Please remember that "land back" does not mean "indigenous people are mystical elves with innate epigenetic wisdom of land stewardship and they don't belong in big cities," nor does it mean "non-indigenous people can't be farmers." What it DOES mean is that "non-indigenous farmers should be paying the equivalent of property taxes to the native governments their land was stolen from." It means, "there's a great deal of indigenous scholarship on sustainable agricultural practices that farmers should be taking into account, because indigenous agriculture was more advanced than European agriculture at the time Europe invaded the Americas and western agriculture *still* hasn't caught up in terms of figuring out how to produce equivalently high crop yields without compromising the ecosystem." It means, "non-indigenous farmers should be in an intellectual discourse with indigenous agricultural scientists and indigenous peoples that still do traditional farming, figuring how to repair the damage western farming practices have done to the ecosystem."

It also means that indigenous peoples should regain the right to sustain themselves on the land according to the practices they want, and they should have free reign to perform their cultural practices and protect their holy sites, as opposed to the current model where if they try to honor their dead on public lands they get violently removed.

People also get angry at this concept thinking it'd mean non-native people getting mass evicted from their homes but 1) your home is already owned by a bank or big business or government, the difference would mainly be who you're now paying rent to and 2) most of the land in America isn't residential anyway.

This topic isn't about your house that you're already struggling to pay for, it's about thousands of miles of the planet rotting away under the monopoly of big agriculture and oil, but hypothetically speaking I think a local tribe would treat you a shitload better than whatever inhuman real estate brand you're already at the mercy of.

Something fascinating is that Carmilla turning Laura into a vampire takes its sweet time and has different effects than her normal vampire biting...

Three weeks of draining Laura (since the black cat dream) and of very sensual death dreams. Contrast to biting her village victims once and letting them die. ("It could not be that terrible complaint which the peasants called the oupire, for I had now been suffering for three weeks, and they were seldom ill for much more than three days, when death put an end to their miseries.").

Coupled with:

"Carmilla became more devoted to me than ever, and her strange paroxysms of languid adoration more frequent. She used to gloat* on me with increasing ardor the more my strength and spirits waned. This always shocked me like a momentary glare of insanity."

Carmilla & Laura - [ Book Cover ]

I am so incredibly proud to finally reveal my cover design for the Deluxe Hardcover edition of Carmilla & Laura, the classic lesbian vampire novella retelling by bestselling author SD Simper!

First, and most importantly, please make sure you sign up to be notified when the project launches (even if you don't plan to pledge) as all interest/sharing will help a great deal: Kickstarter Page 

Secondly, I'm honestly so excited to be part of this project. I've always wanted to design book covers - or book art in general - and to see my work finally make it to people's shelves will definitely be one of my life's highlights.

I worked incredibly hard on this piece (which will extend to the full dustjacket in the hardcover edition) - from the characters, whose faces and tones were a huge challenge to align in a way that felt right, to well... the flowers. Of course it had to have flowers. Nobody even asked for the flowers - it just had to have flowers.

Someone save me from myself.

The kickstarter will feature several tiers with many bonus add-ons - one of which will be limited edition prints of the cover art hand-signed by yours truly - as well as art by other wonderful artists and annotated copies by the author, so please make sure that you come back for the launch and consider supporting the project and/or telling everyone you know about it.
