@balhrin
I was drawing a bunch of pentagrams in my notebook during math class because I was bored and I think I drew 150 pentagrams in total before a devilish-looking guy wearing a red suit broke down the door of the classroom and yelled âwHAT the fUCK do you wANT?!â
this username escapes me every single time
i cant stop thinking about this post
Can you do something with a pig and a dog? I feel like they would be such a cute pair of friends.
they meet up every saturday
Youâll be like âI dont like TERFsâ and then a TERF will be like âIâm a TERF and Iâm a women so that means youâre blatantly admitting you hate womenâ and then youâll get a dozen notes from TERFs patting each other on the back about her flawless logic itâs like an entire subculture of Ben Sharpiros but with shitty haircuts and even more reaching
It truly boggles my mind that people think raising the age of consent will protect young adults.
âI just want young people to be less vulnerable to abuseâ â and you think making sex illegal will accomplish that? There are a shitton of real life statistics proving otherwise.
Are you fucking stupid?
This is literally conservative republican pro-lifer propaganda masquerading as logic.Â
âI just want teenagers to stop getting pregnantâ â and you think abstinence-only education will accomplish that? There are a shitton of real life statistics proving otherwise.
âI just think sex work is dangerousâ â and you think making sex work illegal will remove the danger? There are a shitton of real life statistics proving otherwise.
.
We all want bad things to stop happening.Â
There are effective ways to stop bad things from happening:
education - give people all the information they need to make informed decisions
empowerment - give people the legal authority to speak in their own defense and act on their own behalfÂ
resources - give people tools that will minimize risks
infrastructure - give people a support system they can reach out to, and a social safety net
I see more and more so-called progressives arguing that the only way to protect young people is to keep them:
ignorant
voiceless
without means
without access
What the fuck????
Youâre not protecting anyone with that.Â
Youâre literally dismantling the protections feminists and queer activists spent decades trying to implement.
.
People are asking - when is a person ready for sex?Â
This is the wrong question.
Now Iâll be the first to admit that when I was eighteen, I was not ready for sex.
When I was eighteen, Iâd never had to earn money. I didnât know how to drive, in a town where the only way to get anywhere was by driving, so Iâd never even gone shopping by myself. When I was eighteen, Iâd never taken care of a pet, or even a plant. Iâd hardly spent any time at all unsupervised. Iâd never gone on a date. Iâd never kissed anyone.
So of course, I wasnât ready for sex. Not because I was 18, but because I was sheltered.
I understood that my experiences were not universal, that not everyone my age was at the same maturity level as me, because not everyone my age was as sheltered as me.
Hereâs the thing. I didnât need anybody to tell me I was sheltered. I had the mental capacity to figure that out myself. I didnât need anybody to tell me I wasnât ready for sex. I had the mental capacity to figure that out for myself.
.
Thatâs the actual issue here.Â
Not whether or not an 18 year old is ready to have sex, but whether an 18 year old is capable of determining their own readiness.
.
An 18 year old has the mental capacity to perform a job, and take home a paycheck, and pay bills. An 18 year old has the mental capacity to choose a career path, and take care of a pet, and do their own shopping. An 18 year old has the mental capacity to vote for political leaders and for legislation.
Nobody seriously questions whether or not an 18 year old is capable of these things.Â
Nobody questions whether an 18 year old is mature enough to work a register at starbucks. Nobody questions whether an 18 year old is mature enough to have a bank account or do taxes. Nobody questions whether an 18 year old is mature enough to drive a car or make dental appointments or vote.
But people still try to argue that an 18 year old isnât old enough to have bodily autonomy.
.
Yâall need to stop drinking the purity koolaid.
Like I get that itâs a dick move if itâs not necessary. But if you break down in tears because you have to actually go to work youâre a massive fucking pussy.
Itâs more like they were given a brief, happier, healthier alternative to being stuck inside a small space for 8 hours a day for a year and a half and going back to that is realizing how awful it really is.
