Why I wake up and workout.
1.Natural light - There’s nothing like a blast of sunlight to get the brain and body energised. Granted, it is a ‘rude awakening’ and upon emerging from my pit it takes a certain amount to will power to avoid doing a 180 but, soaking up the sun’s rays increase my serotonin levels making me more alert, active and positive.
2. Metabolism - After a short blast of exercise in the morning I can feel my body torching calories for the rest of the day thanks to the metabolic boost.
3. Muscle Up - I like to combine strength training with some High Intensity Interval Cardio. Not only is this type of workout more engaging and fun, but by adding strength training to my routine I build more calorie-burning muscle.
4. ReFuel - What works for one person does not necessarily work for another. So once i’ve razzed my mind, metabolism and body up for the day, I listen to my appetite. A short blast of exercise can often settle the ravenous hunger often triggered by boredom, so you’ll be refuelling what your body needs, not what the mind wants.
Less is more. COULBOURNE.
Healthy Hair? Not the easiest task for the surf chick.
Hi beach babes! I wanted to share a couple of products that I am truly blown away by. My hair has always been a bit of adisaster. I have A LOT of fine hair so it looks thick, but it's not –disappointment number one. Having started life with The ultimate head of beach waves worthy of Glamour magazine, I fell in love with watersports, it got damaged by the sun and salt water, the shorter layers turned to candy floss like dreads and the longer lengths poker straight – disappointment number two. And finally, as a young teenager I quickly joined the highlight brigade to brighten my dull brown hair. Unfortunately the sun, surf and salt water turned my years of 'lifting' into straw like locks, disastrous spilt ends and my hair seemed to get shorter rather than longer as I'd always wished for...could I get it to reach my nipples? Could I hell! – disappointment number three.
I've tried every product under the sun – and of all price tags - in hope that it would be the magic potion to return my hair to its original state, or at least improve it! But I was always unsatisfied as anything I tried would either be too heavy, too light, greasy or tangle my hair more. So i'd resigned myself to long but not long enough hair, that was always in questionable condition, and of which my father has always said “will you brush your hair!?!” The cheek! I had, 2 minutes ago!!
One year ago, I changed my hair routine which has had an awesome effect and has saved me money! I still remain forever frolicking in the sunshine, hours in the salt water and day's being windswept.
What's changed is that I sacked my very expensive but totally wonderful nonetheless hairdresser, and replaced him with a cheery girl who nips just the ends off every 5 weeks for under £10. Yes, you heard me, every 5 weeks! It's really not a hairdressing ploy to get more money off you, it's the truth. She recommended using the light DGJ Organics Honeydewmelon shampoo - (£5.99 )which I adore, to skip the conditioner and instead use Wella Oil Reflections (£10.99) that she rated highly. I have to admit, I was dubious at first as my past experience with oils had left my hair nothing short of gross, but I was over the moon upon trying the recommended products and routine. Another nugget of info she shared with me is to not brush your hair when wet as it stretches and breaks easily, but to use your fingers to work the oil through and brush, only once dry – if you want. The result? Well, last month I was in Cape Town with old friend and fellow beach babe, who could not believe her eyes when she saw the difference not only in the condition of my locks, but the length and volume. Bingo!!
I'm amazed with these products and how they work in combination. They are really affordable and both smell divine, and very, very beachy. I haven’t dyed my hair in years and stick to having a trim as close to 5 weeks as I can. I hardly ever use my hair brush, come to think of it i'm not sure whether I even have one. Oh yes! and the final rule is to never pull your hair tie out, but rather unravel the hair
Here's the proof in a rather dodgy selfie - well I thought I had to show you the results. Shampooed, towel dried, oil added, a loose comb through with my fingers and left to dry naturally.
Here we go with the #3 instalment of the Be Beach Fit workout.
Inspired by watersports and beach life, Be Beach Fit is a series of short workouts that you can do anywhere, aimed at two things. 1. To enhance strength, endurance and agility for your surfing, kiteboarding, wakeboarding and/or SUP performance 2. To achieve a healthy strong, lean beach body.

HOW 2's: - Deep squat pulses for 15 secs * Keep chest lifted, butt back and down, make sure knees are pointing straight and are not over the knee - Drop down into plank position and with each push raise one leg up using butt. Be Beach Fit 1 min workout for watersports and beach bodies.
OK!! So here we go...
Over a year ago I switched up my way of training due to a hectic travel schedule. I realised that I needed to find a way to workout on the road and although I do love a good old fashion gym session, these high intensity, short bursts of maximum output, big functional exercises have worked wonders for the watersports I love to do, for injury prevention and me, personally.
I do a lot of watersports; kiteboarding, surfing, wakeboarding, windsurfing and SUP, so i'm fully aware of the fitness progression needed for strength, flexibility, agility and injury prevention. Training in this specific way will evolve your fitness and prepare your body and muscles around your joints for the impact and awkward movements often necessary to ride.
For those looking to get into any watersport, these exercises will prepare you, your core and muscles perfectly to learn new sports and help you succeed in your mission.
In addition to this, if you are a seasoned pro, for the periods of time that you're not able to get on the water, these workouts will keep you on top of your game, so you'll no longer spend the first four days in agony whilst your muscles find their flow again.
Other than the sport specific performance benefits, I have seen my body change shape in a positive way and even though I weigh the same, I'm much smaller than i've ever been.
I hope you enjoy the first 1 minute workout of the Be Beach Fit series. The aim is to enhance your strength, endurance and agility for your surfing, kiteboarding, wake boarding windsurfing or SUP performance. And to achieve a healthy strong, lean beach body. All exercises require your core to be engaged constantly so get ready for your waistline to change!
Whether you're new to this type of high intensity training or a fitness fanatic, these workout combos are ideal for all levels of fitness. It all comes down to how hard are you willing to push yourself

