rewatching Love Between Fairy and Devil and I think it really works that if you're going to have the male lead be in the dark dangerous alpha fuck prince model to have his love interest just be like a useless tamagachi (affectionate) that who is one missed feeding away from dying at any given moment.

I appreciate the writers figuring out that the power differential between THE MOON SUPREME and anyone is going to be so uncomfortably large even if the female lead eventually gets the power up that they're like what if she's a sad therapy plant that he has to water for most of the show until he gets sunk cost fallacy into becoming a plant dad? Flawless concept.

going to say what i almost always say when there's a wang churan drama on air — very few directors understand how to get a good performance out of her, and this director isn't one of them. which is, once again, a crying shame.

Was practicing drawing people with faces and used Zhang Ruonan as the model and then ended up making this Wen Yifan bio scrapbook thing! There's her photo, the couple bracelet Sang Yan version, Dian dian's polaroid photo, a receipt from Beiyu Nostalgic Noodle (I just made this all up lol especially the price), ballet shoes, Sang Yan's hand drawn butterfly temporary tattoo, her work ID, and snow flake stickers.

literal life or death stakes for her and 1) she doesn't care, and 2) he's cheesing lol. love that he doesn't even try to pretend he can go through with anything he threatens her with, and she's already given up on pretending she feels nothing for him. underneath all the soapy silliness and bluster, they're actually quite adorable.

it's even trashier than i thought it would be, which is simply the bomb dot com!!!!!!! they've got the mini vibes down pat and everyone is hamming it up — which is probably a good thing for zlh; grounding a character in a melodramatic world is still somewhat beyond his skillset, and he does well with ott fun/mischievous/scheming roles (i say as a ardent enjoyer of his 3 seasons on the truth). and my god does his face more than make up for any shortcomings! just look at this man!

fellow cnovel readers, if you're looking for a somewhat underrated gǔ yán + shuǎng wén read, please allow me to recommend Zuì Qióng Zhī by Kuáng Shàng Jiā Kuáng:

it's so good! i LOVE the mains individually, and their romance is adorable (the ml has an actual personality and layers, unusually for this genre). the fl is maybe in my top 10 of all time? overall it's a very pleasant, very charming read with a dash of all the elements you'd see in a novel of this genre, all well-balanced.

this is the same author who wrote Yún Bìn Tiān Xiāng, another favorite of mine! a big part of why i love both is because the translation quality is EXCELLENT; on par with or better than that of A Small Restaurant in Chang'an.
