but without ever losing the core of what makes her a hero. She still embodies those ideals but you can see the weight of what she’s gone through in a way that makes her story stand apart. Showing Kara as a messy drunk is much better for her character than most would expect.

What I didnt like was the narration. Ruthye’s perspective is interesting in theory (especially as it seems to be excerpts from her book?), but the actual wording can be dense and annoying at times. She’s an unreliable narrator, which makes it harder to put together the story and left me feeling confused.

Overall though, I’d rate it an 8.5/10. It’s a Supergirl story that gives her characterization with depth, and it shows the essence of her that makes her one of my favorites. I love this version of Kara, however, Ruthye annoyed me deeply, and that's the sole reason that it lost points.

Beginner's Guide To Comics

So, you wanna get into dc comics but don’t know where to start?

I just put together a beginner’s guide to dc comics that breaks things down into:

general starter runs (with links to read them!)

a batfamily reading list in order (also with links!)

character-specific checklists (for when you inevitably pick a favorite and want everything about them)

it’s casual, easy to follow, and meant to make comics way less intimidating. Right now, there are only 4 character-specific lists, but it will update often.