Calling someone a âpussyâ for breaking down in tears over being subjected to fresh, unreasonable misery is contributing to the problem of letting corporations dictate our lives and sounds a lot like deep throating the boot. (Aside from the casual misogyny of saying tears, Feeling Things, and apparently not wanting to go to work are feminine and not something a manly man would do).
Dude literally had a year of freedom. He could go outside, go to the park, stay home, just generally go where he pleased. Like a fucking adult who understood he had work to do, and obviously still got it all done because he hasnât been fired or âlaid offâ. Now heâs got a collar back on his neck and a chain keeping him at a desk between a set of beige walls and an equally boring ceiling, which was there before, but now he sees it for what it is. And why is it there? Because his boss has a deep insecurity about letting people work without oversight. Because his manager starts to look a little redundant if people can do their jobs without touching base, attending meetings, and generally doing stuff that makes said manager look like a Leader. Because thereâs people who think âthis is the way my parents did it, and their parents did it, and presumably (but actually not) how their parents did it, so itâs good enough for me and you, and letâs have no more talk of this change nonsenseâ.
This is why thereâs talk of a literal Great Resignation coming, as people whoâve come to appreciate their freedom give the bird to unreasonable bosses who want them back in an office. And other people who actually preferred the structure and routine of the desk look for another one when their own bosses decide to keep the work-from-home model coming. Covid has caused a cultural shift, and ridiculing our fellow man for wanting something better is the stupidest thing you can do.
The whole year proved that people still get enough work done without going in person and we know all that commuting is hell on the environment. There actually ought to be a push to âbanâ physical office work; absolutely no business should be able to force you to go somewhere if your work can be done from anywhere at all.
I say this as someone who has never had an office/cubicle job myself, but holy shit the notes are an absolute trainwreck of people thinking office workers have âcushyâ jobs they should appreciate better. No, no they do not, office workers have a high suicide rate for a reason. More to the point, you shouldnât be making any workerâs rights into a âwho has it worseâ race.
Tumblr, what is this?
I never paid money to have any of my posts sponsored on your platform. Why are you sponsoring one of my posts without my permission? I have received zero communication about this. I am not okay with this. Some comments are: âPride Knights gone corporateâ or âI donât know how I feel about thisâŠâ
You never asked for my permission, so I assume sponsoring this post is in your own interest rather than that of the Pride Knights because this is seriously damaging the community we are trying to build here.
@staff @supportâ
Some thoughts:
We sometimes promote posts on Instagram (a very different platform than Tumblr) with our savings because we want to encourage and empower people struggling with their sexuality and orientation. Thatâs literally why the Pride Knights exist. So if for $5, I can make someoneâs day a bit brighter by sponsoring a post of me holding up a cardboard sign saying that everything will be alright and that you are strong, well, I consider that money well-spent.Â
During the three years I have been running this blog, I have rarely seen a hateful comment. Our community is a safe space and a place for happy vibes and empowerment, and I do my best to keep it that way. But right now, due to this post being promoted all over Tumblr, there is a bunch of homophobes in the comment section. This upsets me because I am afraid it affects people who like and frequent this blog.
I am not 100% against this post being sponsored on Tumblr by Tumblr if at least there had been communication with us and an agreement reached. With them featuring our post (featured by Tumblr i/o sponsored. Since, again, this isnât technically a sponsor on our part), at least Tumblr is sharing LGBTQ+ positivity. Execution could have been better.
I knew something was up when I saw the âsponsoredâ post on my dash yesterday! The Pride Knights are really cool and they deserve the best. @prideknights Thank you for everything you do for the community and I hope this gets resolved quickly! #signalboost
Renowned Feminist Philosopher Judith Butler Tears Transphobic Feminism Apart
Judith Butler says that J.K.Rowling and the transphobic TERFs do not speak for feminism at large.
