The first page of my song lyrics notebook! This is my notebook for Korean, and the song is You & Me by Yoon Mi Rae ft. Junoflo (a song I got to hear live in Seoul!!!). Lately I’ve been relying on just the classroom for studying Korean, and it was making language learning feel like a chore. This is a great way to make studying fun. Might do Disney songs in Korean next 😁

1. Keep physical reminders around
_You can keep these reminders in your bag, in your study area, in your car, wherever you’re at most frequently! A huge motivation of mine is South Korea, because I studied abroad there, fell in love, and hope to return for a longer-term stay. So, I keep a globe of the N Seoul Tower on my desk to look at when studying turns to just dying. As another example, I could clip a small Korean souvenir key chain with my car keys.
2. Envision achieving your future goals
_…and then express this vision through a creative story, mood board, drawing, fashion, etc. If you want to work for a big company one day, you could dress more business-casual next time you go out to school (or wherever you like!).
3. Research companies you’d love to work for
_Look up reviews or testimonies from current and past employees. Glassdoor is a good website for this; you can look up different companies and it will show you detailed reviews from employees. These reviews can even be broken down by positions (so you can compare what it would be like to work in the Marketing versus Finance department).
4. Look up your dream home
_Start with the place(s) you’d like to live in, and then look up real estate in the area to see how much your dream life costs. Don’t just focus on the finances though; see how the neighborhood is and what fun things there are to do nearby!
5. Read an interesting article/book or watch a video on your preferred topic
_Maybe you’re a stressed out biology student, but try to remember the cool/fun side of science! You could look up animal facts or interesting animal research videos, read about a new discovery in the science world, or read a sci-fi book.
6. Backtrack
_Look at your past achievements: past awards/recognition, transcripts from a term where you got your best grades, Dean’s/President’s List letter, welcome letter from your school’s honors program/society, job/university acceptance e-mail,etc.
7. Remember your responsibilities
_If you have any academic scholarship(s), odds are you have to keep your grades above a certain criteria. So, get to it!
8. Make a motivational song/video playlist
_Add songs that get you fired up or your favorite TED talks.
9. Look to the motivational people in your life
_Have successful parents/friends/professors that you’re super proud of? Let their stories inspire you. Or, look up other people’s success stories in your preferred field (especially those who had to overcome extreme obstacles to get there).
10. Have a satisfying conversation
_We’ve all experienced those long conversations that make us feel good afterward. Talk to a favorite professor, friend, or even a favorite studyblr (pick mee) about school, careers, and life in general.
11. Bribe yourself
_Sometimes we just need to promise ourselves a day of shopping, a cheat day, a day in bed watching movies, or whatever to keep us going ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
12. Socialize wisely
_As in, get together with classmates to study. Sometimes we need our feelings to be validated, so de-stress by ranting to each other about the homework and tests- and then help each other LEARN IT!
_If meeting up with people isn’t possible, look up “study with me” videos on YouTube. I thought this was kind of weird, but sometimes friends just can’t meet up and studying next to someone really helps me focus. Sometimes this is the next best thing, okay? 😂
13. Treat yourself
_…to a new notebook, set of pens, highlighters, sticky notes, etc. New notebooks especially motivate me because you can write just about anything in ‘em. They can become bujos, dream journals, diaries, grimoires, space for your studies, a place for your fiction drafts, whatever you want!
14. Scroll through studyblrs/grams
_Like the one you’re looking at now! :D hii
15. Create your own studyblr/gram
_I started this blog mostly to help myself, tbh. I mean, I hope this blog inspires you all, but I assure you I’m probably the one who needs the most organization in her life 😂. Having a studyblr means making time to create original posts, reblog, and becoming involved in the community. Its definitely helped me study because my notes are basically useful content for my blog.
16. Start a bullet journal
_Or buy a pretty planner if you’re not that creative or too much of a perfectionist to start right away. Seriously, it doesn’t have to be perfect. Even if you want to post pictures of your spreads on your blog, you have time to get a nice theme going. So just start it, regardless of how your handwriting or drawing skills are at the moment. It will ALL get better with time and practice.
17. Self-teach
_Sometimes we need to get out of the classroom and find the joy in learning about the world through our own experiences. Its why we played as children. I used to love learning new languages and how to play instruments on my own, so I make time for it in my busy schedule.
18. Volunteer
_…at a high school or elementary school. Being a mentor to younger students can remind you why you wanted to do what you’re doing now. It’s good for reflecting. You can also tutor students at school to get back in the academic zone.
19. Mental health is important
_Sometimes a lack of motivation can mean more than simple student stress. Take care of your mind and seek help if you need it.
20. Be grateful
_Remember that being a student is a huge privilege, so enjoy the heck out of it while you can!
hope these tips help! what keeps you motivated?

