the more i think about transgender issues, the less they make sense to me.

reading about it here from detrans and dysphoric women, i think of transgenderism as a mental illness. basically an individual experiences a feeling of disconnect/unease/anxiety toward their body in connection with society’s expectations/stereotypes (symptom), is diagnosed with gender dysphoria (illness) and tried to alleviate their suffering through transitioning (treatment). seems logical enough so far i guess.

but here’s what i don’t understand: when you are ill, your goal is to heal, to go back to normal. e.g. you have bronchitis. you take meds so you won’t be sick anymore. or you suffer from depression; you (hopefully) have people around you to confide in, you go to therapy, you are prescribed meds. eventually (hopefully again) you get better. youre ‘you’ again. perhaps you still go through some depressive episodes, but it doesn’t define you. after all, you wouldn’t introduce yourself or identify as a depressive person.

in the case of gender dysphoria, at what point do you get better? when are you healed? when do you go back to normal? when are you ‘you’ again? even after years of so-called treatment, you could still be suffering from gender dysphoria (and if random people on the internet rejecting or criticising your identity sends you in a violent rage, maybe your mental state isn’t very stable lmao). if you were to be denied surgery or couldn’t afford hormones anymore, your dysphoria would come back. and even with all the surgeries and hormones in the world, you’re still a trans woman/trans man. you never actually become the opposite sex. you never reach your ideal because it’s unattainable.

affirmative therapy/hormone therapy/srs doesn’t address the problem (dysphoria) at its source, it just puts bandaids over it. would you be truly ‘cured’ if you were acknowledged as your desired gender and treated as such? that would mean that you never really worked on your personal issues, you just demand that people play along and validate you. i feel that a genuinely appropriate treatment for dysphoria would seek to reconcile the individual with their body instead of medically altering it.

Men really do be thinking that everyone’s out to control them. It’s not manipulation, unless it’s forced, which is already highly unlikely.

Women have more prolactin due to (obviously) higher estrogen levels. Prolactin makes it hard to hold back tears when there’s an urge to cry. Sorry women aren’t “man enough” to not show their feelings. It’s physically so much harder to hold back tears than it is for men.

I would also like to note that women don’t “cry uncontrollably” in the way men think. It’s not random. It happens when she feels hurt, like a normal human being. It is “uncontrollable” in the way that, like I said, she has a harder time holding back tears.

If you make her cry, it’s your fault. Unless she’s thinking about a dead puppy, which I doubt since you’re screaming in her face.

Said meta analysis is bullshit because many of those “studies” are over 10 years old. Any researcher with their salt knows you can use data that ancient & flawed.

You absolutely can use studies that are 10 years or older if there’s no more recent, better designed studies that disprove the findings. Can you find any that do? Neuroscientists still use the work from Hubel and Weisel which is over 50 years old because their findings are still valid.

The fact that the study is 10 years old is probably doing porn advocates a favour; I can only imagine how much more damning a recent study would be as porn has only gotten more available, accessible and extreme.

They can’t do more recent studies because it’s difficult to find a sample of people who haven’t watched at least some porn to have a true negative control

Also it’s hard to get it past an IRB because of the documented bad effects of it— it’s now seen as unethical to ask a study participant to watch porn due to risks. This means that you can only run observational trials now not experimental ones, and the results of observational trials (esp with self reporting) are kinda shit.