If you havenât heard about Judith Butler before, here is a short summary: She is one of the most important gender theorists in modern times. Â
When right wing extremists despair about postmodern gender theory, she is probably one of the thinkers they are referring to (not that they have ever read her).Â
She has shown how social structures, language, the stories we tell and the roles we play strengthen the oppression and marginalization of women. In other words: For her gender is definitely a cultural and social phenomenon, and because of that she is on a collision course with the so-called âgender critical feministsâ (TERFs) who want to reduce gender to biological sex.
I strongly recommend that you read the recent New Statesman interview with Butler, where she addresses the thinking and the tactics of TERFs in very clear terms. The interview is behind a paywall, but you should be able to access a couple of articles for free.
Still â in case you are locked out â here are some important excerpts.
She refuses to think of transphobic TERFs as mainstream feminists.
I want to first question whether trans-exclusionary feminists are really the same as mainstream feminists. If you are right to identify the one with the other, then a feminist position opposing transphobia is a marginal position. I think this may be wrong. My wager is that most feminists support trans rights and oppose all forms of transphobia.Â
So I find it worrisome that suddenly the trans-exclusionary radical feminist position is understood as commonly accepted or even mainstream.Â
I think it is actually a fringe movement that is seeking to speak in the name of the mainstream, and that our responsibility is to refuse to let that happen.Â
She dismisses J.K. Rowlingâs idea that allowing people to identify as they want will be a threat to women in womenâs bathrooms.
The feminist who holds such a view presumes that the penis does define the person, and that anyone with a penis would identify as a woman for the purposes of entering such changing rooms and posing a threat to the women inside. It assumes that the penis is the threat, or that any person who has a penis who identifies as a woman is engaging in a base, deceitful, and harmful form of disguise.Â
This is a rich fantasy, and one that comes from powerful fears, but it does not describe a social reality. Trans women are often discriminated against in menâs bathrooms, and their modes of self-identification are ways of describing a lived reality, one that cannot be captured or regulated by the fantasies brought to bear upon them.Â
She dismisses the idea that the term âtrans-exclusionary radical feministâ (TERF)Â is a slur.
I wonder what name self-declared feminists who wish to exclude trans women from womenâs spaces would be called? If they do favour exclusion, why not call them exclusionary? If they understand themselves as belonging to that strain of radical feminism that opposes gender reassignment, why not call them radical feminists?Â
My only regret is that there was a movement of radical sexual freedom that once travelled under the name of radical feminism, but it has sadly morphed into a campaign to pathologise trans and gender non-conforming peoples.Â
My sense is that we have to renew the feminist commitment to gender equality and gender freedom in order to affirm the complexity of gendered lives as they are currently being lived.
She does not accept the idea that the term gender can be defined once and for all, for example in reference to biology.
We depend on gender as a historical category, and that means we do not yet know all the ways it may come to signify, and we are open to new understandings of its social meanings.Â
It would be a disaster for feminism to return either to a strictly biological understanding of gender or to reduce social conduct to a body part or to impose fearful fantasies, their own anxieties, on trans women⊠Their abiding and very real sense of gender ought to be recognised socially and publicly as a relatively simple matter of according another human dignity.Â
She also says:
It is painful to see that Trumpâs position that gender should be defined by biological sex, and that the evangelical and right-wing Catholic effort to purge âgenderâ from education and public policy accords with the trans-exclusionary radical feministsâ return to biological essentialism.Â
It is a sad day when some feminists promote the anti-gender ideology position of the most reactionary forces in our society.
So there you have it: One of our leading feminist philosophers are comparing TERFs to the transphobic extremists of the right. And she is right to do so.
It is important to stress this: TERFs are not representative of feminism. They represent a toxic fringe movement that at this point in time does more to help right wing misogynists than women.Â

Butler criticized TERFs back in 2014, as well, as reflected in this interview.

Workers owning the means of production. Sharing the profits. #CopyAndPaste
You mean white trust fund kids with enough savings to buy an actual whole business right? Even 20th of a business split among 20 employees would be a huge amount of money....
No.
I went and found the story. The union formed included about forty individuals total, first off. Only about a half dozen were active employees, due to the pandemic, at the time.
