I hate when king arthur has all these fussy little steps in the instructions and you're like "no way do these fussy little steps matter" but you try it and they do. they matter so much.
I thought you meant Camelot quests and I was like "that's fair, 'never pick a four leaf clover on the last Wednesday of the month' IS a fussy little step that shouldn't matter" but then I was like "wait isn't that also a flour company"
nooo I am not a beleaguered knight of the round table I am making elaborate focaccia 😭
Honestly bizarre that tomatoes get all the flack for “not being a vegetable” because they're technically a fruit when:
A) There are a ton of fruits that get categorised as vegetables. Like this also applies to pumpkins, squashes and cucumbers.
B) The fucking mushrooms are standing there at the back of the crowd in this witch trial, trying to look inconspicuous because they somehow got into the vegetable club with no fucking controversy despite the fact that they're not even plants.
"technically tomatoes are fruits--" THAT MUSHROOM OVER THERE IS MORE CLOSELY RELATED TO A FUCKING SHIH TZU THAN IT IS TO LITERALLY ANY PLANT

CeCe Rogers on Facebook writes: "Two Black Tennessee lawmakers were physically escorted out of chambers this week while Republicans quietly held a hearing to approve gerrymandered maps that would eliminate the state's only majority-Black congressional district.
No referendum. No special election. No public vote.
Because they know what happens when voters actually get a say — just look at Virginia, where the people spoke so loudly that Republicans had to drag the courts in to override them.
This isn't new. During Reconstruction, Black Americans held more congressional seats than at any point in the prior 90 years of American history. And white supremacists spent the next several decades tearing that down, through gerrymandering, poll taxes, and voter intimidation.
150 years later, the same tools. Different suits.
The audacity of escorting Black lawmakers out of their own chambers while dismantling Black political representation, and then telling us the courts aren't political, is breathtaking. These are the same courts they're counting on to make it stick.
This is a coordinated, multi-front assault on Black Americans. And we need to say it exactly that plainly."
Pay attention to this one, folks, as the more you look into it, the worse it gets.
Firstly, I found a data-focused analysis of the redistricting. The tl;dr is that Republicans claim the redistricting was done to balance urban/rural voting blocks, BUT the actual data indicates that urban voting power was ONLY broken up in Black-majority Memphis and other urban centers in east Tennessee were left alone (Nashville was also chopped up a bit, but my potentially flawed understanding is it was already divided up a lot from a previous redistricting). There's also statistical evidence that gerrymandering increased across the board. The NAACP of Tennessee has already filed a lawsuit.
Secondly, in a really heinous move, a bill was passed* that eliminates the requirement to inform voters of district changes. That means a lot of people are not going to know their voting place and/or precinct changed until they actually show up to vote because there's no legal obligation to tell them (they would have to know to go online and check), UNLESS everyone gets really loud about this. Also, learn this lesson: double and triple check your voter registration leading up to elections, because shit like this can happen. *All news coverage I found was written before it was passed, but this bill tracker indicates it was signed by the Governor May 7.
Finally, I wanted to note that the redistricting happened ultra fast and after some primary elections had occurred on May 5 (the new district map was adopted May 7). That means that: 1) the process of candidates qualifying and campaigning was already in full swing and now many candidates will have to scramble to either re-qualify or continue in a new area. I don't have any sources to back this up, but my hunch is that is will disproportionately affect Black candidates running in previously majority Black districts, whose entire voter base just changed overnight. And then 2) because this happened AFTER primaries, that means some voters will be forced to vote in a general election for candidates that were not in the primary they participated in. Both prospects are insanely undemocratic. (For further context, the May 5 primaries were only for a handful of smaller positions and primaries for bigger positions will be in August, so that's why a lot of coverage of this is sort of just ignoring some primaries already happened.)
Additionally, I wanted to provide some context to the photos above. The gentleman burning a paper print out of the confederate flag is Rep. Justice Jones, who is a house representative from Nashville. The two gentlemen being escorted out are Rep. Justin Pearson (Memphis) and his brother KeShaun. News coverage is here-- basically, as is common when there's tons of protesters, the gallery was ordered to be cleared and Rep. Pearson went up to check on his brother. Unclear to me if KeShaun was refusing to leave or if it was a situation where cops moved in to grab people the second the order to clear was given. Either way, Rep. Pearson can be heard on video fairly calmly saying to let his brother go and he'll walk him out, escalating to some yelling and swearing when cops continued grabbing at his brother (who seems to be calmly making his way out of the building). Both Rep. Jones and Rep. Pearson were briefly expelled from their positions in 2023 after participating in a protest for gun control in the wake of a school shooting in an elementary school; the white representative who protested with them (Gloria Johnson (Knoxville)) was not expelled. Both Jones and Pearson were later reinstated, but it was a huge scandal. Basically what I wanted to stress here is: the government of Tennessee has some deeply rooted evil, but there are dedicated representatives working to improve Tennessee for their constituents. Staying politically active and voting matters.
I write these words to you with a heart filled with pain and loss.
Here in the heart of the Gaza Strip, from the heart of suffering, pain, hunger, and a severe siege.
I lost my mother, who meant life and hope to me.
I lost the eldest who was my support in this life.
Now I am alone in this life. My family is suffering and going through very difficult circumstances. I have a young child and a wife who is three months pregnant. We are exhausted from hunger due to the lack of food and medicine.
My baby won't stop crying because he's hungry and wants baby milk. My wife needs healthy food, vitamins, and protein for her unborn child's health.
Because of the war, I lost my job and everything I owned, and I can't provide them with even the most basic necessities.
I ask for your help with a broken heart, a heart wracked with pain and loss.
We urgently need 500 euros to save my family from hunger and the dire need for medicine. We ask nothing of you but your help to save us and keep us alive.

