I firmly believe Modern day Merlin deals with the same story misfortune he had in canon.
As a medieval historian, he constantly tells other scholars about various customs, and when they inevitably ask for sources, he has to tell them it’s “just a feeling” (because he can’t reveal he lived during that period).
So everyone assumes he’s a fool and not really that good of a professor, but without fail, every single one of his theories gets proven right within a few years
And it drives the scholarly community insane.