When the owner put the cafe up for sale, he offered the first shot to the union (the union is called CUPS, by the way). They started a GoFundMe and raised 25,000 off of that, and then an additional 30,000 from doing fundraiser work at the farmer's market and asking for assistance in establishing a worker's co-op (good targeting, farmer's market folks like that shit usually, and have the money to help).
They were able to put a 55k down payment on the table, and were able to negotiate for a decent mortgage on the place due to the establishment of the union in the first place.
Lots of trans people, if not all, have slipped up and misgendered themselves. Weâve all used the wrong phrases, pronouns, deadnamed ourselves, everything you can think of is probably just as common as the last. Accidently misgendering yourself is simply that, an accident. It doesnât mean youâre âfake,â youâve spent your whole life being referred to a specific way, youâre bound to mess up. Itâs ok. Just forgive yourself and move on.
Me and @beautifultrees07 are plotting to do a secret guerilla pumpkin patch in a neglected waste patch by a local freeway. Itâs gonna look cute!
Update! We cleared this area of invasive (and abrasive!) weeds, hoed the rocky and barren soils, amended the earth (with a layer of straw for drainage and to hold moisture/encourage mycelium), created 18 pumpkin mounds of different varieties (Atlantic Giant, Jarrahdale, Lumina, Cinderella, Jack Oâ Lantern, Musquee de Provence, and Red Warty Thing) in 96 degree weather so like, donât even question our love for pumpkins and soil restoration! We added flowers for beautification and to attract pollinators. We moved discarded mattresses, furniture pieces, and removed bags of trash, glass, and dog poop. The pumpkin vines will reach maturity in October and weâre looking forward to the growth!
Update! Remember her??? Be careful who you call ugly!! Our guerilla garden/secret pumpkin patch is really shaping up! Pumpkin vines are growing strong and healthy, cucumber plants are producing, and corn stalks are growing taller! This lot used to be filled with dog poop, mattresses, and discarded furniture! Hopefully weâll have pumpkins soon. Me and my two sisters laid all the groundwork for this garden and itâs being maintained mostly by one of my sisters and other volunteers. We love to restore the soil, revive barren land, and coax pumpkins from the earth just in time for Hallowâs Eve ~Â
Another update from August 5:
Foliage is thick and lush and baby pumpkins are forming! Weâre excited for the turn of the season and to have a little pumpkin patch ready for Halloween
An update from today, August 7th! (btw you can follow the instagram page for this group garden @threesisters_garden). We have a lot of different pumpkin varieties! This one below is Atlantic Giant:
This next one is Red Warty Thing (yknow the one thatâs red with warts)
And the one below is Jarrahdale (will be a silvery green pumpkin)
Update from August 16! Pumpkins are growing bigger and stronger by the day!
Look at the Red Warty Thing variety below! She is growing warts and we couldnât be more proud!
If you want more pumpkin updates, you can follow our instagram page (@threesisters_garden)
Another update from today, August 23: the Red Warty Thing pumpkin has grown more warts!
Update to the thread: we harvested everything and theyâre beautiful! Stunning!
Some pumpkins were stolen before they reached their full potential but these are the ones we managed to harvest! There are 5 different varieties in this line-up (from left to right, Jarrahdale, Jack O Lantern, Cinderella, Red Warty Thing, and Lumina). Itâs wild to see how this little neglected strip of earth by the side of the freeway could produce such beautiful pumpkins with a few soil amendments and TLC
The pessimist in me is SHOCKED this wasnât either vandalized or uprooted by local government employees. GLAD IT WAS SUCCESSFUL.