I've kept this blog mostly as a faceless drawing account, but I feel like at this point I should talk more about art related things I believe in. right now, I've been more and more annoyed by the way artists approach merch and their reactions to criticism
First of all, and I'll be blunt: the entitlement towards cheap global south labor from indie artists is insane. You can place whatever marginalized identity in your shop, it does not give you the free pass to hire manufacturers that refuse to inform you about the wages and labor protections of their workers. If the only way that you can do x product is like that, then you don't deserve to have x product as a merch option.
Enamel pins, makeshift plushies, acrylic stands, shitty tshirts and apparel... why is our community filled with dropshipping slop whos production involves labor abuses and environmental damage? why are we constantly playing dumb to these manufacturers being shady and then getting surprised they get in labor scandals? why are we coddling artists that its ok to exploit others for profit because a smol bean who just has no choice or responsibility ever?
If you aren't making your merch by hand or making sure the people making it for you are being paid properly, then you should get another job.

"What if we find a way to keep fetuses alive outside the womb" that already exists, it's called the NICU and it took decades of advancements in medical science and technology. it takes an entire team equipped with state of the art technology to keep a fetus alive outside the womb. because it cannot perform basic life-supporting functions like breathing on its own. this isn't an anti-NICU post tbc. I'm actually considering the nicu as an option after going back to school because I really like fetuses and babies, I think they're neat. but the fact remains that it takes an entire team of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and more to keep a micropreemie alive. and most abortions occur even before the point that it becomes possible at all. "viable" doesn't mean ready to be born. it means it is possible to keep it alive thanks to medical science developed by the same "abortionists" whose executions you're always calling for.
also, it's not an "after birth abortion" when they "let" micropreemies die, it's fucking hospice care.
absolutely. and to add onto this, i was a nicu baby, and i was a late term abortion. when i was still in the womb i was dying inside my mother, so they had to induce her extremely prematurely to save our lives. there was a very high chance of me dying because they took me outside of the womb before they knew if i could survive on my own, but the chances of me and my mother dying if i stayed inside her were 100%.
the procedure to remove me is medically and legally a late term abortion. i was aborted, and it saved my life. if they hadn’t aborted me, my mother and i would both be dead, my siblings would have been left with a dead mother, and i would have never even gotten a chance to live a single day. and now, people are being denied this procedure and dying because it’s literally an abortion!! mothers and their babies are being killed because their doctors are not allowed to perform life-saving abortions.
on the same note, my sister was recently denied an abortion. which is to say, cleaning out the already dead fetus after she had a miscarriage from a wanted pregnancy. they refused treatment unless the DEAD fetus was actively killing her, because the procedure to remove it is medically and legally an abortion. they basically said to her “come back when you’re dying of an infection or sepsis or something, until then you just have to bleed out.” my sister could have died from this, people HAVE died from being denied abortions after having a miscarriage. if she was one of these people, my sister would have been dead, my mother would have to live the rest of her life without her daughter, and my nephew would have had to live the rest of his life without a mother.
sick and tired of people saying to me “yeah, but that’s different. you can’t really call those procedures an abortion, they’re not really an abortion.” yes it is. it’s an abortion. any procedure that entails unnaturally removing a fetus and/or baby from the womb before they’re sure it can survive outside of it is an abortion. if it wasn’t, people wouldn’t be being told that, sorry! we can’t do that! you’ll have to come back when you’re already dead. i was aborted, my mother had an abortion when she was pregnant with me, my sister needed an abortion after she had a miscarriage. all of these things are ABORTIONS! and now mothers and babies are being killed, murdered by these anti-abortionist fuckers and the laws they put in place to “save and protect poor, innocent lives!”
