directed by men vs. directed by women
no nipped in waist. no weird vacuum sealed circular boobs. no awkward “i gotta pee but they said look sexy” walk. no vacant stare away from the camera.
real body shape, not unnecessary sexy elements to her outfit, murder strut, power stare. (not to mention there’s clearly many other women in the background behind her!)
Thank you, I was trying to analyse the specifics, and found your comment in the notes.
Also, the way she’s holding the batons as opposed to the way she’s holding the guns. It looks like she’s about to drop the guns, her wrists are towards the camera, a more vulnerable position as well, while the batons look like actual weapons, gripped tightly, obviously intended for use, and her wrists are pointed inwards/backwards, a far less vulnerable and open position.
But I think so much of it is in the direction of her gaze. The Black Widow poster is confrontational. She’s looking back at you. It’s a mutual exchange of gazes. You can’t see without in turn being seen. She’s walking towards you. While, in the Captain America Civil War poster it looks like she’s having some sort of strange daydream. You can look at her without her seeing you, it makes it more voyeuristic. Also, the sort of hazy not-really-there effect is heightened by that motion of her hair blowing in some unseen wind.