The secret to success with this is that noone knows whatâs supposed to be going on with this stretch of dirt. Everyoneâs gonna look at the pumpkin patch and think âhey thatâs a cool thing the city did!â. You can just plant stuff wherever because noone knows youâre not a contractor. You could probably put down a sign somewhere declaring it a community garden space and people would start planting stuff there, because who else would put a sign there if not the city? In fact, I think Iâm gonna do that with the piece of grass behind my apartment
Basically @hyperactivehedgehog is right! We wore neon reflective vests while working on this and everyone assumed we were sent by the city or some official group. Even my friends and coworkers (at my day job) assumed I was being paid to do this because they saw pictures of me in my reflective orange vest. The city does have a budget to maintain neglected areas like this, but they donât make it a priority to provide regular trash services or maintain it like the neighbors would like. So we essentially did the cityâs job for them, free of charge and on our own dollar. We even made the sidewalk accessible by trimming back the weeds hanging over it and removing the trash blocking it. Itâs something no one can be mad about. I think it also worked because the neighbors hated that everyone regarded the area as a dumping ground. So when anyone volunteers to clean it up, theyâre just glad the trash is gone.Â
If anything this just shows the power of a reflective vest. Put on a hard hat, work pants and youâll damn near be able to walk into anywhere.

Snek Twins compilation part 2 so far. Part 1 is here :).
People take names and especially surnames so damn seriously and act like theyâre written in stone but the big secret here is theyâre all fake, itâs all made up. David Tennant picked out his name at 16 because his real name was barred from the actorâs union he joined on account of their No Doubles Allowed rule, and he wound up naming himself after Neil Tennant from the Pet Shop Boys of all things, and now many years later his whole family carries on that same made-up name he committed to as a teenager. All names are made up and fake as hell, call yourself whatever feels right.
As a trans person it actually always makes me sad when even a cis person tells me they hate their name. Iâm always like, change it, and theyâre like âoh I dont want to go through the paperwork etcâ and Iâm like, you donât have to, just use a different name socially, have your friends call you what you want, and they never know how to respond it seems, like they canât really wrap their head around that concept being easy and acceptable.. It just makes me sad for them cause I live in such a different social world with fellow trans people in which having a chosen name is expected by most people AND respected, no one will ever mention your legal/deadname.
Cis people can do it too! Normalize it!! You donât have to be trans to have a chosen name! No one should ever have to go through the burden of hearing yourself being called something you canât stand, as someone who knows how terrible that feels. Your identity is your own to dictate and dont let the world stop you
(Ofc just be sure to avoid appropriating names outside of your culture that arenât meant to be shared)
Trying
I love this video so much. This cat, trying so hard to sip like a people. Desperate to sip like a people. Objectively incapable of sipping like a people.
Okay but you know what this tells me? That this cat really loves its owners. Cuz like, cats mirror us when they like us. Thatâs why they hang out on laptops. They want to do what we do because thatâs how they show affection. So this cat saw its human drink like thatâŠand decided to do it too cuz but itâs hard so it keeps trying. Thatâs love.
there are so many good episodes of The Magic Schoolbus but the one I remember most vividly is the one where the class competes in a Smell Contest, which is a contest to create smells, which is a thing I desperately wanted to be real
anyway their smell gets sabotaged so they have to shrink really tiny and fly into the judgeâs nose to shoot down the stink molecules
good fucking shit
Iâm rewatching it and god Valerie Frizzle is fucking unhinged. She is a Batman rogue and is just constantly plotting new bizarre ways to place the children under her care in mortal peril so they can learn a fun science lesson. She literally looks into the hallway and sees the evil kid prowling around and rubs her hand together like âmwahaha all according to keikakuâ.
I love that there is an Evil Kid and I also love that Ms. Frizzle doesnât see her as either a threat to her students or a child in need of adult support or interventionâshe sees her as a potential catalyst for Science Learning
I also love the episode where Ms. Frizzle apparently read a WikiHow titled âHow To Make Your Students Think You Are A Vampire Who Is Secretly Indoctrinating Their Parents Into A Blood-Drinking Dracula Cultâ... kids come up with conspiracies about their teachersâ private lives on their own but Valerie Fucking Frizzle went out of her way to ensure that her students had ample evidence to think she kills people and makes their parents drink blood, and for what??? To make them pay attention to her lesson on echolocation.
