Every couple days I think about how fucked up it is that Bellamy and Clarke's whole shtick was that they were better together, two parts of a whole (the heart and the head), that they couldn't and didn't want to live without each other, that they always found their way back to each other, that in such a fucked up world where they had taken the burden of humanity on their shoulders they realized again and again how much better and lighter life was when they shared the burden together, but we're supposed to think they were just friends? Did "together" mean nothing to you??? Yes bro, you're my whole world and my reason to live and your arms are my only safe haven, bro???
to the people who are rewatching the 100…… y’all are so much stronger than me bc it’s been 3 years and i still cannot bring myself to watch it again knowing how it ends
so, I don't know if you remember but one or two seasons ago we happened to talk a lot about bellarke and I swallowed your meta posts the moment you've published them. in light of all this... how are you feeling? I'm at loss for words but have already moved on, weirdly enough. just sad how bellarke ended up in the air
I’m, uh. Honestly, what gets me is how simple it would’ve been to salvage this season right up until the last scene of 7x13.
I had this discussion with @talistheintrovert around the halfway point about how the beginning of the season wasn’t the strongest, but it could be pulled around if they tied it up well at the end. And instead, they put the nail in the coffin of the characterization of both of their leads.
It makes absolutely no sense, and I’m still kind of reeling from it.
And just to prove that I’m not talking out of my ass, allow me to demonstrate a small sample of very simple changes that could’ve occurred without needing to change the rest of the plot at all (taking into consideration that I have yet to personally watch 7x14-7x16):
Levitt is present for Clarke’s M-Cap session and, having seen Octavia’s memories, suggests that Bellamy be the one to ease her into it, or
Levitt is the M-Cap tech for Clarke’s session and asks the question about the vast desert and the hand reaching out. She thinks of Bellamy, and her memories are accessed almost immediately.
Bellamy, upon seeing himself from Clarke’s perspective and witnessing for himself just how much she truly cares, begins the process of breaking out of his quasi-brainwashing.
Cadogan & Co. see the flame being buried and insist that Clarke escort them to Sanctum, knowing that her presence would be a stabilizing factor.
There is not another eclipse like a week after the first one, but the Anomaly being forced to a different location by Cadogan & Co.’s arrival and Sheidheda’s movement of the Anomaly Stone sets off the Red Sun effect.
Instead of letting Clarke go off to the farmhouse alone, Bellamy insists on going with her. Cadogan agrees, because he doesn’t trust her even if he is holding her friends hostage.
Bellamy and Clarke do not find antitoxin, but their “demons” have changed from the last time.
Instead of worrying that she’s the danger to the people she loves, Clarke is worried about all the other dangers, and not losing anyone else. As a result, the Red Sun makes her put herself in dangerous situations to protect Bellamy.
Instead of being worried about protecting everyone, Bellamy is concerned with protecting Clarke. As a result, the Red Sun makes him aggressive to everyone but her.
Awakening from the Red Sun delirium is the final push to break Bellamy’s quasi-brainwashing.
Bellamy pretends to still be loyal to Cadogan in order to retrieve Madi’s sketchbook. Clarke is not fully aware of Bellamy’s current loyalties, and holds a gun on him when she sees him take it.
Bellamy communicates to Clarke, carefully, that he’s still with her. Clarke trusts Bellamy and plays along. They both escape through the Anomaly, with the fucking sketchbook.
See how easy that was? And I’m not a room of professional screenwriters. Absolutely ridiculous.
I can’t believe how easily we could’ve gotten, “Actually, those glowing figures are manifestations of the people you care about most caused by [fun anomaly effect on the brain as we’ve already fucking established can happen in canon]. The closest you can get to ‘transcendence’ is caring about your fellow man and dedicating yourself to the people you love. The moral of this season is that people are easily manipulated by charismatic dictators, so we need to be critical of the messages we consume for the good of everyone.”
If other universes exist I hope we’re happy somewhere. That there are universes where history doesn’t pull us apart and we become a tragic story full of sorrow and regret, ones where we don’t become our own undoing that only history would remember us for. I know in this story we could never belong to each other, but if there is another universe, another story, another us I hope we can love each other until our dying day.
— history became cruel to star-crossed lovers, they could never end up happy | our violent ends. //t.c
The Head and the Heart? Destroyed each other. Not the centre of the show anymore.
Maybe life is about more than just surviving? Nup. We’re literally just going to survive as glowsticks for eternity and no LIVING will ever get done.
The survival of the human race? No children will ever be had. The species is dead and glowsticks.
Be the good guys? Not really. They were killing each other right until the final moments and Clarke and Echo and Bellamy and Indra were all committing betrayals and atrocities all through the final season.
Love ISN’T weakness? The final war wasn’t stopped by love, it was just Octavia pointing out they wouldn’t transcend if they killed each other. Love is still what got Cadogan killed and why Clarke failed the test.
you know what would have made more sense and been a good ending? If Bellamy had survived and he watches his family and friends transend but then before he does himself he sees Clarke fails so he makes the decision to stay behind with her. It would have been a beautiful parallel to praimfaya, instead of Clarke being left alone she had her bestfriend by her side this time round. Then their family come back for them. For once someone goes back for the two who have sacrificed so much for everyone else.