Stay Be Beach beautiful over Christmas.
Has anyone else noticed that in the lead up to Christmas, magazines seem to ditch the health and fitness tips for which party dress to buy and cocktails to drink? Come January, this is replaced with an abundance of information regarding punishing cleanses, detoxing and revamping your bikini body after Christmas. But what if you had some easy and effective tips to keep in mind during the festivities, that could help you avoid ruthless self hating, pinching of inches, personality changing starvations and obscene workouts in order to slide into your skinny jeans mid Jan.
I'm back in the UK with my family for two weeks where there will be mountains of mince pies, daily drinks parties, cocktails and canapés,not to mention lot's of delicious red wine to accompany the indulgent meals cooked by my loving Mother. Oh, and the nail in the coffin is that the local gym will be shut!!
On the 9th of January, I'm off to Cape Town where I will be hitting the beach in my bikini and that means that I need to be happy in my skin to don a skimpy two piece. So what's the trick, and how am I going to enjoy Christmas, indulge, avoid panic as we sit down to yet another meal and not punish myself with that regular 'I wish I hadn't eaten that' feeling?
If you're interested to know what my regular diet is then here it is. I make healthy choices and don't eat any foods I can't pronounce or have to take a out a mortgage to afford; think Amaranth, Chia, and Acai. Yes, I'm sure they are amazing for you, but I believe that Kale, Spinach, Broccoli, Brown Rice and Chicken is a good place to start. However, I'm not so stubborn that I won't take inspiration from health foodies that I can relate to. A great example is Deliciously Ella, who focuses on whole plant-based food and gives easy ways to make the healthy version of guilty pleasures.
So, here are my tips for enjoying Christmas like a normal person and still Be Beach ready.
Love your Liver: If like me you enjoy getting stuck in to an alcoholic beverage, then make sure you do your damage control. The liver is the most important organ for the metabolism and detoxification, so always take care of your system. Kick start your day with 500 ml of hot water and lemon and if you want something more, then a detoxifying juice will send you off in the right direction. Try: 2 beetroots, thumbnail of ginger, 1 lemon, a handful of coriander and 1 red apple.
Don't accessorise your food...too much. It's all too easy on any day of the week to pile up your plate with unnecessary calories, not to mention in the run up to Christmas. Go easy when adding sauces, creams, nuts, cheese and butter to your meals. Quite frankly none of the above add as much flavour to the meal as they do to your waist line, so just be aware.
Be a food snob. If you don't love it, don't eat it!! The classic 'some of this, a bit of that and a slice of that' can pile up, leave you feeling like the stuffed turkey! Only eat what you've been waiting all year to eat, or choose one thing per meal to have a little nibble on.
Get up and get out. It may be freezing, raining, let's be realistic you may even be over the driving limit after lunch, but get off your derriere and get out. Walk, jog, hell find a hill it really doesn't matter but the simple fact is, to loose weight you have to burn more than you're eating. But who wants to be doing that during December? By simply getting out for 40 mins to an hour of a brisk anything, could at least see you maintaining your current weight rather than sitting about and letting the pounds creep up. Or try a Be Beach Fit workout! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNWz3uH5D20
Chew gum...subtly. It may not be the most attractive thing, but it certainly does the trick! Cooking whilst chewing will keep you from picking. Also, chewing gum after food produces stomach to aid digestion.
Eat the following foods in abundance Fill your plate with broccoli, sprouts, cabbage, asparagus, artichoke, kale and garlic. They all help to keep your body free of toxins, free radicals and other nasty things. By having a balance of fresh veg, and the naughty but oh so yummy festive delights, you'll reap the benefits of a healthier, happier body.
So there you have it. Some simple tips so avoid expanding waistlines and sluggish systems over the festive period. Of course, don't forget to drink lots of water, get some rest, dry brush your skin, exfoliate and lavish your skin with delicious moisturisers. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] for more exercise and nutrition tips and tricks.

Beauty and botany. A night with Liz Earle.
The beauty of botany comes from the power of plants. For thousands of years, we've been using them for medicinal, health and beauty purposes proven to bring a wide variety of benefits to the mind, body and soul. Now, with beauty having a more natural approach, delicious essential oils are being integrated into products to enhance the appearance and care for your skin.
A few days ago, I went to the Ventnor Botanic Gardens where Liz Earle and the director of the gardens announced their partnership. Ethobotanist and TV presenter James Wong, referred to the Botanic Gardens as 'one of the best in the world, due to it's tropical micro-climate,' and who would have thought that this tropical place was on the Isle of Wight, UK!?
Exciting times ahead for the island based beauty brand who've teamed up with botanical enthusiasts. As a Liz Earle fan myself, I look forward to what this collaboration brings to the world of beauty.
