I thought planning fanfiction was my hobby, but I'm starting to suspect my hobby is actually making lists for fanfiction ideas.

Recent lists that aren't on tumblr include a list of potion ingredients from Harry Potter/The Rigel Black Chronicles that might work as character names, a list of Ominously Named Plants, a list of weird/creepy pub names, and a list of spooky place names.

The latter two are because I've decided I need somewhere to boot the class to for at least one night.

The pub name was almost Nag's Head, but then that evolved in such a way I now have backstory for why Felix, (in the Romance in the Culpa Mansion prequel), referred to Lukasz and Julka as the children of 'the valiant Captain Couffray'.

The backstory shall still exist- I might put it in a sidestory- but I'm trying to keep my tangents at least vaguely plot relevant.

Nags Head is a pub name (and a place name) referencing the folklore of wreckers using nags (mules/horses) and lanterns to fool ships into thinking they were further from the ocean than they were, wrecking, and the wreckers would take the goods.

A little update <3

I still read all of your lovely replies! I have not given up on art my friends! I have even started my own webcomic on webtoon! It’s called Seth In Space and it would mean a lot to me if you would support me there! Love you all and happy halloween!!

I’m so happy to tell you all that I’ve made great progress with my mental health!! To genuinely be able to say that I feel happy is so liberating and free! I know a lot of you are still in that dark place. I’m here to say that it does get better. Much better! I still have some tough days but progress is progress! Be kind and gentle to yourselves. My favorite thing to do is get so invested in a fic that I follow the writer on their other platforms. I get to see the progress updates, sure. But nothing will top the joy of see that they like that other thing too. And even if they drift from a fandom, seeing them thrive in what they enjoy always makes me smile.

Jo might not like the cauldron taking up most of the kitchen but it sure makes it easy to whip up mac ‘n cheese. While Tera might not be able to eat Jo’s cooking, she sure loves the smell. Glad to know that someone will be able to cook once she finally has a little monster of her own, and that her friends are there to help. It takes a Village after all. Boosting cause I am still very proud of this one.

I find it fascinating that people who choose not to have children are generally assumed to feel really strongly about not having children (or even to feel really strongly against children, anyone’s children, in general). I am probably not going to have children, not because I REALLY REALLY HATE the idea of having children, but because I don’t really really love it. Out of all the major decisions I will make in my life, this one is the only irreversible one. I can sell a house, quit a job, divorce a spouse, whatever. I cannot unhave a child. I cannot opt out of being a parent once I become a parent. I can’t even take a step back for the sake of self-care or whatever, or else my child will suffer.

So for me, having children is fuck yes or not at all. The default will be to remain childfree. Having children should be an opt-in decision, not an opt-out one. Until/unless I develop really strong feelings about wanting to have children, I won’t have them, even if that means I never end up having them at all.

Ten questions to ask a friend who just read your novel

Here are ten questions to ask that will not put your friend in a tough spot, but will still give you some useful input on your novel:

1. At what point did you feel like “Ah, now the story has really begun!”  2. What were the points where you found yourself skimming?  3. Which setting in the book was clearest to you as you were reading it? Which do you remember the best?  4. Which character would you most like to meet and get to know?  5. What was the most suspenseful moment in the book?  6. If you had to pick one character to get rid of, who would you axe?  7. Was there a situation in the novel that reminded you of something in your own life?  8. Where did you stop reading, the first time you cracked open the manuscript? (Can show you where your first dull part is, and help you fix your pacing.)  9. What was the last book you read, before this? And what did you think of it? (This can put their comments in context in surprising ways, when you find out what their general interests are. It might surprise you.)  10. Finish this sentence: “I kept reading because…”

Your friend is probably still going to tell you, “It was good!” However, if you can ask any specific questions, and read between the lines, you can still get some helpful information out of even the most well-meaning reader.

It does a great job of asking for a balance of both positive and negative feedback in a way that’s comfortable for both the author and reader.
