I feel like a lot of people do not know how much wheelchairs cost so

one that is actually designed to be used independently, rigid frame, without any fancy electronics, is a lot of money.

how much do you think the wheelchair shown below is worth?

this is $1,600. this costs one thousand six hundred dollars with no customization, on SALE. this is a SALE price. this is one of the cheapest rigid wheelchairs I could find from a reputable seller. different models cost thousands more and even basic customization can tack on a ton of money.

yeah...that is basically what people do. or they are forced to use pieces of crap folding wheelchairs that hurt the user because they are intended primarily for being pushed. if you have someone with you 24/7 who can push you everywhere? a wheelchair costs a couple hundred for one that might cause a little less bruising than a hospital model. want to be independent at all? you need thousands of dollars for a proper fit or be willing to constantly injure yourself.

I literally JUST purchased a properly fit wheelchair that was designed to be active, independent, and fit my needs. Nothing fancy, I think I got a tire upgrade so I can go on gravel and flip down handles so I can keep people from kidnapping "helping" me when I don't want them to, but also got a less expensive cushion and backrest than standard and a $1000 discount off MSRP for paying in cash.

Turns out the price of freedom for me is exactly $2354.

My uncle bought a wheelchair after his accident, that is meant for rough terrain, it's built like a tank, the thing has treads, it can lift him upright so he can continue to pick from his orchard.

It cost more than a brand new car. Almost 60k for a wheelchair he can use to sustain his farm. JUST to sustain his farm.

Its ridiculous. Disabled people deserve affordable accommodations and mobility devices. They aren't all fucking rich

The original concept came about as a joke because I used to work full time in a romance publishing houses and got sick of biphobic and homophobic narratives where love triangles happened constantly, and one of the three love interests either turned into the villain or got murdered in order to leave the “true” pairing behind.

Granted one of my characters is dead, but he’s learned to live with it. And if anyone tries to bury him they’ll get clocked over the head with their own shovel lol

Can I just say how much I love the implications here? Harley and Ivy are known public figures. People know who they are, and recognize them. And this kid knows that, despite being violent criminals, they’re safe enough to go to for protection. Ivy is dead certain that the Batfamily will be okay with them intervening to protect a kid. That has some intersting implications - either she knows damn well where the lines lie and that this is overriding enough to get her a pass, or (more likely, given the first bit) this has come up before.

I think this illustrates that there is sometimes a separation between the types of villains. There are some villains who have little to no redeeming qualities like Joker and then you have what’s shown in this panel. Two of the most infamous villains with the mindset of, “Wait a minute! No, you don’t hurt children! They’re off limits!”

So this weekend I found myself chatting with an established comic writer, he asked me about my interest in the matter and I told him I ran a webcomic but before he could even respond I qualified it with;

“Well it’s a fan comic, I’m not a real comic creator.” He was appalled.

“What do you mean you’re not a real comic creator?” He demanded. “Do you have a comic?”

“Well yeah but its a fan comic its not a real-” He literally put his hand on my shoulder to stop me.

“You have a comic. You made a comic. You’re putting in the work. You’re a real comic creator.” He told me about how one of the people he works with on a comic started by writing Mass Effect fanfiction even. I’ve been thinking about that ever since.

I’ve thought about how many times I’ve heard myself and other say things like, “Oh, I’m a writer but I write fanfiction not like real writing.” And thats so bullshit, he was right. 

If you write you’re a writer, end of story.

Hey everyone I really hate asking but I’m in a bind. My life has been tulmutous to say the least. I was the primary income earner in my relationship until I was recently diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I was working 17 hour overnight shifts as a caregiver twice a week for almost two years until I couldn’t handle the stress. My partner @writeswrongs was able to land a job that was too good to be true while I was in recovery. But it was a start up and they just laid off a bunch of people including her. On top of all of that I’ve been experiencing some legal troubles for blocking the ICE driveway with Never Again Action in my city. Luckily, as of today I’ve learned the case will not go to trial but now I have to pay a modest fine of $130. But I’m $600 short on rent and can’t even begin to address that problem until I pay rent by November 4th.

Despite all these setbacks my life is beginning to turn around for the better. I have a seasonal job lined up and I’m planning on going to community college for winter term to learn a trade - audio engineering. Please help a struggling queer couple, a Black Latina writer and a Jewish Latina organizer get back on our feet. We appreciate all the support of our communities and hope we can soon pay it forward.
