What is the hardest megadrawing you have worked on so far?
god this sketch is so cursed lmao
Anyway *rubs my hands like a fly* I always get excited about megadrawing asks >:D
It’s a fascinating question, bc there are different levels of complexity
Each one was challenging in it’s own way
The hardest one was probably the very first one - A ton of bears
two main reasons: first time doing a project like this + improvising character designs
Genuinely very challenging to improvise characters from scratch (even tho characters have the same base), it essentially doubles the amount of work on the drawing
I think I spent like 2 weeks doing lineart alone, add same time on colouring
Character count: honestly no idea, might actually have the most characters
Tsp gala was quite challenging for the same reason
Took a bunch of planning, had a lot of characters + my initial trial and error with the whole process
Tho in comparison actually not the most challenging I would say
Character count: I think it was 129
Tsp gala and Tsp beach chain have the same problem/challange actually - the paper format
Gala is A3, Beach is A4 - was easy to scan as a plus, but oh god did it mess up the faces and overall details
You can clearly see it in comparison to my more recent work ⬇️
Paper format is a double edged sword tbh, on one hand smaller format allows for faster result (you will not get fatigue from working on the drawing for too long); but on other hand, details are harder to “fit in” which leads to major visual simplification
(Gala looks better on paper as lineart actually, scanning did a lil damage I would say)
HIVE megadrawing confidently holds the second place
It would be the first, however, I feel like at that point at time I gathered enough knowledge/confidence to push myself further (was actively looking for a challenge)
This one has it all: a whole crewmate investigation to figure out the planning, area improvisation, the biggest format so far (A2), nightmare of a scanning, my art program glitching during rendering, new people joining HIVE and me stubbornly adding them in
Genuinely proud of this work, the process was the whole adventure
I believe it took the most amount of time about 3 months; character count: 73
Honorary mention Narratorverse March
Was drawn on two separate A3s and edited together digitally, thing was a tad easier and faster to create because of the chibi artstyle
Took about a month, character count: 73 as well lmao
Looking at those together, I actually kinda realise that my megadrawings got better not because I improved my art skills, but rather because I gained confidence in the process itself
What size and type of format to choose, understood which parts to plan out/which could be improvised, experimented with scanning
Got a lil more experienced :>
Also fun fact: TSP x Undertale was the easiest
I think I did it in 4 days total? Lineart + rendering I mean
The area planning and colouring was easy to figure out, since I had Undertale backgrounds as refs
🥇First place - A ton of Bears
🥈Second place - HIVE and Narratorverse March
🥉Third place - Gala and Beach chain
Middle ground are STP princesses, TSP ice cream and other semi megadrawings
The easiest - TSP x Undertale
Thank you for your question 🐻❄️❤️
Really appreciate you guys taking interest in my work 🥹💕
Was lots of fun doing a sort of introspection on my megadrawings so far :D
