Happy New Year! Taking a break, but not leaving.

As we begin a new year and a new decade (I know that technically we’re still in the old one), I have decided that I need to focus on other things. I’m not leaving, but I am going to take a hiatus to recharge. At almost 400k followers, this blog has taken off way more than I anticipated. I started this blog back in August, originally for the purpose of being able to reblog the content that I had long put in Queue+ for my main blog (UrbaneTide) that was being automatically hidden when it posted…and as a middle finger Tumblr’s stupid NSFW rule change that was limiting my main blog. Porn Recovery was originally meant to be a sneaky work-around to still get what I wanted on my main blog, despite the restrictions. For like the first month or so, I attracted maybe a few hundred followers. Not many. Then I go away for about two weeks and when I came back, it had leaped to 40k followers, despite nothing new being posted in those two weeks. Somebody with a ton of followers obviously reblogged something I posted and from there it became a freight train. When I saw that the popularity surging, I became preoccupied with keeping it going for the followers and trying to stay ahead of Tumblr’s flaggings, which became more and more difficult because Tumblr has become more aware of the tricks to get over and has recalibrated their algorithm to catch things. I really don’t think this blog is anything special. Most of it is hidden content from other blogs. I think the reason it exploded is simply because there’s still a huge audience left on here that WANTS the occasional adult content. But rather than allowing the audience to have what it is telling them that they want, they insist on hindering. Sad. So now I’m gonna go ahead an answer the #1 question I get asked about in private messages: How am I able to post without being flagged. The truth is that my uploads get flagged all the time. While I’m usually able to derail it from automatically happening, about 50% of the time the flags will ultimately come within a day or so.  So this is my work around… Upload something safe (like a generic wallpaper image) to your queue. Let it sit in there for approximately 3-5 days untouched…THEN replace that image with whatever adult content you want to post. This usually throws off Tumblr’s algorithm that is set to automatically catch NSFW imagery.  Again, it’s only a temporary derailment. Tumblr tends to catch on later and eventually hides/flags. When that happens, reblog whatever was hidden to another blog (but don’t reblog it from yourself…look at the notes and reblog it from someone else) and then reblog it back to your main blog. Viola. It’s not a perfect solution, but as of now it tentatively works. By the time I return, if this blog hasn’t been deleted, I expect Tumblr will have advanced their mechanisms to catch NSFW even more.  If that happens, so be it. It’s a new year. Time to move forward with new things. In the meantime, know that I appreciate everyone who appreciates this blog. Been on Tumblr since 2012 and never had a blog w/ this many followers. Be well folks! Happy New Year and here’s to hopefully a great new decade! Oh, and if the restrictions here become too tiresome to deal with, I recommend newTumbl. While it doesn’t have as big an audience as Tumblr, it’s set up pretty much the same way and they freely allow you to express and indulge in NSFW content.
