"i.. need to sit down for a bit.."
"god, you’re burning up… have you been feeling sick all day?"
"i.. think so.."

a character fainting in the middle of being lectured by their captain for something they did wrong, both worrying them and explaining why they'd made the mistake in the first place, is soooooo good
extremely good trope: injured character sees their own blood on someone else who's otherwise unscathed and gives a concerned "are you hurt?" double points if they're so injured they're barely lucid
Oh I have MANY overworking prompts from my own real-life experience, buckle in.
1. Shaking hands means you’ve dropped something. Congratulations: now you’re covered in hot coffee, or you’ve dropped something heavy on your foot and hurt yourself, or that pitcher of syrup you were putting on a shelf is now all in your hair. No, you can’t go home to address the problem: you can’t afford to take the time off to do that. Deal with it all day.
2. Just got some bad news? Too bad, you can’t afford to take the time off work to deal with it. It’s time to cry on the clock: in the break room if you’re lucky, out on the floor if you’re not. Hard to tell if it’s worse when somebody notices, or if nobody does.
3. Oops! You’re so exhausted you got irrationally angry about something and blew tf up at one of your coworkers, or a customer. Can you make it through the reprimand without A. Crying B. Blowing up again C. Losing your job? (Pro tip: try biting the inside of your mouth until it bleeds! Nobody sees it, and the pain might let you keep up appearances until this is over)
4. Emotions get weird when you haven’t had a day off in months. Someone asks how you are - when’s the last time that happened? Your options are laugh hysterically or start sobbing.
5. Did you know this kind of exhaustion can cause hallucinations? Catch whumpee turning their head like “on it” responding to a boss’s voice - only to find nobody there.
6. A classic: you’re sick. Can’t take the time off work to rest and heal, can’t afford the medical bill anyway. That chest infection is just going to have to go away on its own.
7. You’re working a double, and everything hurts: your feet, your back, your head. You’ve pulled a muscle in your shoulder lifting heavy things. You can’t leave for another few hours, and you have another shift just like this tomorrow. There’s no ibuprofen in the break room.
8. It’s amazingly easy to loose time doing a repetitive job. Hm? What? What do you mean I did/said/responded to that? I don’t remember it.
9. Falling asleep for naps wherever and whenever you can is sometimes the only way you’re getting any rest at all. In the back room. In your car. Does anybody notice?
10. And when you get home at the end of the day? You’re completely spent. You don’t remember what it feels like to be a person. You just fall into bed and rot there until it’s time for your next shift.
Signed: someone who once worked for three months straight without time off, for between 8 and 12 hours each day.
ough i'm so sorry that happened to you but thank you for sharing the whump fodder!!
Surprisingly common situation, not so often seen in lady whump. You know the one, chronic overachiever keeps taking the load from her friends until is too much, exhaustion dragging her down even when she stills pushes herself. Caretaker knows very damn well she won't be talked down from it. So they just wait for the inevitable collapse, arms ready to catch her when she comes tumbling down

and i'm going to add: she's trying to prove herself to a group that literally already believes in her. her entire inferiority complex is in her head. her teammates think she's the greatest most impressive person in the world, and she's killing herself trying to reassure them that she's good enough to be on their team (or even better, their leader!!)