_ My supplies came in the mail today! I got lots of language texts, a book to read for fun (and fix my messy life), some notebooks, and a set of fine tip sharpies to start my new bujo. I’m probably going to use the notebooks to study song lyrics in my target languages. So excited to try everything out! _

50 things present-me would tell senior-in-high-school-me:
You’re gonna change your mind about your major.
Seriously, just pick Accounting.
At the very least, save yourself from playing credits catch-up later on by not taking just 4 classes one semester, and putting off most of the gen. ed requirements till your junior year kthanks
You don’t need to have a friend with you to go to school clubs. Would be nice to have them there, but they don’t want to make time for it and you do. So DO IT!
Don’t freak out too much about being involved either. You already saw in high school how doing so does nothing good for you.
You’re gonna go to therapy. Might as well do it now instead of waiting till the second semester.
If you want a gap year, take it. Doesn’t matter if all your other friends are doing college in the Fall, you’ll soon discover that they will all start going down different paths anyway.
You’re a commuter, so spend more time on campus!
Get your license before going!!
Follow up with people. Those girls from that sorority who reached out to you could’ve been some great networks/friends.
Re-discover your interests. Refresh your mind on Korean, start that blog, or just read for enjoyment again.
Go to the gym!!
Don’t eat all that junk food. You were doing so well with the diet change :’(
You will find your purpose and motivation among all this commotion. Don’t worry.
There will be many presentations. And you will do just fine.
Ditch that one annoying kid. No, he is not slightly awkward yet kind. He is a self-proclaimed “nice guy” who will creep you out multiple times before crossing the line.
Don’t even look in his direction during orientation.
Don’t be afraid to make friends with the international kids.
Sure, they hang out mostly among themselves… and it still intimidates a bit now… but just go for it! There are some cool people you’ll meet later on.
Study by yourself. Take up the invites to study with friends, but do most of it alone because the whole group method isn’t working so well.
Say hi to the people you sit next to on the first day.
Large gaps between classes actually suck. Have them closer together, except for lunch/dinner times.
You actually like having 3-4 classes in one day. It frees up most of the week for work, fun, or studying, and it feels good to be busy.
Put part of your paychecks in your savings, dammit.
Get close to your favorite professors.
Don’t fill out the FAFSA last minute.
Don’t feel bad about being waitlisted for your first choice. This one’s much better ;)
Most of your fears towards dorming and going out of state for college ended up not being true. It would still cost a lot of money though, but you would have definitely been “worth it.”
You can still grow as a person despite being a commuter.
Seriously. Plus, the people around you will remind you how jealous they are of the perks that come with it.
You are going to study abroad, and you’re gonna love every second of it.
You will get over your fear of needles! About time
Make time for dating and fun romance-y things.
You’re gonna face and overcome things you thought you never would. Be proud.
Travel by yourself. Don’t wait around for other people to tag along. You are ready, and its not that hard.
Do alll the extra credit.
Take that drawing class.
Don’t minor in Psychology.
Actually go ahead, those were some interesting and useful classes. Just don’t expect to stick with it. You won’t have space for all the requirements in your schedule.
Don’t be afraid to do things that interest you by yourself. Literally no one is watching you, or waiting to see you fail.
Attend some workshops.
Get that LinkedIn account set up.
You will have some rude and sarcastic professors. Just ride out the wave of cringe it occasionally sets upon the classroom.
Don’t walk to class with your phone stuck to your face. Admire your surroundings. ooh nature
Do important things face to face, like submitting a scholarship application. Sometimes technology just fails us. >:(
Online textbooks are the way to go.
You don’t need friends in every class, but you need someone to contact about homework when you miss a day.
Sometimes classes during holidays are necessary.
Studying doesn’t stop when you’re let out for breaks.
You can have good grades AND fun!
thanks for reading! What would you tell your young teenage-self?;
